A Study on the characteristics of the spherical surface machining in CNC milling (CNC 밀링에 의한 구면 가공시의 가공특성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to suggest the proper cutting conditions of the CNC milling machining for the free-from surface, some experiments were carried out. In experiments, the influence of cutting conditions on the inclined spherical surface were examined by geometrical anlysis. In thos study, the roundness and cutting force were measured to know the effect of several cutting conditions on the machined surface and the cutting characteristics were carefully investigated. As the result, it was appeared that rigidder tool must be used and the cutting speed must be maintained constantlyfor more effective machining. It can be also known from the experiments that the improved machining surface obtained under about 80 degree, but coarse surface obtained over about 80 degree because of the existance of immproper shape of ball-end mill at the extreme portion.

  • High speed machining experiment on the heat-treated mold steel(STAVAX and CALMAX of hardness HRc 53) is carried using TiAlN coated ball endmill. Tool life and wear characteristics under the various machining parameters and cooling methods are investigated. Effect of cooling method on life and wear of the tool was compared. For most cases, tool life was not determined by the amount of wear but by th chipping on the cutting edge. It is found that tool manufacturer's cutting parameters generally agrees with the results of this experiment.

  • In this report, a new method compounding the electrolytic machining with ball end milling process to increase the machining efficiency was introduced. From the experimental result, it was confirmed that effect of cutting force reduction and finer surface roughness can be obtained in a certain condition of ball end milling and electrolytic machining conditions.

  • 본 논문에서는 고속가공 시 필랫(코너-R) 엔드밀의 곡면가공 적용가능 여부를 연구하기 위하여 비교적 곡률이 완만한 곡면을 채택하여 가공실험을 수행하고 고 결과를 분석하였다. 가공재료는 금형의 재료로 많이 사용되는 SKD11 강을 선택하였다. 볼엔드밀과 필렛엔드밀의 비교를 위하여 2 종류의 공구에 동일한 가공조건으로 가공실험 하였다. 가공 중 측정된 절삭력과 가공면의 표면조도를 분석하여 일반적으로 황삭에서 주로 사용되던 필렛엔드밀을 곡률이 완만한 곡면의 정삭에 적용하였을 경우의 절삭특성과 볼엔드밀의 가공특성을 비교하였다.(중략)

  • Ball-end milling process is widely used in the die and mold manufacturing because of suitable for the machining of free-form surface. Pencil cutting can eliminate overload in uncut area caused by large diameter of ball-end mill before finish cutting. As the ball-end mill for pencil cutting is long and thin, it is easily deflected by cutting force. The tool deflection when pencil cutting is one of the main reason of the machining errors on a free-from surface. The purpose of the research is to find out the characteristics of deflected cutter trajectory by eddy-current sensor.

  • An adequate method for the prediction of machining errors is essential to improve productivity and product quality. But it is known that there is a remarkable difference between values calculated by conventional roughness model and measured values of actual machined surfaces under high efficient cutting condition. This paper introduces the theoretical analysis of characteristic lines of cut remainder to evaluate a geometrical surface roughness accurately. In this study, analytic equations of the characteristic lines are derived from the surface generation mechanism of ball end milling considering the actual trochoidal trajectories of cutting edges. The predicted results are compared with the results of conventional roughness model.

  • In this study the runout of spindle is selected as a parameter through which we could measure the machinability of machine and the quality of products. We experimented the effects of runout on surface roughness in high-speed ball-end milling by cutting HP4M workpiece in various cutting condition. It was founs that sunout makes a directive effects on surface roughness and the frequensy type of runout is more or loss similar with that of surface roughness. So the predcition of surface roughness could be possible through measuring the spindle runout.
