  • We investigate design-based variance estimation methods of homogeneous linear estimator for population total under stratified multi-stage sampling. One method is unbiasedly estimating the first stage variance and the second stage variance separately in each stratum. And another is sub-sampling method that estimating the first stage variance only by using sub-sample selected from the second stage sample so that resulting estimator is unbiased for the total variance. The first is useful when the second stage unbiased estimator is available and the second is when the second stage variance is not estimable. For each case, we proposed a form of non-negative unbiased variance estimator. We expect the proposed variance estimation methods can be effectively used for many practical surveys.

  • We consider statistical methods for nonresponse problem in social and economic sample surveys. To create a complete data set, which does not include item nonresponse data, imputation methods are generally used. In this paper, we introduce some imputation methods and compare them with one another. Also, we consider some problems, which occur when an imputed data set is treated as a response data set. Due to the imputed values, the true variance of the estimator after imputation is increased by the imputation variance. However, since usual naive variance estimator constructed from the imputed data set does not estimate the imputation variance, the true variance of the estimator after imputation tends to be underestimated. Theoretical reason is investigated and serious results are explained through a simulation study. Finally, some adjusted variance estimation methods to compensate for underestimation are presented and discussed.

  • Nowadays, as Cloud computing becomes popular, a need for a DFS(distributed file system) is increased. But, in the current Cloud computing environments, there is no DFS framework that is sufficient to protect sensitive private information from attackers. Therefore, we designed and proposed a secure scheme for distributed file systems. The scheme provides confidentiality and availability for a distributed file system using a secret sharing method. In this paper, we measured the speed of encryption and decryption for our proposed method, and compared them with that of SEED algorithm which is the most popular algorithm in this field. This comparison showed the computational efficiency of our method. Moreover, the proposed secure read/write model is independent of Hadoop DFS structure so that our modified algorithm can be easily adapted for use in the HDFS. Finally, the proposed model is evaluated theoretically using performance measurement method for distributed secret sharing model.

  • This paper suggests a method for estimating components of variance in one-factor random model. Estimates of variance components are given by the method of moments. Sums of squares due to variance sources are obtained by projections. This paper also shows how to use eigenvalues for getting the coefficients of variance components in the expression of the expectations of the mean squares. The suggested method shows easier and faster than the method of Harley's synthesis.

  • DEVS(Discrete Event System Specification) 형식론은 계층적이고 모듈화된 형태로 이산사건 시스템을 기술한다.

  • This paper deals with a method for estimating variance components on the basis of projections under the assumption of random effects model. It discusses how to use projections for getting sums of squares to estimate variance components. The use of projections makes the vector subspace generated by the model matrix to be decomposed into subspaces that are orthogonal each other. To partition the vector space by the model matrix stepwise procedure is used. It is shown that the suggested method is useful for obtaining Type I sum of squares requisite for the ANOVA method.

  • Various types of fibers are utilized in cementitious materials in order to improve their performances. Here, the extent of fiber dispersion is of key importance regardless of the purpose of using fiber. In this study, activated carbon fiber dispersion in mortar samples was evaluated using electrical resistivity method. In particular, the extent of fiber dispersion was compared per mixing methods and surface treatments. The results suggest that the surface resistivity method is capable of evaluating dispersion of activated carbon fiber and that ultrasound dispersion method is superior to mortar mixer and hand mixer method. The use of superplasticizer improved dispersion but acid treatment was not effective.
