출판만화 전문 축제인‘제7회 부천국제만화축제(NICOF)’가 10월 14일부터 17일까지 4일간의 흥겨운 만화세상을 열었다. 홍건표부천시장의 개막선포와 함께 막을 연 제7회 부천국제만화축제는 국내 유일한 출판만화 전문 축제로 첫 날부터 어린 아이에서 할머니까지 뜨거운 관심 속에 진행됐다.

11월 6일(토) 부천 중앙공원에서 '동네마다 작은도서관만들기'를 위한 부천시 작은도서관 공동행사'가 열렸다. 현재 부천시는 지역단위 도서관 네트워크 구축과 관련하여 새로운 모델로 주목받고 있다. 앞으로 지방분권이 더욱 가속화되고 도서관 정책과 운영이 지역자치의 일환으로 추진되어야 할 시점에서 이 지역의 실험은 의미가 크다 하겠다. 특별히 작은도서관들의 역할에 대해 새롭게 인식할 필요성이 커지고 있다. 이와 관련해 도서관문화편집실에서는 이번 행사를 주최한 부천지역작은도서관협의회 이진우 총무를 만나보았다.

지난달 14일 서울과 부천에서 동시에 판타스틱영화제가 개막됐다. 부천시 시민회관과 서울 종로구 서울아트시네마는 지하철을 이용하면 1시간 내외 거리에 있었지만 각각 그곳에서 개막식이 진행된 부천국제판타스틱영화제와 리얼판타스틱영화제의 사이에는 넘지 못할 벽이 존재했다. 상황이야 어떻든 영화를 좋아하는 이들에게 다양한 볼거리로 무더운 여름을 잊게 했다.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of spinal mobilization with leg movement (SMWLM) using Korean Medicine treatment on acute lower limb muscle weakness through four case studies. Methods SMWLM, with other Korean Medicine treatments, was performed on four patients who underwent treatment at OOOO Korean Medicine Hospital from August 2017 to July 2018. Additionally, results of the Numerical Rate Scale(NRS), EuroQol-FiveDimensions(EQ-5D),Oswestry lowback pain disability questionnaire(ODI), Straight Leg Raise(SLR) test, and Manual Muscle Test(MMT) were evaluated. Results There was a significant increase in NRS, ODI, and EQ-5D scales with im-rovements of SLR angle and MMT figures to a normal range. Conclusions This study suggested that Korean Medicine treatment combined with SMWLM may affect treating acute lower limb muscle weakness. Further clinical studies are needed to establish a definite conclusion.

Objective: This study was performed to report on the effects of traditional Korean Medicine as a treatment for a patient with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, with lower limb pain as the chief complaint. Methods: We treated this patient with traditional Korean medicine and measured symptom severity using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) as well as measuring the length of the patient's self-exercising time. Results: After about 7 weeks of treatment, most pathological symptoms had decreased. There was a gradual decline in the VAS and a gradual increase in the length of the self-exercising time. Although there was an increase in the ODI scale during the first 2 weeks, it eventually showed a decline in the rest of the period. Conclusions: Traditional Korean medicine can be a solution for the patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease suffering from peripheral neurological symptoms.

Purpose: This study examined the association between smoking and delayed neuropsychological sequelae (DNS) in acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Methods: Patients admitted to the medical center emergency department from March 2016 to March 2017 because of CO poisoning were examined retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups: DNS and Non-DNS group. Multiple factors were analyzed to explain DNS, which was assessed by motor disturbances, cognitive impairment, dysphagia, Parkinson-like syndromes, epilepsy, and emotional lability in CO poisoning. Results: A total of 120 patients were included. The factors related to DNS were smoking (pack-years) (p=0.002) and initial carbon monoxide-hemoglobin level (p=0.015). On the other hand, after multivariate logistic regression analysis, smoking (Odds ratio 1.07; 95% CI, 1.02-1.13; p=0.004) was the only factor associated with DNS. Conclusion: Smoking is a very reliable factor for predicting the occurrence of DNS. A history of smoking in patients who suffer from CO intoxication is important. If a patient smokes, treatment should be started actively and as soon as possible.

Objective: This study was performed to report the changes in symptoms and radiological consequences of a patient diagnosed with spinal neurofibroma and complaining of lower back pain. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with a spinal neurofibroma after MRI examination and was treated with traditional Korean medicine, including traditional Korean medication and acupuncture. We measured the change in symptom severity using a numerical rating scale (NRS) and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). We also used the EQ-5D (EuroQoL-5D) scale to assess the patient's quality of life. In addition, we examined the change in the size of the cyst by MRI twice after discharge: at about 3 months after discharge and at about 8 months after discharge. Results: After about 6 weeks of treatment, most pathological symptoms had decreased. The patient showed a decline in NRS and ODI scores and showed an increase in quality of life. The two MRI examinations after the discharge revealed a decrease in the size of the cyst. Conclusions: Traditional Korean medicine can be a solution for patients with spinal neurofibroma causing neurological pain.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of integrative Korean medicine treatment for patients who were diagnosed as acute fracture on pelvis. The patients were treated by Korean medicine as conservative management including acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medication and cupping for hospitalization periods. Numerical rating scale (NRS), EuroQol-5 dimensions (EQ-5D), Oswestry disability index (ODI), patient global impression of change (PGIC), self-walking distance and the changes of symptoms were measured to assess patients' improvement. NRS, ODI scores and EQ-5D definitely improved on 4 patients of 5 cases. NRS decreased from 6~7 to 3~5, ODI scores decreased from 62~75.11 to 40~52 and EQ-5D increased from 0.013~0.331 to 0.47~0.773. PGIC and self-walking distance were also enhanced after treatments. In conclusion, this study suggests that integrative Korean medicine could be effective treatment for acute pelvic fracture.

This study aims to evaluate the effect of various Korean medicine treatment techniques on knee pain with medial plica syndrome. We treated three knee pain patients with medial plica syndrome using acupuncture, herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture and cupping during their hospitalization. EuroQol-five dimensions (EQ-5D), Western Ontario and Mcmaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), numerical rating scale (NRS) and the changes of symptoms were used for patient assessment. There were notable decreases in WOMAC and NRS and a notable increase in EQ-5D of case 1 and 3. There was also an improvement in the symptoms experienced by the patients. Our study is the first case report to demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment compared to those of the pre-existing surgical and conservative treatments for knee pain patients with medial plica syndrome.
