  • This study empirically compared generational differences in responses between baby boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y groups as measured by key variables related to advertisement. The respondents in this study were consumers throughout Korea, with 914 survey questionnaires used for the final analyses. Eight of the original 10 hypotheses were validated and two were rejected. Both baby boomer consumers and Generation Y consumers showed more positive responses to affective advertisements than their Generation X counterparts. Generation Y consumers showed more positive attitudes towards humorous advertisements than their baby boomer and Generation X counterparts. The effect of advertising models on the evaluation of advertisements was greater among Generation Y consumers than their Generation X counterparts. Generation Y consumers showed more positive attitudes towards storytelling-type marketing than their baby boomer and Generation X counterparts. Baby boomer consumers showed more positive attitudes towards symbolic advertisements than their Generation X and Generation Y counterparts. Generation X consumers showed more positive attitudes towards functional advertisements than the baby boomer and Generation Y groups. There were significant differences in attitudes towards two types (symbolic and functional) of advertisements in both baby boomer consumers and Generation X consumers.

  • In this paper, the boom of a floating crane is modeled as a 3-dimensional elastic beam in order to analyze the dynamic response of the crane and its cargo. The boom is divided into more than two elements based on finite element formulation, and deformation of each element is expressed in terms of shape matrix and nodal coordinates. The equations of motion for the elastic boom consist of a mass matrix, a stiffness matrix, and a quadratic velocity vector that contains the gyroscopic and Coriolis forces. The size and complicity of the matrices increase in proportion with the number of elements. Therefore, it is not possible to derive the equations of motion explicitly for different number of elements. To overcome this difficulty, matrices for one 3-dimensional element are expressed with elementary sub-matrices. In particular, the quadratic velocity vector is derived as a product of a shape matrix and a 3-dimensional rotation matrix. By using the derived matrices, the equations of motion for the multi-element boom are automatically constructed. To verify the implementation of the elastic boom based on finite element formulation, we simulated a simple vibration of the elastic boom and compared the average deformation with the analytic solution. Finally, heave motion of the floating crane and surge motion of the cargo are presented as application examples of the elastic boom.

  • Purpose: This study examined factors influencing subjective quality of life in baby boom generation men. Methods: This was a descriptive survey study. Data were collected from 279 baby boom generation men from September to October 2012. The instruments used included a subjective quality of lifescale, a self-esteem scale, a spiritual well-being scale, a communication with spouse scale, a social support scale, and a job satisfaction scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and Hierarchical multiple regression. Results: All variables were positively correlated with subjective quality of life. As a result, factors influencing subjective life of quality were self-esteem (${\beta}$=.21, p<.000), social support (${\beta}$=.20, p<.002), job satisfaction (${\beta}$=.19, p<.001), communication with spouse (${\beta}$=.15, p<.004), spiritual well-being( ${\beta}$=.16, p<.004), and family income (${\beta}$=.15. p<.023). These factors accounted for 61% of the total variances. Conclusion: The findings indicate a need to develop nursing intervention programs for community health nurses in consideration of these variables to improve the subjective quality of life for baby boom generation men.

  • This research was based on surveys about differences of perception on retirement among the babe-boomers. Middle-aged men and women in their 40s' and 50s' residing in metropolitan areas centering around Seoul were the main targets for the surveys. Results indicated meaningful differences between men and women in the level of percection and expectation about their retirement. More specifically, men noted physical health, economic sufficiency and work as significant factors for happy retirement. Women, on the other hand, answered economic sufficiency first, and then physical health and relationship with spouse as the important variables for retirement. In addition, men and women portrayed different expectations for difficulties of retirement. Based on the survey results, this research proposed possible national, social, corporate, and individual approaches for secure retirement of the middle-aged baby-boom generation.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop special tools used to extend the tool life for the boom of heavy equipment. The boom of heavy equipment is manufactured by cutting the inner and outer surface with respect to the assembly site essential. In particular, when cutting the inner surface, entry of the tool is difficult owing to the limited size of the inner diameter and non circular cutting. In addition, the productivity is poor because the use of the cutting tool made of the SKH material. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a special tool for machining heavy equipment boom to extend tool life and to improve productivity. The special tool developed this study has the form of a holder and tip. The tip was created by applying a commercially available tungsten carbide insert.

  • In manufacturing An offshore plant is a structure that produces resources buried in the seabed. It can be classified into fixed, floating, and hybrid methods depending on the installation method. In particular, the Lattice boom type crane is typically used because it is used for a long time in the sea and moves to other seas, which is less affected by wind. In this study, the crane was designed by using three-step optimization design in the early stage of the design of Lattice boom crane for offshore plant. Finite element analysis was performed to verify the safety factor, deflection, buckling coefficient and fatigue life of the designed crane and the results were verified.
