  • This study examines ERPT with asymmetric response and both import and export market shares, using wool trade data. The study found that, asymmetric response may be as common as symmetric response. In addition, the responses (both in price and quantity demanded) to the changes in exchange rate are considerably different across goods, and even for the homogenous goods, across countries. In case of depreciation, the export price changes more than appreciation case in general, and as a result the destination price changes less. It is also found that the cases of excessive or perverse pass-through are found more frequently than reported by previous studies. This finding points out that strategic behavior of firms or unexpected response to exchange rate fluctuation takes place more frequently than we commonly expect or take, in particular at disaggregated levels. When the model considers asymmetric responses of the export price to appreciation and depreciation (of exporter's currency), the estimation provided that for 39 trade cases out of 83, export price responded to appreciation and depreciation in different fashions, although the normal response was the dominating phenomenon with 99 cases or about 60% out of 166 cases. Market shares affected the extent and direction of responses in select cases. These findings will have important implications for policy makers and traders.

  • This paper evaluate the robustness of the Okun relationship based on Korean data for 1979~2008. For estimating a natural unemployment rate, this study uses time series econometric methodologies. This paper finds some interesting results; first of all, a bench mark estimates of Okun's ${\beta}$ range from 2 to 4 with different methodologies. This is a little bit higher scale than that of Lee(2000)'s results, which estimated the Okun's coefficient on the advanced countries' 1955~1996. Secondly, we test an asymmetric behavior of unemployment rate on business cycle. But the results are mixed. Finally we cannot find the evidence of structural break for the periods of 1979~80 and 1997~98 crises.

  • Because facial asymmetry is caused by various causes, the cause analysis is important and quantitative index is needed to the evaluation. In this study, we applied the Nottingham Grading System that was used as a quantitative index to evaluate the facial paralysis by tracking the markers through the image processing and calculating the distance between the markers with images obtained by using the webcam, to evaluate facial asymmetry. The existing Nottingham Grading System has a problem of causing a measurement error in the specific case because the left and right are compared by summing the distance change between the feature points of the face part according to the change of the facial expression. We compared the case of the facial asymmetry and case of normal subject by using the existing Nottingham Grading System and the improved Nottingham grading system. In the existing Nottingham Grading System, case of facial asymmetry and case of facial symmetry were 99.0% and 95.0% respectively in the normal range, but the improved Nottingham Grading System showed facial asymmetry case was 74.0% and facial symmetrical case was 93.2%. The results of experiment show that the improved Nottingham Grading System allows detailed evaluation of each site and improved the problem of the Nottingham Grading System for specific cases.

  • Objectives : Despite the applicability of Korean Medicine(KM) treatments for facial asymmetry, no relevant study has been reported. In this case report, we report the effect and safety of KM treatments on facial asymmetry by mandibular lateral displacement. Methods : Three patients suffering from facial asymmetry received twelve KM treatment sessions composed of Motion Style Treatment(MST), Yinyang Balance Appliance(YBA) of Functional Cerebrospinal Therapy(FCST), and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization(IASTM). The photos of each patient were taken before and after the treatment. And four primary reference lines were assessed before and after the treatment. Results : All subjects were improved after KM treatments on photos. However, no statistical significance was observed. Conclusions : This case report is the first to introduce the effect of KM treatments on facial asymmetry. Further well-designed, randomized, placebo-controlled trials are needed to verify these results.

  • This study was conducted to explore the implicit structure of gender-stereotype which is one of the social categories. Social categories were considered to have the more evaluative properties and unclear hierarchical representations compared to the objects or the action categories. In this series of experiments. we want to examine the generalizability of the congruent effect into gender-stereotype using a priming paradigm and introducing the various SOA (stimulus onset asynchrony. SOA 250ms to 1000ms). The results of Experiment 1 and 3 (SOA 250-500ms) showed that the priming effects of female-female condition was larger than the other conditions. However. Experiment 2 (SOA 1000ms) showed that the priming effects among the conditions disappeared. We found the female-congruent effects only in a short SOA. These results suggest the possibility that the gender-stereotype in the automatic and implicit processing level can be represented b by the cross-categorical structure in some cultural area.

  • Asymmetry in the face and dentition is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Functional asymmetry can result the mandible being deflected laterally if occlusal interferences prevent proper intercuspation in centric relation. Five year old girl was referred to the pediatric department for mandibular deviation. The patient had right posterior crossbite and 2.5mm midline deviation due to dental caries on the primary teeth. The authors used the activator as occlusal splint for eliminating habitual posturing and deprogramming the musculature in the treatment of functional asymmetry and for occlusal stabilization restored the primary molars with cast crowns.

  • This paper has analyzed how conduction path and electron concentration for the device parameters such as oxide thickness, channel doping, and top and bottom gate voltage influence on subthreshold swing of asymmetric double gate MOSFET. Compared with symmetric and asymmetric double gate MOSFET, asymmetric double gate MOSFET has the advantage that the factors to be able to control the short channel effects increase since top and bottom gate oxide thickness and voltages can be set differently. Therefore the conduction path and electron concentration for top and bottom gate oxide thickness and voltages are investigated, and it is found the optimum conditions that the degradation of subthreshold swing, severe short channel effects, can reduce. To obtain the analytical subthreshold swing, the analytical potential distribution is derived from Possion's equation. As a result, conduction path and electron concentration are greatly changed for device parameters, and subthreshold swing is influenced by conduction path and electron concentration of top and bottom.

  • This paper performed empirical tests of the validity of the pecking order theory which explains financing behavior of firms under information asymmetry. The results of regression analyses using the data of listed manufacturing companies in the Korean Stock Market from 1981 to 2010 have shown strong evidences supporting the pecking order theory. Especially regression coefficients of change of debt on funds deficit and control variables were found to be almost (+1) with statistically significance, which is interpreted as being consistent with the pecking order theory. Same results were found when I performed regression analyses by dividing the sample period into pre-currency crisis period, currency crisis period and post-currency crisis period and using 2 regression models. Change of tangible asset were found to function as collateral rather than reducing information asymmetry and as the firm size decreased, use of debt increased and as profitability increased use of debt decreased, which are consistent with the pecking order theory.
