  • The alternate adaptation algorithm (AAA) is proposed to improve the convergence characteristics and steady-state performance of the constant modulus algorithm (CMA). The alternate adaptation algorithm is a new equalization method which adapts an equalizer alternately by the algorithm with excellent blind convergence characteristics or the algorithm with better steady-state error performance. In this paper, it is introduced that the alternate adaptation equalization of the vsCMA (variable step-size CMA) and the decision-directed (DD) algorithm. We, first, designed the vsCMA with variable step-size to improve the steady-state error performance of the CMA, and combined it with the DD by alternate adaptation. As a result, it was mitigated that the sensitivity of performance fluctuation due to switching timing in CMA-DD switching method, and it was improved that the convergence speed and steady-state error performance of the CMA. Through computer simulations, under multipath channel condition, the usefulness of the proposed method was confirmed for 16-QAM.

  • In this paper, we propose MSAG-SCS-MMA-I adaptive blind equalization with double step size with very small residual ISI and MSE at steady-state while significantly improving the convergence speed of the traditional SCS-MMA-I algorithm in 256-QAM system. And we evaluate the equalization performance for this algorithm. Different step sizes according to the absolute value of decision-directed error instead of a fixed step-size are applied to the tap update equation of MSAG-SCS-MMA-I, which is controlled by binary flags of '1' or '0' obtained from SCS-MMA-I and decision-directed algorithms. This makes for excellent equalization performance. As a result of computer simulation, we confirmed that the proposed algorithm has more better performance than the MMA, SCS-MMA-I, and MSAG-SCS-MMA-I algorithms in terms of the performance index such as residual ISI, MSE, and MD.

  • In this paper, the method which compensates the problem occurred in case M-ary QAM is applied to system is proposed. The conventional CMA has two problems, First, when M is larger than 4, it has a poor performance of equalizer due to a degradation of convergence property. Second, the phase of conventional CMA is distorted after convergence. To compensate these problems, we set the proper interval according to modulated signal when the signal using 16-QAM modulation method is equalized and use a different equalizing method for each interval. Using this method, the ISI is reduced and the performance of equalizing is improved. Also, the computer simulation using residual ISI shows an improved performance.

  • In this paper, the selective normalized constant modulus algorithm(SNCMA) is applied to a fractionally spaced equalizer. The fractionally spaced equalizer is insensitive to the sampling timing because it processes received signals with the sampling rate larger than the symbol rate. The SNCMA improves the convergence rate by using the large step size for the most outer covering symbol belonging to the trust-level. This blind equalizer exhibits a fast start-up convergence rate as well as a reduced steady-state residual error compared to the fractionally spaced blind equalizer and the T-spaced blind equalizer using conventional blind algorithms.

  • This paper studied adaptive blind equalizer which belong to Bussgang type. It is well known that blind equalizer performs equalization without using a training sequence. Especially, this paper concentrated on real time processing of them. The channel characteristic was obtained from measurements taken in a real urban multipath environment. A T/2 fractionally-spaced equalizer was used at the receiving end. Our computer simulations demonstrated that Stop and Go, Benveniste-Goursat, and optimal Bussgang algorithms have relatively low MSE property. CMA shows faster convergence property than any other of Bussgang type algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a SMMA(Sliced-Multi Modulus Algorithm) adaptive blind equalization algorithm with Flag for high order QAM system. SMMA has improved characteristics by applying the multi contour to MMA. However, SMMA still has a limit that the mismatch problem causes the residual error in the steady state is large. In order to significantly reduce the residual error in the steady state, we propose SMMA, which is controlled by the binary Flag of '1 'or '0' obtained from SMMA and a decision-directed algorithm, and analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm. By computer simulation, it is confirmed that the proposed algorithm has improved performance highly in terms of a residual ISI and a residual error in the steady state compared with MMA and SMMA.

  • In this study, wer derived LMF-Sato, LMSF-Sato complex blind equalization algorithms for complex data. And then, the convergence rates, the convergence characteristics at the steady state and the stability of the proposed LMF and LMSF blind equalization algorithms are compared with those of LMS-Sato blind equalization algorithm. In simulations with 16-QAM data, LMF-Sato and LMSF-Sato algorithms showed better performance comparing with LMS-Sato algorithm generally. When the initial estimation errors of the weights of the equalizer are large, LMF-Sato algorithm showed ill characteristic in stability. However, LMSF-Sato algorithm has good covergence characteristics and preserves robustness.

  • This paper related with the performance comparison of CCA and RMMA blind adaptive equalization in order to reduce the intersymbol interference which is occurred in channel when transmitting the 16-QAM signal, high spectrum efficiencies of nonconstant modulus characteristic. The CCA possible to improve the misadustment and initial convergence by compacting the every signal constellation of 16 by using the sliced symbol of the decision device output, namely statistical symbol, but incresing the computational cost. The RMMA possible to minimize the fast convergence speed and misadjustment and channel tracking capability without increasing the computational cost by obtain the error signal after transform to 4 constant modulus signal based on the region of signal constellation located. In this paper, these algorithm were implemented in the same channel, and the blind adaptive equalization performance were compared using the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, MSE, SER. As a result of simulation, the RMMA has better performance in output signal constellation, residual isi and MSE compared to the CCA, but has slow convergence speed about 1.3 times. And the SER performance presenting the robustness to the noise signal, the CCA has more beeter in less SNR, but the RMMA has better in greater than 6dB in SNR.

  • For blind equalization of communication channels, concurrent equalization is useful to improve convergence characteristics. However, the concurrent equalization will result in limited performance enhancement by continuing concurrent adaptation with two algorithms after the equalizer converges to steady-state. In this paper, to improve the convergence characteristics and steady-state performance of the concurrent equalization, proposed is a new concurrent equalization technique with variable step-size parameter and weight-based tap coefficients update. The proposed concurrent vsCMA+DD equalization calculates weight factors using error signals of the variable step-size CMA (vsCMA) and DD (decision-directed) algorithm, and then updates the two equalizers based on the weights respectively. The proposed method, first, improves the error performance of the CMA by the vsCMA, and enhances the steady-state performance as well as the convergence speed further by the weight-based tap coefficients update. The performance improvement by the proposed scheme is verified through simulations.

  • For effective updating a blind equalizer, we propose the adaptive algorithm having faster convergence speed required for initial equalization and satisfying low error level required in steady-state while having a gradual and reversible switching characteristics between initial stage and steady-state. The proposed method presents three criteria to distinguish the state of equalized signal, according to the criteria, differently updates the equalizer by using the hybrid error generation algorithm generating one of the three errors. Wherein as the criteria to determine the state of the equalized signal the confidence intervals on the signal constellation are used, an error is generated alternatively according to the confidence interval where equalizer output lies, and the equalizer is updated by, we got convergence quickly and to lower error level. In order to verify the usefulness of the proposed idea, simulation results were compared to the performance of conventional methods.
