The Relationship between Economic Growth of Sea Port City and Ocean Industries: Focused on Busan Metropolitan City (해항도시의 경제성장과 해양산업 간의 관계 - 부산시를 중심으로 -)

  • This study examines the issue of causality between ocean industries and urban economic growth in the sea port city. To maximize economic advantage of Busan as a sea port city, we first need to analyze the effects of ocean industries on urban economic growth. This study focuses on the examination of the role of ocean industries and its related variations in economic growth at the urban level. Using data from Busan. Metropolitan City in Korea during 1985-2011, we find that the causality link between ocean industries and urban economic growth rates runs in both directions. Especially, industries of shipping/port, marine tourism, and shipbuilding were the most important variables in Busan economy. With this information, the empirical results show that ocean industries and its related variations have significant effects on urban economic growth. Based on these significant research findings, theoretical and practical implications were discussed.

Agglomeration and Decline Factors of the Footwear Industries in Busan Metropolitan Area (부산 신발산업의 집적화와 쇠락 요인: 산업클러스터 모형의 재구성과 적용)

  • This article is focused on the agglomeration and decline factors of the footwear industries in Busan metropolitan area from the industrial cluster point of perspective. For the research, 'the components and network of industrial cluster model' are presented which is restructured of M. Porter's cluster model. Moreover, this research have examined the agglomeration and decline process of the footwear industries in Busan area and conducted a survey targeting footwear enterprises in Busan area. In the late 1980's, the footwear industries in Busan area formed the largest footwear industrial cluster in the world. However, the industrial cluster started to decline from early 1990's and now it is reduced in to 1/10 size of the past. The growth factors of Busan footwear industrial cluster include cheap and plentiful labours, penetration of OEM production, entrepreneur spirit, human resources network, government's support and so on. Moreover, the agglomeration of relative companies also created high competitiveness in this cluster. The decay factors are pointed out sudden rise of labour cost, shortage of factory site, rise of land price, alteration of government policy, international relocation of footwear production and growth of overseas industrial cluster. Busan footwear industrial cluster nowadays has declined in its size, but it is the only footwear industrial cluster in Korea.

The Economic Feasibility Analysis of Busan Central Library Construction - For the Four Candidate Sites - (부산대표도서관 건립의 경제적 타당성 분석 - 4곳의 후보지를 대상으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic feasibility of Busan Regional Central Library. The four candidate sites were included for the analysis. To achieve the purpose of this study, we applied three types of indices such as Benefit-Cost analysis, Net Present Value, and Internal Rate of Return. We used CVM(Contingent Valuation Method) to calculate the benefit; we conducted two investigations to calculate WTP, which are for pretest and for main survey. From results of pretest, we designed five optimal prices. On the basis of them, main survey was accomplished to figure out WTPs for four candidate sites. The results show that four candidate sites were all feasible from an economic point of view. Of these, the Busan Citizen Park site got the highest point of B/C ratio.

  • The global pandemics occurred in 2020 had a great economic impact on the world, and the impact was especially greater on self-employed people who were heavily affected by the floating population and tourism industry. To solve this problem, each country implemented emergency disaster support policies, and it was difficult to select the criteria and scope. The following research carried out two results. First, after analyzing the impact of global pandemics on the local economy, an economical index was defined that could explain the impact intuitively. Second, we propose linear programming methods to provide optimal budget policy using defined indicators, which present economic shock indicators and optimal years that can be considered quickly and easily by the government. Finally, the limitations and implications of the proposed study model are introduced.

  • 본 연구에서는 부분적으로 형성되었거나 형성될 예정인 해상을 통한 남북 물류네트워크를 분석하여 남북교역 및 북방물류프로세스가 원활하고도 안정적으로 이루어질 수 있는 방안을 모색해 보고 해상과 육상을 연계한 북방물류 경로를 비교 검토해 봄으로써 대표적인 북망물류 경로를 활용하여 북방물류를 활성화할 수 있는 방안을 모색해 보았다. 부산-나진 항로 경유 북방물류 네트워크 구축에 있어 동북아 금삼각지구 개발사업을 분석하였으며, 부산-나진 항로를 중심으로 북방물류네트워크 형성하기 위해서는 중국 동북 3성의 환동해권 해륙복합운송망을 형성하고, 나진을 TSR의 기점으로 활용하며, 해상과 육상을 연결하는 남북 물류망을 형성함으로써, 북한을 경유한 북방교역이 확대되도록 한다. 또한 나진항 물동량에 맞추어 나진신항개발계획 검토안을 구상해 보았으며, 동북아시아 물류네트워크를 구축하기 위한 방안은 먼저, 환황해권 물류네트워크를 구축하고 환동해권 물류네트워크를 구축하여 환황해와 환동해 물류네트워크 연계를 통한 동북아시아 물류네트워크를 구축하고 나아가 환태평양 물류네트워크를 구축한다.

A Study on Policy Preference to Specialize in Ship Finance for Busan's Financial Hub Function (부산 금융중심지의 선박금융특화를 위한 정책 선호도 분석)

  • Despite the fact that Korea is ranked No. 1 in shipbuilding industry, it has encountered limitations in providing domestic ship finance. Therefore, there has been an increased demand for expanding ship finance through domestic financial institutions, which has been mostly discussed by political communities. In particular, the city of Busan has shown its keen interest in the vitalization of ship finance and proposed a plan to specialize in ship finance to promote the financial hub function. In this regard, we investigate the preference of Busan city for several effective policy options that can support the ship finance. Our investigation was carried out by opinion leaders of Busan city through AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. Our results show that Busan city has a strong preference for the establishment of a Ship Finance Corporation which provide policy finance with ship industry only. This is different from preferences of the government and ship finance market.
