  • This study was designed to examine the influence of academic stress, anxiety, interpersonal dependency, and hopelessness on female high school students and their level of depression. The study subjects were 684 students attending an all-female high school in C city. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires between November 1st, 2016 and December 31st, 2016. The data were analyzed using the SPSSWIN(ver. 21.0) program. The mean values of the level of depression were analyzed by the t-test and ANOVA. The correlation coefficientswereobtained by Pearson correlation analysis and acovariance structure analysis was performed on the factors affecting the level of depression. It was found that the level of depression among all of the subjects was significantly higher within the group with a higher level of academic stress, anxiety, interpersonal dependency, and hopelessness. Thus, the level of depression was positively correlated with the levels of academic stress, anxiety, interpersonal dependency, and hopelessness. The factor that had the most influence on depression was the anxiety factor, followed by interpersonal dependency and academic stress. This result suggests that the level of depression in female high school students has a causal relationship with academic stress, anxiety, interpersonal behavioral characteristics, and hopelessness. Therefore, the most effective strategy to reduce the level of depression among female high school students would appear to be efforts to decrease their academic stress, anxiety, and interpersonal dependency.

  • The present study examines whether fear of negative evaluation, social comparison and self-criticism mediate the relationship between insecure attachment and career indecision. Participants are 401 unemployed people in their 20s who have never had a job. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, correlation analysis indicates that both anxious attachment and avoidant attachment are positively related to fear of negative evaluation and self-criticism. Also, anxious attachment is positively correlated with social comparison, whereas avoidant attachment is negatively correlated with it. Second, both insecure attachments have significant positive correlation with career indecision. Third, it shows the respective unique mechanisms by which each of the two insecure attachment forms are related to career indecision are distinctive: Specifically, The linkage between anxious attachment and career indecision is partially mediated by self-criticism and social comparison, whereas avoidant attachment is indirectly related to career indecision through a full mediation of self-criticism and social comparison. Implications and limitations of this study are discussed.

  • There have been many studies on patients who suffer from anxiety disorders. However, there is been not enough attention on the difference in the level of between the two populations with and without anxiety disorders. This study was performed to investigate the difference in the ANS responses induced by fear in children. Experimental procedures were as follow: All subjects were in upper grade levels in elementary school. ANX(anxiety) scales of PIC(Personality Inventory for Children) were used to measure fear anxiety. Audio-visual clips were used as stimulus to provoke fear emotion. Baseline of physiological signals, ECG, PPG, EDA, and SKT, were measured for 30 seconds before the fear stimulus. Physiological signals were then recorded for 2 minutes while fear is evoked. Psychological and physiological responses were analyzed. All the children reacted to the fear stimulus with high intensity of fear. Physiological responses showed that SKT, SCR, NSCR, HR, RSA, RESP, HF were increased, while R-R was significantly decreased, respectively, during the period of fear induction. Analysis of the level of anxiety and the physiological responses produced by the experience of fear revealed a statistically significant positive correlation in SKT, HR, and RSA. In other words, the higher the level of anxiety, the higher the levels of SKT, HR, and RSA when children experienced fear in conclusion, it is confirmed through this research that physiological responses to fear is associated with the level of anxiety each individual.

  • This study was conducted to provide the basis for psychological management direction of students ahead of their first field practice by grasping the degree of anxiety and confirming the relationship between departments satisfaction and practice expectations. A survey was conducted on dental hygiene students ahead of their first field practice and 135 people were selected as final analysis subjects. Data analysis investigated general characteristics, department satisfaction, field practice expectation and pre-education satisfaction and statistical analysis was conducted through mean(±SD), one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis method. As a result, the anxiety level was high in the lower group of performance in the previous semester, and the department satisfaction and pre-education satisfaction were high in the group with low anxiety level. As a result of the correlation analysis, it was found that department satisfaction, field practice expectation, pre-education satisfaction, and anxiety were negatively correlated, and the higher the practice expectation, the lower the anxiety. Therefore, in order to lower the level of anxiety before field practice, it is necessary to come up with measures to increase interventional pre-education, department satisfaction and field practice expectation.

  • State curiosity and state anxiety in the science learning have a great influence on academic performance and achievement. Since the levels of state curiosity and anxiety can change at any moment, it is essential to identify the levels of student's state curiosity and state anxiety throughout the course of science learning. Accordingly, we assessed the changes in state curiosity and anxiety levels sensed by 5th- and 6th-grade elementary school students depending on their exposure to the violation of expectation. To this end, we classified science learning into three situations: confronting a scientific task, checking the result, and learning science concepts. As a result, there was no significant difference in state curiosity level of the nVOE group who confronting the result consistent with their expectations in checking the result after confronting a scientific task, but the state curiosity level of the VOE group who facing violation of their expectation increased. In the VOE groups, there was no significant change in the state curiosity level of the VOE-R group who correctly inferred the reason for the result, but that of the VOE-FR group who could not correctly inferred increased. The state anxiety levels of the VOE and nVOE groups decreased after checking the result of the task. The state anxiety level also declined in the VOE-R group. In contrast, there was no significant change in state anxiety level of the VOE-FR group. In learning science concepts of the result after checking the result, the state curiosity of the VOE, nVOE, and VOE-FR group all faded. No significant change was observed in the state anxiety level of the nVOE group, whereas the VOE, VOE-R, and VOE-FR group presented a decreased state anxiety. This study discusses the educational implication of these findings and its outcomes are expected to broaden the understanding of emotional states of students in science learning.
