Hydraulic Characteristics of Branching and Merging of Channels in Regenerative Cooling Passage in Liquid Rocket Combustors (채널의 분기 및 병합이 있는 액체로켓 연소기 재생냉각 유로에서의 수력학적 특성)

  • Regenerative cooling passage to guarantee the thermal survivability in high performance rocket engine combustors could have complex configurations of the branching/merging of channels and flow turning, etc. By applying the classical hydraulic coefficients which can be found in the literature according to the flow conditions, hydraulic characteristics in regenerative cooling passages can be obtained effectively through dividing the pressure loss into friction loss and local resistance loss. Satisfactory agreement has been obtained by comparing the present results with experimental measurement of water flow test. In addition, the present results were in good agreement with CFD results when the actual coolant, kerosene was used. Therefore, the application of the present method is expected to be useful to design regeneratively cooled combustors.

  • It is important to reduce computational complexity of de-blocking filter for real-time implementation, because it accounts for a great part of total computational complexity of the decoder. Because there are a lot of conditional branches and memory accesses in a decoding loop, it is not easy to speed up the de-blocking filter. Therefore, this paper presents a new algorithm of de-blocking filter minimizing conditional branches and memory accesses. The proposed structure of de-blocking filter enables filter operation to parallelize by software pipelining. The proposed optimization method was implemented on a TMS320DM6467 EVM board and we achieved approximately 46% cycle reduction, compared with that of FFmpeg.

Energy-aware Instruction Cache Design using Backward Branch Information for Embedded Processors (임베디드 시스템에서 후방 분기 명령어 정보를 이용한 저전력 명령어 캐쉬 설계 기법)

  • Energy efficiency should be considered together with performance when designing embedded processors. This paper proposes a new energy-aware instruction cache design using backward branch information to reduce the energy consumption in an embedded processor, since instruction caches consume a significant fraction of the on-chip energy. Proposed instruction cache is composed of two caches: a large main instruction cache and a small loop instruction cache. Proposed technique enables the selective access between the main instruction cache and the loop instruction cache to reduce the number of accesses to the main instruction cache, leading to good energy efficiency. Analysis results show that the proposed instruction cache reduces the energy consumption by 20% on the average, compared to the traditional instruction cache.

  • In order to create three-dimensional model for human body, a method that reconstructs geometric models from contour lines on cross-section images is commonly used. We can get a set of contour lines by acquiring CT or MR images and segmenting anatomical structures. Previously proposed method divides entire contour line into simply matched regions and clefts. Since long processing time is required for reconstructing cleft regions, its performance might be degraded when manipulating complex data such as cross-sections for human body. In this paper, we propose a fast reconstruction method. It generates a triangle strip with single tiling operation for simple region that does not contain branch structures. If there exist branches in contour lines, it partitions the contour line into several sub-contours by considering the number of vertices and their spatial distribution. We implemented an automatic surface reconstruction system by using our method which reconstructs three-dimensional models for anatomical structures.

  • We presents the architecture of the 2.5 Gbps hybrid PON link which can increase of the transmission distance and link capability, and split ratio by using a colorless DWDM-PON and O/E/O based reach extender into an existing G-PON link. A RSOA based DWDM-PON to apply the feeder fiber can provide a link capacity of 32 larger that of a legacy G-PON. The reach extender converts the wavelength of DWDM-PON to G-PON through GTC frame regeneration at the remote node, and can provide a burst reset signal in order to extract upstream burst signal, simultaneously. The proposed hybrid PON enable a legacy G-PON to operate over the maximum 60 km distance with a 128-way split per WDM wavelength.

  • SAD (Sum of Absolute Difference) algorithm is the most frequently executing routine in motion estimation, which is the most demanding process in motion picture encoding. To enhance the performance of motion picture encoding on a VLIW processor, an optimal implementation of SAD algorithm on VLIW processor should be accomplished. In this paper, we propose an implementation of optimal scheduling of SAD algorithm with conditional branch on a VLIW-based high performance DSP. We first transform the nested loop with conditional branch of SAD algorithm into a single loop with conditional branch which has a large enough loop body to utilize fully the ILP capability of VLIW DSP and has a conditional branch to make the escape from loop to be achieved as soon as possible. And then we apply a modulo scheduling technique to the transformed single loop. We test the proposed implementation on TMS320C6713, and analyze the code size and performance with respect to processing time. Through experiments, it is shown that the SAD implementation proposed in this paper has small code size appropriate for embedded applications, and the H.263 encoder with the proposed SAD implementation performs better than other H.263 encoder with other SAD implementations.

  • The internal circuit of the bus-bar for an electrical switch board is a prime cause of electric shock and short circuit accidents due to the exposure of live parts. Electrical fires can also be caused by animals and foreign substances in the switchboard that connect the components with a difficult structure resulting in overheating due to an increase in contact resistance. Preventing these types of accidents is a prime concern in the manufacturing process, such as cutting and bending. In this study, the cutting bus bar of a switch board contained improved modules as a flame retardant that isolates a separate blocks to prevent such problems. This was implemented as a scalable and flexible means of reducing electrical switchboard hazards to offer a safe switch board bus-bar structure of a new connecter type

Examination on High Vibration and Branch Vent Pipe's Failure of Complex Piping System Suppling Condensate-Water in Power Site (발전소 복수 공급 배관계의 고진동과 분기 배기배관의 절손 규명)

  • A disturbance flow at piping bands and discontinuous regions such as a valve, a header has a intense broadband internal pressure field and a sound field which are propagated through the piping system The fields becomes the source of a vibration of this piping system. Intense broadband disturbance flow at a discontinuous region such as elbows, valves or headers generates an acoustical pulsation. The pulsation becomes the source of structural vibration at the piping system. If it coincides with the natural frequency of the pipe system, excessive vibration results. High-level vibration due to the pressure pulsation affects the reliability of the plant piping system. This paper discusses the high vibration and the branch vent pipe's failure of condensate-water supply piping system due to the effect of acoustical pulsations by flow turbulence from the flow control valves of globe type in a power site.

광시야각 표준화를 선도하는 Advanced FFS 기술

  • 최근 비오이 하이디스에서는 무제한의 광시야각과 시야각에 따른 색변화가 최소화된 선명한 색 특성을 갖는 Advanced FFS(Fringe Field Switching) 기술을 개발하였다. 이 기술은 resin 기술적용(평탄화에 의한 고개구율)없이 종래의 FFS 기술에서 액정의 전기 광특성을 최적화하는 새로운 디자인 룰을 찾아내어 실현하였다. 진보된 화소 개념은 전극의 모서리 구조, 전극 간격/폭, 칼라 필터의 블랙 마트릭스(BM)와 전극 간격등의 key parameters들의 최적화에 의해 달성되었고 액정 셀 내의 모서리와 전기장등이 액정을 미세하게 조정할 수 있도록 있게 된 것이다. 이러한 진보된 설계 개념은 모든 FFS 제품에 반영되어 개발되었다. 뿐만 아니라 12.1" XGA 제품에서 투과율이 22% 증가하고 흑백 대비비(Contrast Ratio)는 33% 증가한 600 : 1의 세계 최고 사양을 갖는 제품을 개발하게 되었다. 특히 태블릿과 노트북용 TFT- LCD 모듈에서 단일 도메인(Single Domain) 모드로도 White상태에서 시야각에 따른 색변화가 0.02 이하의 특성을 갖고 180도/180도의 무제한 시야각을 갖고 있다. Advanced FFS 기술의 브랜드 이름과 슬로건으로 'Viewiz'와 'Vision Magic'을 정하여 마케팅 중이며 세계적인 Top Tier 고객에 제품을 판매 중이고, 2004년 3분기에는 태블릿 시장에서 점유율 70%로 1위를 차지하였다.

A Study on the Stability of Normal Modes and Forced Vibrations in an Elastic System (탄성체의 정규모드 안정성과 강제진동에 관한 연구)

  • The nonlinear behavior of continuous structural systems which possess external resonances as well as internal resonances are found be exhibit interesting reponses, arising because of the exhange of energy between the coupled modes. In this paper, the undamped forced vibrations was studied on the effect of primary resonance based on the concept of normal modes. By using the concept of normal mode the stability relation between free and forced vibrations was investigated in case of small exciting force. Numerical results show that the excitation of one unstable mode has a great influence on the response of the other mode but that of one stable mode does not.
