Two Efficient Methods for Generating Depth-of-Field (효율적인 피사계 심도 생성을 위한 두 가지 기법)

  • The depth of field is the range that the objects inside of this range treated to be focused. Objects that are placed out of this range are out of focus and become blurred. In computer graphics, generating depth of field effects gives a great reality to rendered images. The previous researches on the depth of field in computer graphics can be divided into two major categories. One of them is the distributed ray tracing that samples the lens area against each pixel. It is possible to obtain precise results without noise if enough number of samples are taken. However, to make a good result, a great number of samples are needed, resulting in an enormous timing requirement. The other approach is the method that approximates depth of field effect by post-processing an image and its depth values computed using a pin-hole camera. Though the second technique is not that physically correct like distributed ray tracing, many approaches which using this idea have been introduced because it is much faster than the first approach. But the post-processing have some limitations because of the lack of ray information. In this paper, we first present an improvement technique that corrects the previous post-processing methods and then propose another one that accelerates the distributed ray tracing by using a radiance caching method.

  • 기존의 병렬 볼륨 렌더링 방법들은 프로세서간의 발생하는 많은 통신량 때문에 통신 속도가 매우 빠른 병렬컴퓨터를 이용하였고 통신속도가 느린 분산 환경에서는 구현이 불가능해 보였다. 또한 가시화하려는 볼륨 데이터도 점점 방대해지고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 통신 속도에 구애받지 앉을뿐더러 매우 큰 볼륨데이터를 다루는 병렬/분산 볼륨 렌더링을 제안한다. 본 방법은 고비용을 필요로 하는 원격 메모리 접근 대신에 압축을 기반으로 하여 필요한 데이터를 지역 메모리에서 빠르게 복원함으로써 좋은 성능향상(speedup)을 나타낸다. 이것은 각 프로세서가 전체 볼륨 데이터를 모두 적재하고 있다는 것을 의미한다. 다라서 렌더링 과정중에 발생하는 프로세서간의 통신을 최소화할 수 있었고, 이런 방식은 높은 통신 비용으로 효율적 병렬/분산 처리가 힘든 분산 메모리 병렬 컴퓨터나 PC/워크스테이션 클러스터상에서 매우 적합하다.

Load Distribution Strategies for High Speed Ray-Tracing on Multiprocessors (고속 광선 추적법을 위한 멀티프로세서에서의 부하분산방식)

  • Ray-tracing algorithm can synthesize photo-realistic image, but its computational cost is high. Fast image synthesis based on ray-tracing is one of the most important topics in computer graphics. There are two methods for high speed ray-tracing. First this paper discusses various load distribution and scheduling of multiprocessor for high sped ray-tracing. Then this paper proposes load distribution strategies based on them, implements and evaluates it on multiprocessor. The experiment results show that the proposed method can solve the unbalanced load problem of dynamic load distribution, and scan line method and dot method among a kind of static load distribution strategies disperse the load efficiently.

Effects of a Dielectric Multilayer Mirror on the Lighting Efficiency of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Studied by Optical Simulation (유전체 다층 거울이 유기발광다이오드의 광효율 향상에 미치는 영향에 관한 광학 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • The effects of a dielectric multilayer mirror on the efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) were investigated by using optical simulation. Adoption of a dielectric mirror consisting of alternating SiN and $SiO_2$ layers narrowed the emission spectrum due to the microcavity effect, and increased the outcoupling efficiency by a few percent. The layer thicknesses of the dielectric mirror were adjusted to change the wavelength of the resonance mode, which may be used to increase the color purity.
