  • In order to establish B. tabaci control in paprika greenhouses a fixed-precision-level sampling plan was developed. The sampling plan consisted of spatial distribution analysis, a sampling stop line, and decision making. Sampling was conducted simultaneously in two independent greenhouses (GH 1, GH 2). GH 1 and 2 were surveyed every week for 22 consecutive weeks, using 19 sampling locations in GH 1 and 9 sampling locations in GH 2. The plant in both greenhouses were divided into top (180-220 cm from the ground), middle (80-120 cm from the ground) and bottom (30-70 cm from the ground) sections and B. tabaci adults and pupae were observed on three paprika leaves at each position and recorded separately. GH 2 data were used to validate the fixed-precision sampling plan, which was developed using GH 1 data. In this study, spatial distribution analysis was performed using Taylor's power law with the pooled data of the top and bottom position (B. tabaci adults), and the middle and bottom positions (B. tabaci pupae), based on a 1-leaf sampling unit. Decision making was undertaken using the maximum of action threshold in accordance with previously published method, and the value was decided by the price of the plants. Using the results obtained in the greenhouse, simulated validation of the developed sampling plan by RVSP (Resampling Validation for Sampling Plan) indicated a reasonable level of precision.

  • In this paper, a method of removing the space skew and cross-talk cancellation is proposed where the self-generated signals from the subject are used to obtain the subject's location. In the proposed method, the good spatial sound image is maintained even when the listener moves from the sweet spot. Two major parts of the proposed method are as follows: listener position tracking using the stimuli from the subject and removal of the space skew and cross-talk signals. Listener position tracking is achieved by estimation of the time difference of arrival (TDoA). The position of the listener is then computed using the Talyer-series estimation method. The head-related transfer functions (HRTF) are used to remove the space skew and cross-talk signals, where the direction of the HRTF is given by the one estimated from the listener position tracking. The performance evaluation is carried out on the signals from the 100 subjects that are composed of the 50 female and 50 male subjects. The positioning accuracy is achieved by 70%~90%, under the condition that the mean squared positioning error is less than $0.07m^2$. The subjective listening test is also conducted where the 27 out of the 30 subjects are participated. According to the results, 70% of the subjects indicates that the overall quality of the reproduced sound from the proposed method are improved, regardless of the subject's position.

  • Even though rarely recognized as a separate approach, the institutional approach in geography is defined as an attempt to seek an explanation of the phenomena of geographical interest through focusing on the effects of institutional structure and actions. It can provide interdisciplinary links with other works and can offer complementary explanations for geographical interests. The concerns for institutions in geography can be found in early studies, the study of the state, the managerial approach, and the regulation approach. The Korean financial systems can provide good examples to apply institutional concepts into creating spatial outcomes, as it has been regarded as a useful tool to promote Korean economic development. Behind the current spatial pattern of financial systems, four different stages of institutional changes are identified in Korea. Each stage has different institutional features reflecting unique spatial implication.

  • This paper discusses how to get the sums of squares due to treatment factors when Type I Analysis is used by projections for the analysis of data under the assumption of a two-way ANOVA model. The suggested method does not need to calculate the residual sums of squares for the calculation of sums of squares. There-fore, the calculation is easier and faster than classical ANOVA methods. It also discusses how eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the projection matrices can be used to get the calculation of sums of squares. An example is given to illustrate the calculation procedure by projections for unbalanced data.

  • This paper presents online identification algorithm for TSK fuzzy model. The proposed algorithm identify structure of premise part by using distance, and obtain the parameters of the piecewise linear function consisting consequent part by using recursive least square. Only input space was considered in Most researches on structure identification, but input and output space is considered in the proposed algorithm. By doing so, outliers are excluded in clustering effectively. The existing other algorithm has disadvantage that it is sensitive to noise by using data itself as cluster centers. The proposed algorithm is non-sensitive to noise not by using data itself as cluster centers. Model can be obtained through one pass and it is not needed to memorize many data in the proposed algorithm.

  • Industrial clusters and their boundaries are identified by factor and hot spot analyses for the greater Cincinnati metropolitan area in USA. While traditional input-output approach identified aspatial industrial clusters, this study combines traditional approach with GIS techniques to identify their boundaries. Combining the results of input-output industrial clusters with the leading industries groups, we have identified five leading industry clusters. They are food (20), chemicals (28), metal manufacturing (32), metal products (33), and machinery (35). We also used hot spot analysis to visualize each industry cluster on the research area by using Arcview software. Determining the degree to which such industries are associated spatially and their spatial delimitation may be an additional approach to measuring the efficiency of the spatial organization of an economy. It is hoped that the industrial clusters and industrial spatial clusters approaches may also proved the basis for the development of new models of the spatial arrangement of industry at a level more aggregated than that of the single plant or firm.

  • Negative space in the discipline of art defines the space around and between the subject of an image. The use of negative space is an element of artistic composition, since it is occasionally used to artistic effect as the "real" subject of an image. In painting, it is a technique that negatively touches the background of an object to be expressed, so that it gives a feeling of unique texture and silhouette by touching unnecessary parts while leaving necessary parts. As in art, negative space in a design can also be useful to identify an image of infeasible design ranges with a straightforward view. Similarity between two disciplines leads to the introduction of the negative space concept for design space exploration. A rough design space exploration using statistics and visual analytics may support more efficient decision-making, and can provide meaningful insights into the direction of early-phase system design. For this, the approach guarantees dynamic interactions between visualized information and human cognitive systems. Visual analytics is useful to summarize complex and large-scale data. It is useful for identifying feasible design spaces, as well as for avoiding infeasible spaces or highly risky spaces. This paper investigates the possible use of the negative space concept by using an application example.

  • After excavation or blasting, rock properties within an excavation damaged zone can be perpetually weakened on account of stress redistribution or blasting impact. In the present study, the excavation damaged zone is applied to a rock slope. The objective of this research is to compare the mechanical stability of the rock slope depending on the presence of the damaged zone using 2-dimensional modeling and analyze factors affecting factor-of-safety. From the modeling, it was founded that the mechanical stability of the rock slope is significantly dependent on the presence of the damaged zone. In particular, factor-of-safety with a consideration of the damaged zone decreased by approximately 49.4% in comparison with no damaged zone. Factor analysis by fractional factorial design was carried out on factor-of-safety. It showed that the key parameters affecting factor-of-safety are angle of the slope, cohesion, internal friction angle and height.
