  • The contents of total nitrogen, total phosphate, and total potash are important factors to determine the application rate of the organic fertilizers to arable lands. The concentrations of nutrient, organic matter, salt, water, heavy metal in mixed oil cakes and mixed organic fertilizers in circulation were investigated with 141 and 179, respectively. The mean levels of total nitrogen, total phosphate, and total potash in organic fertilizers of from 2015 to 2017 were 4.9%, 2.8%, 1.7%, respectively. The average contents of organic matter, salt, and water were 77.0%, 11.5%, and 0.3%, in mixed oil cakes, and 72.3%, 11.7%, 0.5% in mixed organic fertilizer, respectively. The maximum concentrations of Cr, Cu, Ni, and Zn were found to be in accordance with the official standard of commercial fertilizer. In order to promote balanced nutrient absorption of crops, it is necessary to increase the average content of total potash of the organic fertilizers to 3.2%.

  • In order to obtain optimum mixing conditions with animal cadaver residue and sawdust for composting using rendering treatment method for agricultural recycling, changes of chemical characteristics and compost quality after composting were investigated. Initial mixing ratios with animal cadaver residue and sawdust were adjusted 100 : 0, 50 : 50 and 30 : 70. Temperature, pH, contents of ammonia and carbon dioxide were rapidly increased in 3 days and then decreased with time. Organic matter content was similar in all conditions. In mixing ratio of 50 : 50, the compost quality was satisfied with compost depending on official standard for product fertilizer. Thus, the optimum mixing ratio of animal cadaver residue and sawdust were 50 : 50.

  • We conducted an on-site application study at the livestock cooperative fertilizer plant to compare the composting period, temperature change, moisture content, and chemical properties between livestock manure compost using sawdust as a moisture regulator with those using spent oyster mushroom substrate. The composting period, moisture content, and fertilizer composition of compost containing spent oyster mushroom substrate did not differ from that of conventional compost mixed with sawdust after the first and second fermentation and post-maturation stages, it was suitable as a material for manufacturing livestock manure compost. The spent oyster mushroom substrate also lower the production cost of livestock manure compost by replacing the more expensive sawdust. The developed technology is expected to contribute towards the utilization of by-products of the oyster mushroom harvest while simultaneously producing high quality livestock manure compost.

  • This study was designed to evaluate the feasibility of direct application of quenched slag, as a silicate fertilizer byproduct of iron and steel industry. A field experiment was conducted on a low silica content paddy soil and its effect was compared to over corresponding air-cooled slag of milled commercial silicate fertilizer on rice plant growth and yields. The yields of rice were slightly higher in the commercial air-cooled slag than in the quenched slag, however, there was no significant statistical difference. The silica content of rice plants at harvest was higher in commercial silicate fertilizer than that of quenched slag. The available soil silica was high in quenched slag at the early growing stage, however, at harvest higher in air-cooled slag, which meant that the quenched slag might release silica quickly in soil. This results indicated that the slag could be considered resource as a silicate fertilizer.
