The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of various dentin bonding systems on microtensile bond strength of immediate dentin sealing (IDS) and delayed dentin sealing (DDS). Eighteen extracted permanent molars were used in this study. The teeth for DDS group were restored with a provisional restorations, and immersed in saline solution for 1 week, and divided into 3 subgroups according to various dentin bonding adhesives; SB subgroup (3 step total-etch adhesive), SE subgroup (2 step self-etch adhesive), XE subgroup (1 step self-etch adhesive). In IDS group, the teeth were divided into 3 subgroups, and applied with bonding adhesives as in DDS group. The teeth were restored with provisional restorations, and immersed in saline solution for 1 week. Indirect composite disc was cemented with resin cement, and all specimens were subjected to microtensile bond strength. The data were statistically analyzed with oneway ANOVA and Student t-test. The results were as follows: 1. The IDS group showed significantly higher ${\mu}TBS$ than DDS group in 3 step total-etch and 2 step selfetch adhesive (p < 0.05). 2. In IDS and DDS group, 3 step total-etch adhesive showed the highest ${\mu}TBS$ value, followed by 2 step self-etch, and 1 step self-etch adhesive. In IDS group, the ${\mu}TBS$ value for 1 step self-etch adhesive was significantly different from those of the other subgroups (p < 0.05), and in DDS group, there were statistical differences in all subgroup (p < 0.05). 3. Failure modes of tested dentin bonding adhesives were mostly mixed failure and only 1 step self-etch adhesive showed adhesive failure.
This study was done to evaluate whether there were any differences in microleakage of class V composite restorations according to restoration site and cavity size. Total sixty-four restorations were made in molar teeth using Esthet-X. Small ($2\;{\times}\;2\;{\times}\;1.5\;mm$) and large ($4{\times}2{\times}1.5\;mm$) restorations were made at the buccal/lingual surface and the proximal surface each. After 1,000 times of thermocycling ($5^{\circ}\;-\;55^{\circ}C$), resin replica was made and the percentage of marginal gap to the whole periphery of the restoration was estimated from SEM evaluation. Thermocycled tooth was dye penetrated with $50\%$ silver nitrate solution. After imbedding in an auto-curing resin, it was serially ground with a thickness of 0.25 mm. Volumetric microleakage was estimated after reconstructing three dimensionally. Two-way ANOVA and independent T-test for dye volume, Mann-Whitney U test for the percentage of marginal gap, Spearman's rho test for the relationship between two techniques were used, The results were as follows : 1. The site and size of the restoration affected on the microleakage of restoration. Namely, much more leakage was seen in the proximal and the large restorations rather than the buccal/lingual and the small restorations. 2. Close relationship was found between two techniques (Correlation coefficient = 0.614/ P = 0.000). Within the limits of this study, it was noted that proximal and the large restorations leaked more than buccal/lingual and the small restorations. Therefore, it should be strictly recommended large exposure of margins should be avoided by reducing unnecessary tooth reduction.

In clinical dentistry, it is not difficult to meet the permanent first molars with severe coronal caries lesions in children or adolescents. The circumstances surrounding the first molars of children and adolescents are so immature and imperfect compared with those of adults. So we thought it significant to understand the status of these teeth at the moment of endodontic treatment and immediate cause of it. 106 patients with 135 permanent molars necessitating endodontic treatment in childhood and adolescence were included in this study, and the dental records and radiographs were examined. 1. The mean age was 11.9 year (male 11.5, female 12.5) and the result shows significant difference between gender(p<0.05). The mandibular teeth took more than half percentage than maxillary teeth. 2. Of 135 teeth, 45.2 percent of teeth had history of dental treatment previously and 16.3 percent of teeth showed necessity of re-endodontic treatment. 3. Of 73 teeth, 22 teeth had mesial-wall cavity causing endodontic treatment, 39 had occlusal cavity, and 12 had distal cavity.

Intuitively, higher bond strengths should result in less leakage. However, the relationship between bond strengths and microleakage value is complex and not clearly understood. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between tensile bond strengths and microleakage values in the same restorations to understand the behavior of resin bonding to tooth structure. One-hundred and twenty enamel or dentin specimens from freshly extracted bovine mandibular incisors were used. The specimen was treated with 32% phosphoric acid for 15 seconds and rinsed for 20 seconds. the teeth were divided into four groups by means of wet bonding technique or dry bonding. One-Step$^{TM}$ adhesive were applied to the specimen. The specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue solution for 7 days, and tensile bond strength and microleakage were measured. The results were as follows: 1. Significant negative correlation was found between bond strengths and micro leakage values. Hence, higher bond strengths seem to be associated with lower microleakage, and vice versa (r=-0 50, p<0.05). 2. The Enamel/Wet group showed significantly higher bond strength than Enamel/Dry one, and Dentin/Wet group showed higher strength than Dentin/Dry one (p<0.05). 3. Microleakage was significantly less ill wet bonding than in dry one at dentin (p<0.05), however, there was no significant difference between wet and dry bonding at enamel (p>0.05).

The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the remineralizing effects of three glass ionomer cements (high filled glass ionomer cement, compomer, resin modified glass ionomer cement) with resin composite (control group) on incipient interproximal caries, and to assess long-term change of remineralization effect, in each material, evaluated by microtomography. Proximal restoration was simulated with tooth specimen and Glass Ionomer Cements. And each of these groups was placed into a closed container with artificial saliva at $37^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0 for a time period of thirty days with constant circulation. At the end of thirty and sixty days, tomographic images were taken from these specimens with micro CT scanner. Materials used in this study were as follows. Group 1: Fuji IX GP (GC Corp., Tokyo, Japan) Group 2: Vitremer (3M ESPE, St. Paul, Minn., USA) Group 3: F2000 (3M ESPE, St. Paul, Minn., USA) Group 4: Z250 (3M ESPE, St. Paul, Minn., USA) Using density-measuring program, the micro-density of carious lesions on the specimens were measured. The mean density changes of each group were compared to the other groups to evaluate the effect of remineralization. The results were as follows: 1. The lesion density of all groups increased. 2. The mean density increase of Group 1, 2, 3 were higher than that of Group 4 every month(p<0.05). 3. There were significant differences of density increase among glass ionomer group(Group 1, 2, 3).
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress concentration and distribution whether restoring the cavity or not while restoring with metal ceramic crown on tooth with abfraction lesion using finite element analysis. Materials and methods: Maxillary first premolar was selected and made a total of 10 finite element model. Model 1 was natural tooth; Model 2 was tooth with metal ceramic crown restoration which margin was positioned above 2 mm from CEJ; Model 3 was tooth with metal ceramic crown restoration which margin was positioned on CEJ; Model 4 was natural tooth which has abfraction lesion; Model 5 and 6 had abfraction lesion and the other condition was same as model 2 and 3, respectively; Model 7 was natural tooth which had abfraction lesion restored with composite resin; Model 8 and 9 was tooth with metal ceramic crown after restoring on abfraction lesion with composite resin; Model 10 was restored tooth on abfraction lesion with composite resin and metal ceramic crown restoration which margin is positioned on lower border of abfraction lesion. Load A and Load B was also designed. Von Mises value was evaluated on each point. Results: Under load A or load B, on tooth with abfraction lesion, stress was concentrated on the apex of lesion. Under load A or load B, on tooth that abfraction lesion was restored with composite resin, the stress value was reduced on the apex. Conclusion: In case of abfraction lesion was restored with composite resin, the stress was concentrated on the apical border of restored cavity regardless of marginal position. It was favorable to place crown margin on the enamel for restoring with metal ceramic crown.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of distance of light tip to resin surfaces and exposure time on the polymerization of surface and 2 mm subsurface of composite resins cured with two light sources; conventional halogen light (XL 3000, 3M, U.S.A.) and plasma arc light (Flipo, LOKKI, France) and compare the uniformity of polymerization from the center to the periphery of resin surfaces according to polymerization diameter cure with two light sources. From the experiment, the following results were obtained. 1. Difference of relative light intensity decrease in plasma arc light smaller than that of conventional halogen light(p<0.05). 2. In all groups, microhardness of top surfaces was decreased when distance of the light tip to resin surfaces is more than 2mm and increased according to increase of exposure time(p<0.05). 3. Difference of microhardness of the 2mm subsurface was rapidly decreased when distance of light tip to resin surfaces is more than 4mm(except, plasma arc light exposure time of 3 seconds). and the distance of light tip to resin surfaces and exposure time more affected 2mm subsurface rather than top surface(p<0.05). 4. Although exposure time was increased, difference of microhardness of the 2mm subsurface with the distance of light tip to resin surfaces was relatively high in groups between below 4mm and 6 mm(p<0.05). 5. Plasma arc light exposure time of 6 to 9 seconds produced microhardness values and microhardness change according to various distance similar to those produced with 40 to 80 second exposure to a conventional halogen light(p>0.05). 6. In all groups, microhardness was decreased gradually from the center to the periphery of resin surfaces(p<0.05).
Silica nanoparticles for polymeric dental restorative composites were prepared by Stober method, and then the effects of surface treatment of silica particles with Lmethacrylofpropyltrimethofsilane $(\gamma-MPS)$ on the dispersity of the silica particles in the organic matrix was investigated. Particles having various average size were prepared by using controlled amounts of tetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS), water, and catalyst and by changing solvent used for reaction. The site of particles prepared by using methanol as solvent was smaller than that prepared by using ethanol as solvent. In addition, the size of particles was increased by decreasing amounts of water and by increasing amounts of TEOS and catalyst. Hydrophobic silica nanoparticles was prepared by reacting hydrophilic nanoparticles with $\gamma-MPS$ to improve interfacial properties with organic matrix. Amounts of $\gamma-MPS$ per unit mass of the particles was increased by decreasing particle size. even though the amount of $\gamma-MPS$ per specific surface area were nearly the same regardless of the particle size. The dispersity of the silica particles in the organic matrix was improved when the surface treated silica particles were used for preparing the polymeric dental restorative composites.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance to degradation of three commercial compomers in an alkaline solution. Dyract(Dentsply), Elan(Kerr) and F-2000(3M) polyacid modified resin composites(compomers) were used in this study. The resistance to degradation was evaluated on the basis of mass loss(%), degradation $depth({\mu}m)$ and Si, Al, Ba loss(ppm). The results were as follows : 1. The mass loss of each brand was $1.42%{\sim}2.14%$ and there was no statistically significant difference of mass loss among Dyract, F2000 and Elan. 2. The degradation layer depth of each brand was $182.92{\sim}227.7{\mu}m$ and there was no statistically significant difference of degradation layer depth among Dyract, F2000 and Elan. 3. There was statistically significant differences in Si-loss and Al-loss among three compomers (p<0.05). Si loss was the highest value in Dyract and Al loss was the highest value in F2000. 4. There was statistically significant correlation between mass loss and degradation layer depth (r=0.60, p<0.05). 5. In SEM finding, there was some destruction of compomer matrix-filler interface in post-exposure specimen to NaOH solution. As the matrix decreased, the filler particles distinguished and the periphery of the filler particles appeared whitish color due to degradation.

Impacted maxillary canines are the most frequently impacted teeth after the third molars. The exact etiology of impacted maxillary canines is unknown, but several complications may result from impacted maxillary canines. An early detection of ectopically erupting teeth can lead to performing interceptive treatment such as early extraction of primary canine and provide the best long-term results. In the absence of prevention, clinicians should consider orthodontic treatment followed by surgical exposure of the canine to bring it into occlusion. However, in cases when the finding ectopically erupting teeth and severe root resorption of adjacent teeth are found late, malposed canine can replace the injured teeth. In these presented cases, early diagnosis and treatment of ectopic eruption and root resorption were not performed. The maxillary incisor replacement with ectopically erupting canine can be the alternative treatment of choice with successful results. The reconstructed canine is planned to be checked periodically for the condition of composite resin restoration. Orthodontic treatment and dental implant are planned. This report shows that when early diagnosis was not done, maxillary incisor replacement with ectopically erupting canine could prevent uncertain prognosis of the adjacent teeth with root resorption and provide esthetic satisfactory with time saved and cost reduced.
