We present a near-optimal blind decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for Advanced Television Systems Committee digital television (DTV) receivers. By adopting a modified trellis decoder (MTD) with trace back depth of 1 for the decision device In the DFE, we obtain a hardware-efficient near-optimal blind DFE approaching to the optimal DFE which has no error propagation. The MTD uses absolute distance instead of Euclidean distance for computation of a path metric, resulting. In reduced computational complexity. Comparing to the conventional slicer, the MTD shows outstanding performance improvement of decision error probability and is comparable to the original trellis decoder using Euclidean distance. Reducing error propagation in the DFE leads to the improvement of convergence performance in terms of convergence speed and residual error. Simulation results show that the proposed blind DFE performs much better than the blind DFE with the slicer.

As information theoretic learning techniques, error entropy minimization criterion (MEE) and maximum cross correntropy criterion (MCC) have been studied in depth for supervised learning. MEE criterion leads to maximization of information potential and MCC criterion leads to maximization of cross correlation between output and input random processes. The weighted combination scheme of these two criteria, namely, minimization of Error Entropy with Fiducial points (MEEF) has been introduced and developed by many researchers. As an approach to unsupervised, blind channel equalization, we investigate the possibility of applying constant modulus error (CME) to MEE criterion and some problems of the method. Also we study on the application of CME to MEEF for blind equalization and find out that MEE-CME loses the information of the constant modulus. This leads MEE-CME and MEEF-CME not to converge or to converge slower than other algorithms dependent on the constant modulus.

This paper is concerned with the performance comparison of CR-CMA (Coordinate Reduction-CMA) and CM-CMA (Constellation Matching-Constant Modulus Algorithm) that is used for improving the convergence characteristic and residual intersymbol interference which are used as the performance index for an adaptive equalizer. The equalizer is used to reduce the distortion caused by the intersymbol interference on the wireless and the wired band-limited channel, and the blind method which does not need for extra bandwidth by the training sequence of digital code are researched. Recently, by using the merit of simple operation in the CMA, the performance improvement is obtained by the modifying the cost function of it. In this paper, the new algorithm, CR-CMA and CM-CMA, the performance analysis are performed and compared by computer simulation. The CR-CMA has a superior equalization characteristics in the recovered constellation, convergence speed and residual intersymbol interference than the CM-CMA by computer simulation.

This paper deals with the performance comparison of adaptive equalization algorithm, CMA and MMA, that is used for the minimization of the distortion and noise effect in the communication channel at receiver.. We confirmed the application possibilities of the point to point or point to multipoint digital transmission technologies by analyzing the performance of MMA which is changing the error function of CMA that is the possible algorithm of fast equalization by relatively simple arithmatic computation compared to the other method. In CMA algorithm, we need the PLL for the amplitude compensation only and not possible to phase compensation inherently. But in MMA algorithm, we confired that the amplitude and phase of received signal can be compensated by computer simulation. For the comparison of algorithm, we used the essential performance index, convergence characteristics and residual isi. The result of performance comparison of algorithms, the MMA has good in convergence characteristic and the CMA has good in residual isi that is used for the amplitude compensation.

This paper relates with the VSDA (Variable stepsize Square contour Decision directed Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm that is used for the minimization of the intersymbol interference due to the distortion which occurs in the time dispersive channel for the transmission of 16-QAM signal.. In the conventional SCA, it is possible to compensates the amplitude and phase in the received signal that are mixed with the intersymbol interference by the constellatin dependent constant by using the 2nd order statistics of the transmitted signal. But in the VSDA, it is possible to the increasing the equalization performance by adding the concept of distance adjusted approach for constellation matching and the cost function of decision directed. We compare the performance of VSDA and SCA algorithm by the computer simulation. For this, the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion and MSE were used in the performace index. As a result of computer simulation, the VSDA algorithm has better than the SCA in convergence speed, but it gives nearly same equalization performance in other index.
This paper analyzes the performance of symbol timing recovery and equalizer in 8VSB digital terrestrial TV receiver under various multipath signals and proposes equalization techniques which improve indoor reception performance. Data segment sync is used for symbol timing recovery and timing offset is measured for echoes of various delays and amplitudes by using symbol timing detection filter whose pattern is +1. +1. -1. and -1. Measured timing offsets were below 10% for long echoes with more than 5 symbol delay and above 30% for short echoes with around 1 symbol delay. Indoor reception is always more challenging than outdoor reception due to lower signal strength. large and short multipaths. and moving interfering objects. So it is considered to use FSE (Fractionally Spaced Equalizer) which is very robust to timing offset and blind equalizer which can update equalizer tap coefficients even by information data. We compare the performance of conventional DFE (Decision Feedback Equalizer) and FSE-DFE using LMS algorithm and Stop and Go algorithm for the indoor reception. Experiments reveals FSE has excellent performance for large timing offset and Stop and Go algorithm shows good performance for Doppler shift. so we propose to use FSE-DFE structure with Stop and Go algorithm for the reliable indoor reception.

Complex-valued blind algorithms which are based on constant modulus error and Euclidian distance (ED) between two probability density functions show relatively poor performance in spite of the advantages of information theoretic learning since the inherent characteristics of the constant modulus error prevent the algorithm from coping with the symbol phase rotation caused by the complex channels. In this paper, we show that the symbol phase rotation problem can be avoided and the advantages of information theoretic learning can be preserved by introducing decision-directed mode to the blind algorithm whenever the equalizer output power lies in the neighborhood of multi-modulus levels. Simulation results through MSE convergence and constellation comparison for severely distorted complex channels show significantly enhanced performance of symbol-point concentration and no phase rotation problems caused by the complex channel models.

Please In this paper, to cope with biased impulsive noise problems, a new information potential is proposed that can move the transmitted symbol points by modifying the information potential designed with Dirac-delta functions. Based on the proposed information potential a new blind algorithm is derived by employing an augmented filter structure. From the simulation results in the environment of biased impulsive noise, the conventional algorithms yield performance degradation by over 15 dB, but the proposed algorithm shows no performance degradation and holds the same steady state MSE of below -25 dB as after the initial convergence regardless of the channel conditions.

This paper related with the VSS_SE-MMA (Varying Step Size_Signed Error-MMA) which possible to improving the equalization performance that employing the varying adaptive step size based on the nonlinearities of error signal of SE-MMA (Signed Error-MMA), compensates the intersymbol interference by distortion occurs at the communication channel, in the transmitting the spectral efficient nonconstant modulus signal such as 16-QAM. The SE-MMA appeared to the reducing the computational arithematic operation using the polarity of error signal in the updating the tap coefficient of present MMA adaptive equalizer, but have a problem of equalization performance degradation. The VSS_SE-MMA improves the problem of such SE-MMA, using the varying step size consider the error signal in the update the adaptive equalizer tap coefficient, and its improved performance were confirmed by simulation. For this, the output signal constellation of equalizer, the residual isi and maximum distortion, MSE and SER were applied. As a result of computer simulation, it was confirmed that the VSS_SE-MMA algorithm has nearly same in convergence speed and has more good performance in every performance index at the steady state.

The complex-valued blind algorithm based on a set of randomly generated symbols and Euclidean distance can take advantage of information theoretic learning and cope with the channel phase rotation problems. On the algorithm, in this paper, the effect of kernel size has been studied and a kernel-modified version of the algorithm that rearranges the forces between the information potentials by kernel-modification has been proposed. In simulation results for 16 QAM and complex-channel models, the proposed algorithm show significantly enhanced performance of symbol-point concentration and no phase rotation problems caused by the complex channel models.
