An Analytical Study for the Strength of the High Tension Bolted Joints in Plate Girder (Plate Girder 볼트 이음부 강도에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • In this study, structural behavior of high tension bolted connections was analyzed in order to investigate effective utilizations. Also, the simplified numerical analysis method showing bolt behavior was proposed using the connector element in the ABAQUS, a nonlinear finite element program and verified by numerical analyses on the basis of the experiment of previous study. In an effort to analyze strength properties of plate girder which high tension bolts are applied to, the effects of each design parameter were compared and analyzed after moment-displacement relations were investigated according to design parameters (upper flange, lower flange, upper and lower flange, web) by action force standards.

Compression and Shear Capacity of Rubber Bearings with Various Geometric Parameters (다양한 기하학적 인자를 고려한 고무받침의 압축 및 전단 내력)

  • In this study, compression and shear characteristics of laminated rubber bearings and lead rubber bearings with various parameters are investigated by using material and geometric nonlinear three-dimensional finite element analysis. Rubber coupon tests are performed to make a model of the laminated rubber bearings. In addition, the material constants of the rubber are calculated by the curve fitting process of stress-strain relationship. The finite element analysis and experimental tests of the laminate rubber bearings are used to verify the validity of the rubber material constants. It is seen that the compression behavior of the laminated rubber bearings and lead rubber bearings mainly varies depending on the first shape factors and their shear behavior significantly varies depending on the second shape factors. In addition, the horizontal stiffness and energy dissipation capacity of lead rubber bearing are increased when the diameter of a lead bar is increased.

Implementation of a DSP Based Fuel Cell Hardware Simulator (DSP기반 연료전지 하드웨어 시뮬레이터 구현)

  • Fuel cell generators as the distributed generation system with a few hundred watt$\sim$a few hundred kilowatt capacity, can supply the high quality electric power to user as compared with conventional large scale power plants. In this paper, PEMFC(polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell) generator as micro-source is modelled by using PSIM simulation software and DSP based fuel cell hardware simulator based on the PSIM simulation model is implemented. The relation of fuel cell voltage and current(V-I curve) is linearized by first order function on the ohmic area in voltage-current curve of fuel cell. The implemented system is composed of a PEMFC hardware simulator, an isolated full bridge dc boost converter, and a 60[Hz] voltage source PWM inverter. The voltage-current-power(V-I-P) characteristics of the implemented fuel cell hardware simulator are verified in load variation and transient state and the 60[Hz] output voltage sinusoidal waveform of the PWM inverter is investigated under the resistance load and nonlinear diode load.

Characteristics of System Performance in Optical Transmission Links with the Randomly Distributed RDPS (랜덤하게 분포하는 RDPS의 분산 제어 광전송 링크에서의 시스템 성능 특성)

  • Optical phase conjugation combining with dispersion management (DM) is promising technique to compensate for signal distortion due to group velocity dispersion (GVD) and nonlinear Kerr effects in optical communication systems. However the fixed residual dispersion per span (RDPS) usually used in the optical links with OPC and DM restricts the flexible link configuration. In this paper, OPC links combining DM of the randomly distributed RDPS is proposed for implementing the flexible optical transmission network. It is confirmed that the excellent compensation in the optical links with the randomly distributed RDPS is obtained, limiting the launch power of WDM channels to the relatively low. It is also confirmed that the relatively high launch power WDM channels are effectively transmitted through the optical links with the randomly distributed RDPS of averaged 50 - 100 ps/nm.

A Period Assignment Algorithm for Real-Time System Design (실시간 시스템 설계를 위한 주기 할당 알고리즘)

  • Digital controllers found in many industrial real-time systems consist of a number of interacting periodic tasks. To sustain the required control quality, these tasks possess the maximum activation periods as performance constraints. An essential step in developing a real-time system is thus to assign each of these tasks a constant period such that the maximum activation requirements are met while the system utilization is minimized [1]. Given a task graph design allowing producer/consumer relationships among tasks [2], resource demands of tasks, and range constraints on periods, the period assignment problem falls into a class of nonlinear optimization problems. This paper proposes a ploynomial time approximation algorithm which produces a solution whose utilization does not exceed twice the optimal utilization. Our experimental analysis shows that the proposed algorithm finds solutions which are very close to the optimal ones in most cases of practical interest.

Estimating Geometric Transformation of Planar Pattern in Spherical Panoramic Image (구면 파노라마 영상에서의 평면 패턴의 기하 변환 추정)

  • A spherical panoramic image does not conform to the pin-hole camera model, and, hence, it is not possible to utilize previous techniques consisting of plane-to-plane transformation. In this paper, we propose a new method to estimate the planar geometric transformation between the planar image and a spherical panoramic image. Our proposed method estimates the transformation parameters for latitude, longitude, rotation and scaling factors when the matching pairs between a spherical panoramic image and a planar image are given. A planar image is projected into a spherical panoramic image through two steps of nonlinear coordinate transformations, which makes it difficult to compute the geometric transformation. The advantage of using our method is that we can uncover each of the implicit factors as well as the overall transformation. The experiment results show that our proposed method can achieve estimation errors of around 1% and is not affected by deformation factors, such as the latitude and rotation.

Does it Always Pay to be Collaborative? Supply Chain Collaboration Revisited in the Consideration of Supplier-Buyer Dependence and Curvilinear Relationships (협력은 항상 옳은가? 거래 의존성과 비선형 관계를 고려한 공급사슬 협력에 대한 재고찰)

  • Firms have reexamined and restructured their supply chain based on a long-term and partnership perspective as a firm's competitive advantage increasingly relies on its supply chain capability. A number of scholar works has provided evidence to support the positive effects of supply chain collaboration; however, the relationship between collaboration and performance is still inconclusive. This study refuses to have blinded faith on supply chain collaboration, but rather this paper suggests that the contribution of collaboration to supply chain performance improvement can be limited and vary along the contextual characteristics of a buyer-supplier relationship. Moreover, we argue that the relationship between supply chain collaboration and performance can be curvilinear. This paper provides and test hypotheses regarding the relationship between supply chain collaboration and performance. By using data of the Manufacturing Panel Survey (MPS), this study empirically validates the hypotheses. Overall, the results of the study support our hypotheses about a limited contribution of supply chain collaboration to manufacturing performance, which is opposite to a conventional expectation. Particularly, the effects of supply chain collaboration differ depending on the dimensions of performance such as customer satisfaction, quality, cost, delivery, and flexibility as well as the dependency in the buyer-supplier relationship. Moreover, the results of the study indicate that supply chain collaboration and performance may have curvilinear relationships in a certain context. Through a comprehensive model and empirical evidence, this study presents a better understanding of supply chain collaboration and provokes an open discussion about the effects of collaboration. This study also provides insightful implications for managers of buyers as well as suppliers who wish to foster stronger supply chain performance via a deep buyer-supplier relationship and collaboration.

Ultimate Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Hyperbolic Cooling Tower (R/C 쌍곡 냉각탑의 극한 거동)

  • Inelastic nonlinear behavior of a hyperbolic cooling tower under wind loading is studied using a finite element program developed on a Cray Y-MP. Convergence studies for the elastic and inelastic analyses are performed using three mesh models. It is shown that the mesh convergence plays an important role in accurately predicting the inelastic behavior of a cooling tower. Even though the cooling tower resists the applied forces through membrane stresses, it is found that the bending stresses play an important role in the failure and behavior of the cooling tower. The present analysis gives a shape factor of 1.48, which indicates a significant redistribution of meridional stresses. It is further evidenced by the distribution of meridional reinforcement yielding which reaches up to $30^{\circ}$ from the windward meridian. The present practice of using elastic analysis for calculating the design stresses appears to be at least safe and conservative. A more comprehensive study should lead to conclusions that would allow use of a higher-than-one shape factor, thus requiring less meridional reinforcement than the present design method does.

  • This paper deals with the capital budgeting problem of a firm where investments are risky and interrelated. The established models might be classified into two categories; One is the chance-constrained programming model and the other is the expected utility maximization model. The former has a rather limited objective function and does not consider the risk in direct manner. The latter, on the other hand, might lead to a wrong decision because it uses an approximate value of expected utility. This paper attempts to extend the applicability of the chance-constrained programming model by modifying its objective function into a more general form. The capital budgeting problem is formulated as a nonlinear 0-1 integer programming problem first, and is formulated into a linear 0-1 integer programming problem for finding a lower-bound solution of the original problem. The optimal solution of the original problem is then obtained by branch & bound algorithm.

Air Pollution and Life Satisfaction in Korea (한국의 대기오염과 생활만족도)

  • This study is to investigate causal relationship between individual life satisfaction and air pollution, using ordered probit model with the KLIPS panel dataset for 1998-2008. As determinants, both individual economic and socio-demographic characteristics are considered. Empirical results show that the degree of air pollution has negative effects on individual life satisfaction. The effects of other variables are similar to those of existing studies. This study found that life satisfaction increases along with income increase. However, at a certain point, the increase of life satisfaction becomes smaller even with an increase in income, indicating non-linear effect. It implies that the Easterlin's paradox can be applied to Korea's case. The increase of the other person's income measured by income per capita in the region where respondent resides has negative effects on life satisfaction. On the other hand, a person who has married, own house, stayed healthy, and highly been educated is likely to have higher life satisfaction. Additionally, a person with many household members, urban resident, unemployed or self-employed are negatively correlated with life satisfaction.
