  • 대부분의 기계장치는 철을 주재료로 하여 만들어진다. 철은 본래 순수 금속으로서는 존재하지 않고 주로 다른 원소와 결합하여 산화물로 존재한다. 철 산화물이나 철광석을 재련하면 순수금속(free metal)이 얻어지는데 성능을 개량하기 위해 소량의 다른 원소를 첨가하게 된다. 그러나 금속철을 철산화물로 되돌리려는 자연의 힘이 막강하여 유용한 금속이 못쓰게 된다. 이는 마치 인간이 철광석에서 유용한 금속을 만들어내는 것을 자연이 다시 환원시켜 인간의 성공에 반항하는 것 같다. 미국에서만 매년 철 종류의 부식에 대처하기 위해 사용되는 물질이 60억달러 이상 소요되는 것으로 추산되고 있으며 철 종류 50톤중 1톤이 매년 산화물인 녹으로 바뀌어 지고 있는 실정이다.

  • 냉각탑(Cooling Tower)은 가열된 물을 냉각, 재순환시켜 냉각수로 재사용하는 일종의 열교환장치로서, 빌딩, 호텔, 병원, 백화점 및 극장 등과 같은 대형건물의 냉동공조시스템에 필수적으로 사용되는 것은 물론이고, 주물공장, 냉동공장 및 석유화학플랜트 등의 중화학공장과 같은 대형공장에도 중요한 Utility설비 중의 하나이다. 이 냉각탑은 각 구성품의 재질은 주로 FRP와 철구조물로 되어있고, 대기 중에서 물 또는 수증기와 직접 접촉하므로 강한 부식성 환경에 노출되어 있다.(중략)

  • 본 연구에서는 강재의 부식 방지를 목적으로 기존의 도장 방식법에 비해 내식성 및 내구성을 향상시키기 위해 아크 용사코팅법을 적용하였다. 실험은 실제 환경을 고려하여 캐비테이션 환경 하에서 다양한 전기화학적 실험을 동시에 병행하여 캐비테이션-부식 복합손상 거동을 분석하고자 하였다.

  • 고분자 전해질 연료전지용 분리판은 가격비와 중량비가 높아 부품 가격 및 중량을 낮출 경우 파급 효과가 높을 것으로 예상된다. 일반적인 금속판들은 연료전지 스택 내의 산성 분위기에서 존재하므로 표면 부식이 쉽게 발행한다. 본 연구에서는 연료전지의 사용환경을 고려하여 금속판의 부식방지 및 표면특성 향상을 위해 그라핀을 코팅하였으며, 연료전지 스택 내부와 유사한 산화성 분위기를 모사하여 전기화학적 특성을 분석하였다.

Study on Corrosion and Structural Performance in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Steel (용융아연도금 철근의 부식 특성 및 구조적 특성에 대한 연구)

  • Steel corrosion is one of the most critical deteriorations in concrete structures due to the problems associated with both durability and structural safety issues. For protection of steel against corrosion problems, researches to improve concrete durability and steel corrosion protection such as rebar coating by hot-dip galvanizing steel have been carried out. This study was performed to quantitatively evaluate anti-corrosion and structural performance of concrete structures reinforced with hot-dip galvanizing steel rebar. Preliminary tests for several metal coatings such as zinc, aluminum, and their alloy (Zn 45% + AL 55%) were performed. After evaluation of corrosive characteristics, Zn was selected for the coating material and the corrosion behaviors in Zn-coated steel were evaluated in various conditions. Furthermore, tensile and adhesive strengths were evaluated for the normal and the hot-dip galvanized steel. The crack patterns and structural behaviors of RC specimens with the normal and coated steel were investigated. Also, corrosion characteristics including corrosion in various coating metal and potential change in metal with notch were evaluated. Structural performances of tensile and adhesive strengths as well as RC beam behavior under flexural/shear loading were evaluated. The test and evaluation results showed that the applicability of hot-dip galvanized steel rebar can be used as corrosion resistant reinforcements for RC structures.

A Study on the Corrosion Prevention of the Integral Series Generator for Military Vehicles (군용차량용 엔진일체형 직렬 발전기 부식 방지에 관한 연구)

  • The military vehicle produces electric power through an engine-integrated serial hybrid generator that is connected to the engine and does not have a separate generator installation space. However, depending on the mechanical characteristics of the connection between the generator and the engine, iron oxide for internal rusting and lubrication grew scattered. The iron oxide is adhered to the starter to deteriorate the starting performance, and there is a problem that the noise of the leg due to wear of the gear is increased. To solve this problem, the connection spline material and the surface treatment of the engine were improved and the shape was changed to a grease sealing type to prevent the generation of iron oxide inside. As the shape of the generator connector composing the shafting system was changed, the integrity of the structure was confirmed through the torsional endurance test. In addition, through the actual vehicle load test, it was verified that no corrosion occurred during the target life span without internal corrosion. It was confirmed that the anti-scattering structure of the grease effectively suppresses the generation of iron oxide, thereby reducing the noise generated from the generator. In this paper, we propose a fundamental solution to the degradation of the starter and the noise generation by preventing the back corrosion caused by the serial hybrid generator installed between the engine and the transmission.

  • As consumption rate of energy increase rapidly, the facilities of fuel storage tank become large size. Almost all of the industry or public facilities storing fuel in underground fuel storage tank is manufactured by steel materials. Thus, this fuel storage tank made of steel materials is damaged by stray-current corrosion, it become destruction. If fuel storage tank is destructed, petroleum, oil and gas are leaked. So it bring about environmental pollution, energy loss, fire and explosion. Therefor, in this study, for study on the prevention of corrosion damage in underground fuel storage tank, it were investigated by corrosion and stray-current corrosion for SS 400 in dry sea sand and wet sea sand along to specific resistance. The main results obtained are as follows : As specific resistance decrease in wet sea sand, corrosion rate per year increase linearly, in case of back fill up wet sea sand in underground fuel storage tank, if the water is flow into dry sea sand, corrosion tendency of underground fuel storage tank is supposed sensitive.

  • Corrosion of steel embedded in concrete is one of the foremost factors that affect the durability of concrete structures in marine environments. This paper presents an application technique of anode-ladder-system to evaluate corrosion behaviours of marine concrete structure. In order to investigate the behaviours quantitatively, the measurement of potential and current was performed on the concrete elements subjected to the penetration and diffusion of chloride ions. The main variable was the heights from seawater level; namely 3.7, 6.0 and 8.2 m. As a result of the monitoring, it was found that the corrosion characteristics differently behaved with the increasing height. Additionally, through migration test, the relationship between compressive strength of concrete and diffusivity of chloride ions was observed. It is suggested, ultimately, that in order to reduce or mitigate steel corrosion, both appropriate concrete cover depth and high-quality of concrete in early ages should be done.

Evaluation of the Corrosion Behavior of the Aluminum Cladding in the KMRR Fuel (KMRR 핵연료 알루미늄 피복재의 부식 거동 평가)

  • For the evaluation of the corrosion behavior of the aluminum cladding in the KMRR(Korea Multipurpose Research Reactor) fuel, a modified Griess correlation was derived by introducing a heat flux factor derived from the comparison of the measured in-reactor corrosion data with the prediction of the Griess correlation. As a design criterion on the corrosion to maintain the KMRR fuel integrity, prevention of the oxide spallation was conservatively selected, which is conservatively assumed to occur when the temperature difference across the oxide layer exceeds 114$^{\circ}C$. A bounding power history of the KMRR fuel was determined by examining all the power histories of the KMRR fuel from cycle 1 to equilibrium cycle, and used to predict the maximum possible corrosion. Results of the corrosion prediction of the KMRR fuel with the bounding power history showed that the maximum local thickness of the oxide layer would be below 50$\mu$m and the design criterion on the oxide spallation would be satisfied with a factor of two margin. Therefore, it can be said that corrosion of the cladding will not impair the integrity of the KMRR fuel. Nevertheless, the applicability of the modified Griess correlation to the KMRR needs to be further verified through the KMRR fuel corrosion surveillance.

A Study on the Durability of Manure Composting Facilities (축분 퇴비화 시설 내구성에 관한 조사연구)

  • Manure compost is a main product from animal wastes in Korea. Solid manure is usually treated by aerobic composting at manure composting facilities for land reinforcement. Agricultural use of manure compost as organic fertilizer resources, mainly manure compost, is now recommended in Korea. This study investigated the evaluation of durability about the manure composting machinery and structures which was controlled by aeration and periodic agitating. The questionnaire addressed three main topics as follows: operating practices, machinery and maintenance of the manure composting facilities are being operated. A total of the 22 manure composting facilities in an agricultural cooperative were surveyed. The results obtained in this survey were summarized as follow: The major causes of manure composting apparatus trouble were corrosion and wear, overloading and foreign matter etc. The highly trouble frequency of the agitator, packer and conveyor were chain, agitating blade and shaft, motor and screw vane, respectively. These analytical results can be used as basic information to establish the maintenance control methods and durability standard of manure composting facility.
