탄소나노튜브 첨가에 따른 복합나노섬유의 기계적-광학적 특성 변화

  • 나노섬유는 지름이 수십에서 수백 나노미터(1나노미터=10억분의1m)에 불과한 초극세 물질로 비표면적이 매우 크고[1], 제작이 간편하여, 사용되어지는 고분자의 종류에 따라 에너지 환경 의료 관련 분야에서 전극소재 필터재 피복재 인공 피부등 다양한 분야에서의 활용이 가능하여 전 세계적으로 연구개발이 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 그러나 그 자체만으로 응용하기에는 그 기계적 전기적 특성의 한계 때문에 응용의 다양성에 제약을 받고 있다. 그러나 그 자체만으로 응용하기에는 그 기계적 열적 전기적 특성을 가진 탄소나노튜브를 첨가한 복합나노섬유에 의해 그 응용영역의 한계를 넓혀가고 있다.[2] 본 연구에서는 전도성 고분자인 polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)에 multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)를 첨가한 복합나노섬유를 전기방사법(electrospinning method)을 통해서 제조하였다. [2~3] CNTs 첨가농도에 따른 제조된 복합나노섬유의 형상변화와 섬유내의 CNTs 배열상태를 각각 주사전자 현미경(scanning electron microscope: SEM)과 투과전자현미경(transmission electron microscope: TEM)을 이용하여 관찰하였다. 또한, 복합나노섬유의 광학 특성 변화를 CNTs 첨가농도에 따라서 FT-IR과 Raman spectroscopy등을 이용하여 조사하였으며, 나노섬유의 tensile strength의 측정을 통해 CNTs 함량에 따른 기계적 특성 변화를 분석하였다.

Evaluation of Wettability and Interfacial Property of Glass Fiber Reinforced Composite with Different Glass Fiber Conditions via Capillary Effect (Capillary 특성을 활용한 섬유 조건에 따른 유리섬유강화 복합재료의 함침성 및 계면강도 평가)

  • Mechanical properties of fiber reinforced composites were affected to fiber volume fractions (FVF) and interfacial property by sizing agent conditions. An optimum interface can relieve stress concentration by transferring the mechanical stress from the matrix resin to the reinforcements effectively, and thus can result in the performance of the composites. The interfacial properties and wettability between the epoxy resin and glass fiber (GF) were evaluated for different sizing agent conditions and FVFs. The surface energies of epoxy resin and different sizing agent treated GFs were calculated using dynamic and static contact angle measurements. The work of adhesion, Wa was calculated by using surface energies of epoxy matrix and GFs. The wettability was evaluated via the GF tow capillary test. The interfacial shear strength (IFSS) was evaluated by microdroplet pull-out test. Finally, the optimized GFRP manufacturing conditions could be obtained by using wettability and interfacial property.

Effect of Textile Pattern on Mechanical and Impregnation Properties of Glass Fiber/Thermoplastic Composite (유리 섬유/열가소성 복합 재료의 기계적 및 함침 특성에 대한 직물 패턴의 영향)

  • In various industry, the composite is tried to be applied to products and thermoplastic based composite is in the spotlight because this composite can be recycled. The use of continuous fiber thermoplastic (CFT) method increased gradually than long fiber thermoplastic (LFT). In this study, tensile, flexural, and impact test of different array types of glass fiber (GF)/thermoplastic composites were performed to compare with GF array. Impregnation property between GF mat and thermoplastic was determined using computed tomography (CT). At CFT method, thermoplastic film is not wet into GF roving and many voids are appeared into composite. This phenomenon affects to decrease mechanical properties. Plain pattern GF mat was the best mechanical and impregnation properties that distance between two roving was set closely to $100{\mu}m$.

  • Fiber mats were made at five density levels, using fibers from kraft pulp screening rejects, rice straw and a 50/50 mixture of the two. They were soaked in the sulfur compounds. Specimens cut from the composite panels were tested in flexure at time intervals for one year to study the effect of aging. Modulus of elasticity (MOE) and modulus of rupture (MOR) were determined. Under optimum conditions of fiber mat preparation and saturation with molten sulfur and modified sulfur, composites were produced which exhibited mechanical properties comparable to conventional fiberglass in some properties and superior to conventional wood-based composition boards, For example. the moduli of elasticity of the reinforced composites made from pulp screening rejects, with a density of 0.35 gm/$cm^3$, were greater than 1,000,000 psi as compared 800.000 psi for high-density hardboard (1.28 gm/$cm^3$). Modulus of rupture of the best reinforced composites was about 7,000 psi, comparable to 6,000 psi of high-density hardboard.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fiber direction on the polymerization shrinkage of fiber-reinforced composite. The disc-shaped flowable composite specimens (d = 10 mm, h = 2 mm, Aeliteflo A2, Bisco, Inc., IL, USA) with or without glass fiber bundle (X-80821P Glass Fiber, Bisco, Inc., IL, USA) inside were prepared, and the longitudinal and transversal polymerization shrinkage of the specimens on radial plane were measured with strain gages (Linear S-series 350${\Omega}$, CAS, Seoul, Korea). In order to measure the free polymerization shrinkage of the flowable composite itself, the disc-shaped specimens (d = 7 mm, h = 1 mm) without fiber were prepared, and the axial shrinkage was measured with an LVDT (linear variable differential transformer) displacement sensor. The cross-section of the polymerized specimens was observed with a scanning electron microscope to examine the arrangement of the fiber bundle in composite. The mean polymerization shrinkage value of each specimen group was analyzed with ANOVA and Scheffe post-hoc test (${\alpha}$=0.05). The radial polymerization shrinkage of fiber-reinforced composite was decreased in the longitudinal direction of fiber, but increased in the transversal direction of fiber (p<0.05). We can conclude that the polymerization shrinkage of fiber-reinforced composite splint or restoratives is dependent on the direction of fiber.

  • The fiber dispersion performance in fiber-reinforced cementitious composites is a crucial factor with respect to achieving desired mechanical performance. However, evaluation of the fiber dispersion performance in the composite PVA-ECC(Polyvinyl alcohol-Engineered Cementitious Composite) is extremely challenging because of the low contrast of PVA fibers with the cement-based matrix. In the present work, an enhanced fiber detection technique is developed and demonstrated. Using a fluorescence technique on the PVA-ECC, PVA fibers are observed as green dots in the cross-section of the composite. After capturing the fluorescence image with a Charged Couple Device(CCD) camera through a microscope. The fibers are more accurately detected by employing a series of process based on a categorization, watershed segmentation, and morphological reconstruction.

Experimental Investigation on Relationship of Winding Process Variables and Mechanical Properties for Filament Wound Composites (필라멘트와인딩 복합재의 기계적 특성과 와인딩시 공정변수와의 관계에 대한 실험적 고찰)

  • The relationship of the winding process variables and the mechanical properties of filament wound composites is investigated experimentally. The winding process variables considered are the fiber tensions and the fiber ends. The filament wound ring specimens are fabricated using 3-axis controlled filament winding machine. Two types of carbon fibers, TZ-507 and IZ-40, are used as reinforcements and epoxy for filament winding is used as resin. During the winding process, the fiber tensions are varied from 0.5kgf to 3.0kgf, and the number of the fiber ends are varied from 1 to 6. The fiber volume fractions and the void contents for the ring specimens are measured through the resin digestion. The mechanical properties of the ring specimens are also evaluated by the split disk test. The test results show that the winding process variables affect the fiber volume fractions and the void contents of the ring specimens, which result in the variation of the tensile properties of the ring specimens. Therefore, suitable winding process variables should be applied to maximize the structural performance and the productivity for filament wound structures.

  • Vacuum Hot Pressing을 이용하여 제조한 TiNi형상기억섬유 강화 6061 AI기지 복합재료를 제조하고 미세조직 및 기계적 특성 등을 연구하였다. 제조된 복합재의 항복응력은 예비변형량, 섬유체적율 및 열처리에 따라 증가하였다. 복합재의 지적특성은 예비변형이 가하여진 후 재가열되었을 때 기지 내 TiNi 섬유의 형상기억효과에 의한 압축잔류응력 발생에 기인된다. 미세조직 관찰 섬유와 기지 사이에는 AI$_{3}$Ti및 AI$_{3}$Ni의 금속간화합물층이 관찰되었다. 또한 시험온도 증가와 더불어 TiNi섬유강화된 복합재의 유동강도는 높은 값을 나타내었다.

  • It is well known that the interaction and adhesion between the glass fiber (GF) and polymer matrix has a significant effect in determining the properties of fiber-reinforced materials. Therefore, it is one of important considerations to modify the surface of glass fiber with an appropriate sizing. We investigated the treatment method of glass fiber with coupling agent to improve the interaction of the interfacial region. The correlation between interfacial property and interphase microstructure was also examined in an attempt to realize a proper morphology at the glass fiber surfaces.

Rheological Properties of Organic Fiber-Reinforced Thermoplastics (유기섬유 강화 열가소성 복합재료의 유변학적 특성)

  • The fiber reinforced thermoplastics(FRTP) were prepared with polypropylene fiber(PP) as matrix and polyvinyl alchol(VF), aramid(KF) or polyamide fiber(PAF) as the reinforcing materials using the integrated fiber mixing apparatus. The reinforced thermoplastic sheets were prepared by com¬pression molding and their morphology, rheological and mechanical properties were characterized. In the morphological properties of composites, the wettability of the reinforced thermoplastics were decreased in proportion to the content of fibers. At low angular frequency, the viscosity of PAF /PP and VF/PP composite was increased with the content of reinforced fiber. However at high frequency the viscosity of composite reinforced with 5~20wt% fiber, was shown the reduced values which approaches that of the neat matrix. The mechanical properties of the composite were changed with the content of reinforecd fiber, and VF/PP and KF/PP composite had better properties than PAF/PP system.
