In this study, the PIC design method with machine learning that automatically assigning different stacking sequences according to loading types was applied bumper beam. The input value and labels of the training data for applying machine learning were defined as coordinates and loading types of reference elements that are part of the total elements, respectively. In order to compare the 2D and 3D implementation method, which are methods of representing coordinate value, training data were generated, and machine learning models were trained with each method. The 2D implementation method is divided FE model into each face and generating learning data and training machine learning models accordingly. The 3D implementation method is training one machine learning model by generating training data from the entire finite element model. The hyperparameter were tuned to optimal values through the Bayesian algorithm, and the k-NN classification method showed the highest prediction rate and AUC-ROC among the tuned models. The 3D implementation method revealed higher performance than the 2D implementation method. The loading type data predicted through the machine learning model were mapped to the finite element model and comparatively verified through FE analysis. It was found that 3D implementation PIC bumper beam was superior to 2D implementation and uni-stacking sequence composite bumper.
Bridges across waterways act as interference factors, that reduce the navigable water area from the perspective of navigation safety. To analyze the safety navigational width of ships navigating bridges across waterways, the optimal traffic distribution based on AIS data was investigated, and ships were classified according to size through k-means clustering. As a result of the goodness-of-fit analysis of the clustered data, the lognormal distribution was found to be close to the optimal distribution for Incheon Bridge and Busan Harbor Bridge. Also, the normal distributions for Mokpo Bridge and Machang Bridge were analyzed. Based on the lognormal and normal distribution, the analysis results assumed that the safe passage range of the vessel was 95% of the confidence interval, As a result, regarding the Incheon Bridge, the difference between the normal distribution and the lognormal distribution was the largest, at 64m to 98m. The minimum difference was 10m, which was revealed for Machang Bridge. Accordingly, regarding Incheon Bridge, it was analyzed that it is more appropriate to present a safety width of traffic by assuming a lognormal distribution, rather than suggesting a safety navigation width by assuming a normal distribution. Regarding other bridges, it was analyzed that similar results could be obtained using any of the two distributions, because of the similarity in width between the normal and lognormal distributions. Based on the above results, it is judged that if a safe navigational range is presented, it will contribute to the safe operation of ships as well as the prevention of accidents.
Pile-supported wharf is a structure that can transmit and receive cargo, and it is mainly installed on saturated inclined ground. In the seismic design of these structures, the codes suggest using the response spectrum analysis method as a preliminary design method. However, guideline on modeling method for pile-supported wharf installed in saturated soil is lacking. Therefore, in this study, the dynamic centrifuge model test and response spectrum analysis were performed to evaluate the seismic performance of pile-supported wharf installed into the saturated soil. For the test, some sections (3×3 pile group) among the pile-supported wharf were selected, and they were classified into two model (dry and saturated sand model). Then the response spectrum analysis was performed by using the soil spring method to the test model. As a result of test and analysis, the m om ent difference occurred within a m axim um of 51% in the dry sand m odel and the saturated sand model where liquefaction does not occur, and it was found that the pile moment by depth was properly simulated. Therefore, in the case of these models, it is appropriate to perform the modeling using the Terzaghi (1955) constant of horizontal subgrade reaction (nh)
The agricultural reservoir is a critical water supply system in South Korea, providing approximately 60% of the agricultural water demand. However, the reservoir faces several issues that jeopardize its efficient operation and management. To address this issues, we propose a novel deep-learning-based water level recognition model that uses CCTV image data to accurately estimate water levels in agricultural reservoirs. The model consists of three main parts: (1) dataset construction, (2) image segmentation using the U-Net algorithm, and (3) CCTV-based water level recognition using either CNN or ResNet. The model has been applied to two reservoirs G-reservoir and M-reservoir with observed CCTV image and water level time series data. The results show that the performance of the image segmentation model is superior, while the performance of the water level recognition model varies from 50 to 80% depending on water level classification criteria (i.e., classification guideline) and complexity of image data (i.e., variability of the image pixels). The performance of the model can be improved if more numbers of data can be collected.

Disposal repository for high-level radioactive waste secures its safety by means of engineered and natural barriers. The performance of these barriers should be tested and verified through various aspects in terms of short and/or long-term. KAERI has been conducting various in-situ demonstrations in KURT (KAERI Underground Research Tunnel). After completing previous experiment, a conceptual design of an improved in-situ experiment, i.e. K-COIN (KURT experiment of THMC COupled and INteraction), was established and detailed planning for the experiment is underway. Preliminary characterizations were conducted in KURT for siting a K-COIN test site. 15 boreholes with a depth of about 20 m were drilled in three research galleries in KURT and intact rock specimens were prepared for laboratory tests. Using the specimens, physical measurements, uniaxial compression, indirect tension, and triaxial compression tests were conducted. As a result, specific gravity, porosity, elastic wave velocities, uniaxial compressive strength, Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, Brazilian tensile strength, cohesion, and internal friction angle were estimated. Statistical analyses revealed that there did not exist meaningful differences in intact rock properties according to the drilled sites and the depth. Judging from the uniaxial compressive strength, which is one of the most important properties, all the specimens were classified as very strong rock so that mechanical safety was secured in all the regions.

Image co-registration is the process of overlaying two images of the same scene, one of which represents a reference image, while the other is geometrically transformed to the one. In order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the co-registration approach, the author proposed a pre-qualified area matching algorithm which is composed of feature extraction with canny operator and area matching algorithm with cross correlation coefficient. For refining matching points, outlier detection using studentized residual was used and iteratively removes outliers at the level of three standard deviation. Throughout the pre-qualification and the refining processes, the computation time was significantly improved and the registration accuracy is enhanced. A prototype of the proposed algorithm was implemented and the performance test of 3 Landsat images of Korea. showed: (1) average RMSE error of the approach was 0.435 pixel; (2) the average number of matching points was over 25,573; (3) the average processing time was 4.2 min per image with a regular workstation equipped with a 3 GHz Intel Pentium 4 CPU and 1 Gbytes Ram. The proposed approach achieved robustness, full automation, and time efficiency.

Traffic accidents are caused by several factors such as drivers, vehicles, and road environment. It is necessary to investigate and analyze them in advance to prevent similar and repetitive traffic accidents. Especially, the human factor is most significant element and traffic accidents by drinking-driving caused from human factor have become social problem to be paid attention to. The study analyzes traffic accidents resulting from drinking-driving and the effects of driver's attributes and environmental factors on them. The study is composed as two parts. First, the log-linear model is applied to analyze that accidents by drinking or non-drinking driving associate with road geometry, weather condition and personal characteristics. Probability is tested for drinking-driving accidents relative to non-drinking drive accidents. The study analyzes probability differences between genders, between ages, and between kinds of vehicles through odds multipliers. Second, traffic accidents related to drinking are classified into property damage, minor injury, heavy injury, and death according to their severity. Heavy injury is more serious than minor one and death is more serious than heavy injury. The ordinal regression models are established to find effecting factors on traffic accident severity.
Currently, low and intermediate level radioactive waste is being disposed of at the Gyeongju disposal site for permanent isolation. Since 2006, the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency has been conducting site characteristics surveys continuously verifying changes in the site based on the site monitoring and investigation plan. The hydrogeochemical environment of the disposal site is considered for the evaluation of natural barriers. However, the seawater must be considered because of the regional characteristics of Gyeongju, which is near the East Sea. Therefore, this study, collected 30 samples for deriving the groundwater quality data from seven wells and compared with two seawater samples collected from October 2017 to June 2022. Additionally, the study explores the groundwater monitoring method using statistical tools such as clustering and background concentration analysis. The groundwater samples in the study area were classified into two to four clusters depending on their chemical constituents-especially, EC, HCO3, Na, and Cl-using statistical analysis, molar ratio, and K-means clustering.
Purpose We investigated potentially promising imaging findings and their combinations in the evaluation of cognitive decline. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 138 patients with subjective cognitive impairments, who underwent brain MRI. We classified the same group of patients into Alzheimer's disease (AD) and non-AD groups, based on the neuropsychiatric evaluation. We analyzed imaging findings, including white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), using the Kruskal-Wallis test for group comparison, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis for assessing the diagnostic performance of imaging findings. Results CMBs in the lobar or deep locations demonstrated higher prevalence in the patients with AD compared to those in the non-AD group. The presence of lobar CMBs combined with periventricular WMH (area under the ROC curve [AUC] = 0.702 [95% confidence interval: 0.599-0.806], p < 0.001) showed the highest performance in differentiation of AD from non-AD group. Conclusion Combinations of imaging findings can serve as useful additive diagnostic tools in the assessment of cognitive decline.
In this study, vertical distribution patterns of Quercus mongolica Fisch. ex Ledeb. and Q. serrata Murray in Korea were recognized and possibility of introgressive hybridization and gene flow between Q. mongolica and Q. serrata in Mt. Jiri was inferred by flavonoid analyses. The most critical factor on distribution patterns was the altitude in accordance with temperature condition. A zonal distribution was recognized: Quercus mongolica zone in the upper area and Q. serrata zone in the lower area. In Central Korea, the range of vertical distribution of Q. mongolica was above alt. 100m, almost everywhere, whereas that of Q. serrata was from alt. 0 m to alt. 500(-700) m, and the species is rare above that altitude. But in Southern Korea, Q. serrata is found up to above alt. 1,000 m, whereas frequency of Q. mongolica reduces as elevation in decline and the species is rare below alt. 300 m, even though pure stands being formed on higher mountain slope. Altitudinal distribution of the two species, however, overlaps, where the two species occur together. Thirty-seven individuals of Q. mongolica and Q. serrata in Mt. Jiri and other area were examined for leaf flavonoid constituents. Twenty-three flavonoid compounds were isolated and identified; they were glycosylated derivatives of the flavonols kaempferol, quercetin, isorhamnetin, myricetin, and four compounds among the flavonoid compounds were acylated. Kaempferol 3-O-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-galactoside and its acylated compounds were major constituents and present in all individuals. Quercus mongolica is distinguished from Q. serrata by the presence of quercetin 3-O-arabinosylglucoside and by high concentration of three acylated compounds, acylated kaempferol 3-O-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-galactoside, and by relatively low concentration or lacking of rhamnosyl flavonol compounds. There are intraspecific variations in flavonoid profiles for Q. mongolica and Q. serrata, the flavonoid profiles for individuals of two species in hybrid zone (sympatric zone) tend to be similar to each other, qualitatively and quantitatively. These findings strongly suggest that gene exchange or gene flow occurs through the introgressive hybridization between Q. mongolica and Q. serrata in Mt. Jiri. Therefore, Quercus crispula, occupying morphologically intermediate position between Q. mongolica and Q. serrata, is suspected of being a hybrid taxon of two putative parental species.
