Numerical Study on Urea Spraying and Mixing Characteristics with Application of Static Mixer in Marine SCR System (박용 탈질 시스템의 혼합기 적용에 따른 요소수용액 분무 및 혼합특성 수치적 연구)

  • Among various De-NOx technologies, Urea-based Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems are known to be the most effective in marine diesel applications. The spraying and mixing behavior of the urea-water solution has a decisive effect on the system's net efficiency. Therefore, in this study, the spray behavior and ammonia uniformity with and without a static mixer were analyzed by CFD in order to optimize the SCR system. The results showed that the static mixer significantly affected the uniformity of velocity and ammonia concentration. Static mixers may be especially suited for marine SCR systems with space constraints.

  • 하절기 외기 온도 상승에 따라 에어컨의 사용이 급증하게 되며, 특히 건물등의 공기조화장치의 가동이 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 최근 사회문제로 대두되고 있는 레지오넬라균에 의한 질병은 공기조화기와 밀접한 관계가 있으며, 따라서 이 질병에 대한 이해와 적절한 방지가 무엇보다 중요하다. 레지오넬라는 물과 박테리아가 결합된 상태로 분무상태로 공기에 의해 전염된다. 레지오넬라가 검출되는 인공적인 시설물로는 공조, 산업용 cooling tower, $20^{\circ}C$에서 $45^{\circ}C$ 범외내의 온수 분무를 생산하는 기타의 시스템등에서 발생된다. 이에 (주)한수는 최근 레지오넬라균 및 미생물의 살균처리가 가능한 "레비오켐"을 개발,시판하고 있다.

Spray Characteristics of the Injector for the APU Gas Tubine Engine at Airplane Operating Conditions (항공기 작동조건에 따른 APU 가스터빈엔진 연료노즐의 분무특성)

  • Spray characteristics for APU gas turbine engine are investigated. In the test, four flight conditions such as sea level idle, sea level max power, 20,000 feet idle, 20,000 feet max power are used as spray experimental conditions. Spray visualization was performed by using ND-YAG laser bean PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) was used for measuring the particle diameter and velocity from 20 mm to 100 mm from discharge orifice. From the test result, SMD is $90{\sim}95\;{\mu}m$ 맛 20,000 ft idle condition and SMD is $60{\sim}75\;{\mu}m$ at sea level idle condition. Also SMD is $55{\sim}65\;{\mu}m$ at 20,000 ft max power condition and SMD is $30{\sim}70\;{\mu}m$ at sea level max power condition. In the case of 20,000 ft idle condition, combustion instability could be occurred due to the higher drop diameter. Therefore it is necessary to decrease the droplet diameter in the high altitude condition.

  • The oxidizer-rich preburner is applied to the high efficiency closed cycle rocket propulsion system. This system is generally operated on oxidizer-fuel mixture ratio over than 50. The spray quality and mixing performance are very important for safe combustion of this preburner. This paper presents basic concept and spray characteristic of the preburner injector.

  • The capability of pilot injection with small fuel quantity at all engine operating conditions is one of the main feature of the common rail direct injection system. The purpose of the pilot injection is to lower the engine noise and to reduce the NOx emissions. This study describes the pilot spray structure characteristics of the common-rail diesel injectors with different electric driving characteristics, including solenoid-driven and piezo-driven type. Namely three common-rail injectors with different electric current wave were investigated in this study. The pilot spray characteristics such as spray speed, spray tip penetration, and spray angle were obtained by spray images, which is measured by the back diffusion light illumination method with optical system for high-speed temporal photography. As this research results, it was found that pilot injection of common-rail system was effected by rate of injection with different electrical characteristic for injector driving.

  • The objective of this study is to compare atomization characteristics for differently made an ultrasonic twin-fluid nozzle. A spray system, an ultrasonic system, and three different type(Nozzle type, Tube type. Conventional type)are made and compared experimental and numerical results. In this investigation, the measurement and numerical analysis of spray droplet are to analyze the effects of ultrasonic energy on the agricultural atomization spray system in order to protection of dispersion droplets. It is clarified that ultrasonic energy forcing into a nozzle is valid to obtain atomization enchancement. As the result of comparing the experimental and numerical result, it is confirmed that nozzle type is highest efficiency than that of tube type and conventional type, also well fit, respectively.

  • The objective of this investigation was to obtain an excellent spray at the low injection pressure. When cavitation occurred in the nozzle hole the atomization of the liquid jet enhanced considerably. In this experiments, a acrylic nozzle which was installed the gap and installed the bypass in the nozzle hole was used to enhance the atomization of the liquid jet at the few injection pressure. The liquid flow in the nozzle hole was photographed by a transmitted light using a micro flash. The spray angle was measured by macroscope images of PMAS and the Sauter mean diameter was measured by PDA system. The pressure of the notate hole was measured by pressure transducer. It was found that enhanced atomization of the liquid jet at the low injection pressure was obtained by installing the gap and the bypass at the single hole nozzle.

Development of Holographic Particle Velocimetry System and Its Application to Spray Droplets (홀로그래피 입자속도 측정시스템의 개발과 분무 액적에의 적용)

  • The Holographic Particle Velocimetry system can be a promising optical tool for the measurements of three dimensional particle velocities. In this study, diffused illumination holographic system to measure the sizes and 3D velocities of moving particles based on automatic image processing was developed. First of all basic optical systems for pulse laser recording, continuous laser reconstruction, and image acquisition, were constructed. To determine the position of particles in the optical axis, new three auto-focusing parameters(AEP), namely, Correlation Coefficient, Sharpness Index, and Depth Intensity were introduced and verified. The developed system was applied to spray droplets to validate the capability of the system. Three dimensional positions of particles viewed from two sides were decided using AFP and then 3D velocities of Particles were extracted by particle tracking algorithm. Comparison of measurement results of sizes and 3D velocities of particles with those obtained by laser instrument, PDPA, showed good consistency of the developed holographic system.
