고속 안정 운전을 위한 스퀴즈 필름 댐퍼 (Squeeze Film Damper for High Speed Stable Operation)

  • 탄성회전축을 위한 실제적이고 효과적인 댐퍼를 개발하기 위하여 4개의 새로운 스퀴즈 필름 댐퍼들이 실험적으로 연구되었다. 이들 중에서 원통형 부쉬 댐퍼가 가장 효과적인 것으로 선택되었고 볼베어링으로 지지된 실험 회전축에 적용되었다. 이러한 회전축은 위험속도를 지나서 안정된 운전이 관찰되었다.

  • The ball bearing with thin-section raceways which is much lighter than other conventional bearings used in most modem passenger cars and small tracks. The important design parameters of this bearing is the groove radius of raceways, the diametral clearance, the free contact angle and so on. The optimal value of these parameters were determined by considering the dynamic load capacity, the contact angle and the calculated fatigue life. The contact angle between a ball and raceways was calculated by considering the local contact deformation and the structural deformation of thin-section raceways which was estimated by FEM. The raceways were made by means of the press-forming process. The fatigue life tester was designed and manufactured. The fatigue life test was executed and the reliability of this bearing was confirmed.

  • This paper presents the results of the repeated sliding tests to determine the wear-life of TiN coated AISI 52100 bearing balls deposited by PVD method and to show the wear mechanisms of those. The sliding tests were carried out using a ball-on-disk tribometer under ambient conditions. The coefficient of friction, wear volume and the cycles to failures of TiN coated bearing balls were measured with different normal loads and roughness of lower specimens. On the wear-life diagram, the normal loads and the cycles to failure showed the good linear relation on log-log coordinate. With a decreasing normal load, the diagram showed that the wear-limits, at which the coated bearing balls survived more than 4000cycles were under 0.1N of the normal load.

  • Water-lubrication ball bearings are required to install in aqueous medium where water is used as coolant or working fluid. However water-lubricated frictional characteristics of stainless steel ball bearing is not will known compared to oil-lubricated frictional characteristics. Furthermore study on friction at high temperature is rare because bearing maintenance strategy for water-lubricated or chemicals-lubricated bearings of equipment is mostly based on change of failed bearings and parts. Ball bearings and ball screws are used to transmit power in the control rod drive mechanism for an integral reactor and are lubricated with high temperature and high pressure chemically-controlled water. Bearings and power transmitting mechanical elements for a nuclear reactor require high reliability and high performance during estimated lifetime, and their performance should be verified. In this paper, experimental research results of frictional characteristics of water-lubricated ball bearing are reported.

접촉해석을 이용한 볼 베어링의 Shoulder Height 설계 (Design of Shoulder Height for Ball Bearing using Contact Analysis)

  • In this study, the methodology for determination of shoulder height in the internal shape design of ball bearing using 3D contact analysis is proposed. The static analysis of a ball bearing was performed to calculate the distribution of applied contact load and angles among the rolling elements. From each rolling element loads and the contact geometry between ball and inner/outer raceway, 3D contact analyses using influence function are conducted. These methodology is applied to HDD ball bearing. A critical axial load and a critical shoulder height which are not affected by edge are calculated. The proposed methodology may be applied to other rolling element bearing for the purpose of reducing the material cost and improving the efficiency of the bearing design process.

  • In this paper, we theoretically analyzed the NRRO(the non-repeatable run-out) of a ball bearing with geometric imperfection. The quasi-static and dynamic analysis of a ball bearing was performed to calculate the displacement of shaft center caused by the form errors while the shaft is rotating. From consideration of the generating mechanism of NRRO, it is found that the waviness of one ball generates vibrations with nf$\sub$b/${\pm}$f$\sub$c/(where n is odd) components. Also it is confirmed that the outer race waviness of the order n = jZ${\pm}$1 generates vibration with jZf$\sub$c/ components. The form errors of ball bearing elements were precisely measured and NRRO of a ball bearing was calculated using the measured data. It is concluded that the ball bearings must has large ball number and small ball diameter to obtain low NRRO.

  • Recently, vibrational signal processing as a tool of machinery diagnosis has been actively studying. In this study, a new scheme for detection and diagnosis of localized defects in ball bearings, using unwrapped phase spectrum of FFT is described. The characteristic phase spectra for such defects shows linearly varying patterns due to the repetitive impact signals generated by localized defects, i.e., one linear line for single defect and various linearly changing shape according to angle between the two defect located points. The effectiveness of this method is confirmed by computer simulation and experiments on bearing with single or double defects at different locations.

  • RMS, Kurtosis, Crest factor, Probability of exceedance와 Probability density function 등의 통계적 파라미터를 선정하여 베어링의 사용조건과 결함진전에 따른 변화특성을 조사하였다. 이를 위해 4볼 시험기에서 하중, 회전수 및 시간을 변화시키면서 실험하여 진동신호를 수집하고, 이를 A/D변환시킨 후 디지털 필터링하여 주파수 대역별 통계적 파라미터 값을 계산하였다. 실험결과, 하중이나 회전수와 같은 운전조건이 변화하는 경우 RMS의 값은 운전조건 변화에 따라 변하지만 Kurtosis 등의 통계적 파라미터들은 운전조건과 무관하게 steady한 결과를 나타내었다. 또한 통계적 파라미터와 시간과의 상관관계에 대한 실험으로부터 통계적 파라미터들을 결함의 진전 상태를 나타내는 파라미터로 사용할 수 있음을 확인하였으며, 따라서 파손방지를 위한 예측지표로서 이들 통계적 파라미터를 이용할 수 있을것으로 판단되었다.

유한 요소 해석을 통해 계산된 틸팅 패드 베어링의 피봇 강성과 Hertzian 접촉 모델 해석 결과 비교 (Finite Element Analysis of Pivot Stiffness for Tilting Pad Bearings and Comparison to Hertzian Contact Model Calculations)

  • Recent studies emphasize the importance of pivot stiffness in the analysis of tilting pad bearings (TPBs). The present paper develops a finite element model of the pad pivot and compares the predicted pivot stiffness to the results of Hertzian contact model calculations. Specifically, a finite element analysis generates tetrahedral mesh models with ~40,000 nodes for a ball-socket pivot and ~50,000 nodes for a rocker-back pivot. These models assume a frictionless boundary condition in the contact area. Increasing the applied loads on the pad in conjunction with increasing time steps ensures rapid convergence during the nonlinear numerical analysis. Predictions are performed using the developed finite element model for increasing the differential diameters between the pad pivot (or ball) and the bearing housing (or socket). The predictions show that the pivot contact area increases with decreasing differential diameters and increasing applied loads. Further, the maximum deformation occurring at the pivot center increases with increasing differential diameters and increasing applied loads. The pivot stiffness increases nonlinearly with decreasing differential diameters and increasing applied loads. Comparisons of results of the developed finite element model to those of Hertzian contact model calculations assuming a small contact area show that the latter model underestimates the pivot stiffnesses predicted by the finite element models of the ball-socket and rocker-back pivots, particularly for small differential diameters. This result implies the need for cautionduring the design of pivot stiffness by the Hertzian contact model.

  • This paper presents the investigation of two types of rotordynamic modeling issues for 2.2 kW-class, rated speed of 1,800 rpm, squirrel-cage type induction motors. These issues include the lamination structure of rotor cores, and the radial clearance of ball bearings that support the shaft of the motor. Firstly, we focus on identifying the effects of rotor core lamination on the rotordynamic analysis via a 2D prediction model. The influence of lamination is considered as the change in the elastic modulus of the rotor core, which is determined by a modification factor ranging from 0 to 1.0. The analysis results show that the unbalanced response of the rotor-bearing system significantly varies depending on the value of the modification factor. Through modal testing of the system, the modification factor of 0.079 is proven to be appropriate to consider the effects of lamination. Next, we investigate the influence of ball bearing clearance on the rotordynamic analysis by establishing a bearing analysis model based on Hertz's contact theory. The analysis results indicate that negative clearance greatly changes the bearing static behavior. Rotordynamic analysis using predicted bearing stiffness with various clearances from -0.005 mm to 0.010 mm reveals that variations in clearance result in a slight difference in the displacement of the system up to 18.18. Thus, considering lamination in rotordynamic analysis is necessary as it can cause serious analysis errors in unbalanced response. However, considering the effect of the bearing clearance is optional because of its relatively weak impact.
