At present, the information on the foundation-structure interaction is lacking. As a result, the seismic performance evaluation of buildings seldom considers the effect of the foundation performance on the building responses. Recent earthquakes such as the 1993 Hokkaido Nansei-oki Earthquake(M=7.8), the 1994 Northridge Earthquake(M=6.7), the 1995 Hyogoken-Nambu Earthquake(M=7.2), and the 1999 Chi-Chi Earthquake (M=7.6) have shown that building damages are significantly affected by the degree of damage sustained by the building foundation and the interaction between the building and the foundation. This paper presents a nonlinear seismic analysis method for the seismic performance evaluation of reinforced concrete buildings which considers the pile foundation-structure interaction. The proposed method is applied to an actual building which was damaged during the 1993 Hokkaido Nansei-oki Earthquake. The result reveal that the method is able to predict the performance of the building.

In this study, the collision analysis of SCP(Sandwich Concrete Panel) composing the outer tank of LNG storage was performed and its collision behavior was analyzed. For the same collision energy value proposed in BS7777 code, the collision conditions are composed by using two types of missiles and various collision speeds. Nonlinear dynamic analysis models were constructed to perform numerical analysis on the various collision conditions. Also, the collision behavior was analyzed assuming that the second collision with the same collision energy occurs at the same point after the first collision. As a result of the analysis, it was found that with smaller missile and low collision speed had caused larger deformation. The collision energy dissipated in ratio of about 6: 4 in the outer steel plate and the inner filling concrete. In the results of double collision analysis, the final collisional deformation was dominated by the size of the second missile, and the amount of deformation due to the second collision was smaller than that of the first collision because of the membrane behavior of the steel plates. In the offset double collision cases, the largest deformation occurs at the secondary collision point regardless of the offset distance.

In this paper we perform a linearized buckling analysis using the Kirchhoff plate theory and the von Karman nonlinear strain-displacement relation. Design sensitivity analysis(DSA) expressions for plane elasticity and buckling problems are derived with respect to Young's modulus and thickness. Using the design sensitivity, we can formulate the topology optimization method for minimizing the compliance and maximizing eigenvalues. We develop a topology optimization method applicable to plate buckling problems using the prestress for buckling analysis. Since the prestress is needed to assemble the stress matrix for buckling problem using the von Karman nonlinear strain, we introduced out-of-plane motion. The design variables are parameterized into normalized bulk material densities. The objective functions are the minimum compliance and the maximum eigenvalues and the constraint is the allowable volume. Through several numerical examples, the developed DSA method is verified to yield very accurate sensitivity results compared with the finite difference ones and the topology optimization yields physically meaningful results.
We prepared the side-chain type nonlinear optical NPP(N-(6-nitrophenyl)-(L)-prolinol) polymer films by spin coating method. Ellipsometric spectra were in situ collected by using spectroscopic phase modulated ellipsometer while the NPP polymer films were being corona poled at the temperature above glass transition. We calculated film thickness and the refractive index dispersion by modeling the spectro-ellipsometry data in transparent region. We also calculated the refractive index and the extinction coefficient of the polymer films by numerically inverting the spectro-ellipsometry data in absorbing region, while the previously determined film thickness was used. The independently determined extinction coefficient spectra from the analysis of transmission spectra were compared with those by spectro-ellipsometry and they showed an excellent agreement with each other. From the analysis of the complex refractive index change of the NPP polymer thin films induced by the corona poling, we could determine the vertical complex refractive index and the horizontal complex refractive index separately. Using the volume fraction of the vertical component f⊥, the degree of poling of poled NPP polymer films was quantitatively addressed. It is suggested that the present method can be used to quantitatively address the degree of poling in an absolute manner and to depth profile the poled fraction of thick polymer films. It will be useful to understand the structural change of polymer films and hence the poling mechanism during the poling process.
One-dimensional equivalent linear site response analysis is widely used in practice due to its simplicity, requiring only few input parameters, and low computational cost. The main limitation of the procedure is that it is essentially a linear method, in which the time dependent change in the soil properties cannot be modeled and constant values of shear modulus and damping is used throughout the duration of the analysis. Various forms of modified equivalent linear analyses have been developed to enhance the accuracy of the equivalent linear method by incorporating the dependence of the shear strain with the loading frequency. The methods are identical in that it uses the shear strain Fourier spectrum as the backbone of the analysis, but differ in the method in which the strain Fourier spectrum is smoothed. This study used two domestically measured soil profiles to perform a series of nonlinear, equivalent linear, and modified equivalent linear site response analyses to verify the accuracy of two modified procedures. The results of the analyses indicate that the modified equivalent linear analysis can highly overestimate the amplification of the high frequency components of the ground motion. The degree of overestimation is dependent on the characteristics of the input ground motion. Use of a motion rich in high frequency contents can result in unrealistic response.
This is an explicit-Implicit, finite element analysis for linear as well as nonlinear hygrothermal stress problems. Additional features, such as moisture diffusion equation, crack element and virtual crack extension(VCE ) method for evaluating J-integral are implemented in this program. The Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics(LEFM) Theory is employed to estimate the crack driving force under the transient condition for and existing crack. Pores in materials are assumed to be saturated with moisture in the liquid form at the room temperature, which may vaporize as the temperature increases. The vaporization effects on the crack driving force are also studied. The Ideal gas equation is employed to estimate the thermodynamic pressure due to vaporization at each time step after solving basic nodal values. A set of field equations governing the time dependent response of porous media are derived from balance laws based on the mixture theory Darcy's law Is assumed for the fluid flow through the porous media. Perzyna's viscoplastic model incorporating the Von-Mises yield criterion are implemented. The Green-Naghdi stress rate is used for the invariant of stress tensor under superposed rigid body motion. Isotropic elements are used for the spatial discretization and an iterative scheme based on the full newton-Raphson method is used for solving the nonlinear governing equations.
In this paper, we propose easily tooling method for Seidel third order aberration, which are not well utilized in actual design process due to the complication of mathematical operation and the difficulty of understanding Seidel third order aberration theory, even though most insightful and systematic means in pre-designing for the initial data of optimization. First, using paraxial ray tracing and Seidel third order aberration theory, spherical aberration coefficient is derived for a two-mirror system with a finite object distance. The coefficient, which is expressed as a higher-order nonlinear equation, consists of design parameters(object distance, two curvatures, and inter-mirror distance) and effective focal length(EFL). Then, the expressed analytical equation is solved by using a computer with numerical analysis method. From the obtained numerical solutions satisfying the nearly zero coefficient condition($<10^{-6}$), linear fitting process offers a linear relationship called the curvature linear equation between two mirrors. Consequently, this linear equation has two worthy meanings: the equation gives a possibility to obtain initial design data for optimization easily. And the equation shows linear relationship to a two-mirror system with a finite object distance under the condition of corrected third order spherical aberration.
Pseudo-static slope stability analysis method is widely used in engineering practice to calculate the seismic factor of safety of slope subjected to earthquake ground motions. Although the dynamic analysis method is well recognized to have the primary advantage of simulating the stress-strain response of soils, it is not often used in practice because of the difficult in estimating the factor of safety. In this study, a procedure which utilizes the dynamic analysis method to extract the transient dynamic factor of safety is devleoped. This method overcomes the major limitation of the pseudo-static method, which uses an empirically determined seismic coefficient to derive the factor of safety. The proposed method is applied to a slope model and the result is compared with that of the pseudo-static method. It is shown that minimum dynamic factor of safety calculated by the dynamic analysis is slightly larger than that determined from the pseudo-static method. It is also demonstrated that the dynamic factor of safety becomes minimum when the horizontal seismic coefficient and horizontal average acceleration are maximum.
The domestic used car market continues to grow along with the used car online platform service. The used car online platform service discloses vehicle specifications, accident history, inspection history, and detailed options to service consumers. Most of the preceding studies were predictions of used car prices using vehicle specifications and some options for vehicles. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that there was a nonlinear relationship between used car prices and some specification variables. Accordingly, the researchers tried to solve the nonlinear problem by executing a Machine Learning model. In common, the Regression based Machine Learning model had the advantage of knowing the actual influence and direction of variables, but there was a disadvantage of low Cost Function figures compared to the Decision Tree based Machine Learning model. This study attempted to predict used car prices of six domestic brands by utilizing both vehicle specifications and vehicle options. Through this, we tried to collect the advantages of the two types of Machine Learning models. To this end, we sequentially conducted a regression based Machine Learning model and a decision tree based Machine Learning model. As a result of the analysis, the practical influence and direction of each brand variable, and the best tree based Machine Learning model were selected. The implications of this study are as follows. It will help buyers and sellers who use used car online platform services to predict approximate used car prices. And it is hoped that it will help solve the problem caused by information inequality among users of the used car online platform service.

The effective rainfall is calculated considering the soil moisture. It utilizes observed data directly in order to incorporate the soil moisture into the rainfall-runoff model, or it calculates indirectly within the model. The rainfall-runoff model, IHACRES, used in this study computes the catchment wetness index (CWI) first varying with temperature and utilize it for estimating precipitation loss. The nonlinear relationship between the CWI and the effective rainfall in the Hapcheondam watershed was derived and utilized for the long-term runoff calculation. The effects of variable and constant CWI during calibration and validation were suggested by flow regime. The results show the variable CWI is generally more effective than the constant CWI. The $R^2$ during high flow period shows relatively higher than the ones during normal or low flow period, but the difference between cases of the variable and constant CWI was insignificant. The results indicates that the high flow is relatively less sensitive to the evaporation and soil moisture associated with temperature. On the other hand, the variable CWI gives more desirable results during normal and low flow periods which means that it is crucial to incorporate evaporation and soil moisture depending on temperature into long-term continuous runoff simulation. The NSE tends to decrease during high flow period with high variability which could be natural because NSE index is largely influenced by outliers of underlying variable. Nevertheless overall NSE shows satisfactory range higher than 0.9. The utilization of variable CWI during normal and low flow period would improve the computation of long-term rainfall-runoff simulation.
