  • 최근 압력용기, 고압배관, LNG Tank 및 선체등의 구조물 파괴에 대한 안전성을 보증하기 위하여, 구조부재의 표면결함에 대한 균열성장 거동을 파악하는 것이 중요한 과제중에 하나라고 인식되어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 단일 및 복수표면 결함의 피로균열 성장을 바탕으로 표면에서 관통되기까지의 균열성장 수명의 추정등 실질적이고 일반적인 문제들을 해석할려고 시도하였다. 또한, 복수균열 문제에 적용하기 위하여 복수 언더컷의 합체진전현상을 검토하였으며 단일 언더컷과 복수 언더컷의 전파특성이 유사함을 밝혔다.

  • 최근 선박, 해양구조물, 항공기 및 원자력 플랜트 등 대형구조물의 사용조건이 극도로 가혹해짐에 따라 이들에 대한 신뢰성 및 안전성 보장이 심각한 문제로 대두되고 있다. 이들 대형구조물에 있어, 파손사례의 대부분은 어떤 형태로든 피로현상과 관련된 것으로서 수명 및 잔여수명의 예측과 함께 안정성 평가기술의 확립이 절실히 요구되고 있다. 그러나, 실제 대다수의 결함은 복수표면 균열 상태로 존재하며, 이들은 단일균열의 경우와는 달리 급속히 합체, 성장할 가능성이 높고 따라서, 관통수명 또한 짧아지며, 관통시 표면균열의 길이가 상대적으로 커져 불안정 파괴의 위험성도 그만큼 높아지게 된다. 본 연구에서는 평판 및 필릿 용접부에 존재하는 복수의 직렬표면균열을 대상으로 인접균열간 간섭효과, 합체현상을 고찰하여 피로균열 진전거동 및 피로수명 예측프로그램을 개발하고, 이를 기존의 실험결과와 비교, 평가하여 그 정도 및 실용성을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, fatigue tests were carried out to study the behavior of growth and coalescence of multi-surface cracks which were initiated at the semi-circular surface notches, and a simulation program was developed to predict their growth and coalescence behavior. By comparing the experimental result with those of the simulation based on SPC(surface point connection), ASME and BSI(British Standards Institution) conditions, we tried to enhance the reliance and integrity of structures. This shows that the simulation result has utility for fatigue life prediction.

  • A simulation program concerned with multi-surface fatigue cracks which initiated at the semi-circular surface notches has been developed to predict their growth and coalescence behaviors at the elevated temperature. Three kinds of coalescence models such as SPC(surface point connection), ASME and BSI(British Standards Institution) conditions were applied, and the results of the simulation were compared with those of the experiment. This simulation is able to enhance the reliance and integrity of structures especially under the elevated temperature which have lots of difficulties in experiments and applications. This shows that the simulation result has utility for fatigue life prediction. Even though all the specimens were the same shape, the error rate was increased in accordance with the applied stress to the specimen. Among the material constants C and m in the narrow band, the results applied upper values of the band to the simulation has shown quite small error compared with the experiment results.

복수 표면균열의 확률적 특성을 고려한 용접부 피로수명 평가 (Fatigue Life Estimation of Welded Joints considering Statistical Characteristics of Multiple Surface Cracks)

  • Multiple surface crack distributed randomly along a weld toe influences strongly on the fatigue crack propagation life of welded joint. It is investigated by using statistical approaches based on series of systematic experiments. From the statistical results, initial crack numbers and its locations follow the normal distribution, and the probability of initial crack depths and lengths can be described well by tile Weibull distribution. These characteristics are used to calculate the fatigue crack propagation life, in which the mechanisms of mutual interaction and coalescence of the multiple cracks are considered as well as the Mk-factors obtained from a parametric study on the crack depths and lengths. The automatic calculation is achieved by the NESUSS, where the parameters such as the number, location and size of the cracks are all treated as random variables. The random variables are dealt through the Monte-Carlo simulation with sampling random numbers of 2,000. The simulation results show that the multiple cracks lead to much shorter crack propagation life compared with those in single crack situation. The sum of the simulation and tile fatigue crack initiation life derived by the notch strain approach agrees well with the experiments.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop a computational model for predicting the fatigue propagation of collinear multiple surface cracks under constant amplitude and variable amplitude loadings. After examining fatigue crack growth behavior for CT specimens and single surface crack specimens, empirical equations of(11) and(12) are proposed for the prediction of fatigue life in a multiple surface crack geometry. The accuracy of the proposed model is verified using a life prediction computer program. Several case studies were performed to check the accuracy of the proposed model and to verify the usefulness of the developed program. Good agreement is observed between the numerical results based on the proposed model and the published experimental data.

십자형 필렛용접 이음부의 복수균열 진전수명 평가 (Fatigue Life Estimation of Cruciform Welded Joint Considering Multiple Collinear Surface Cracks)

  • Fatigue life of welded joints is governed by the propagation of multiple collinear surface cracks distributed randomly along weld toe. These cracks propagate under the mechanisms of mutual interaction and coalescence of the adjacent two cracks. To estimate the fatigue life, its influences on the above two mechanisms should be taken into account, which appear through the stress intensity factors disturbed mutually. However, it is difficult to calculate the stress intensity factors of the multiple surface cracks located in vicinity of weld toe due to its geometrical complexity. They are calculated normally by using the Μk-factors, but such Mk-factors are very rare in literature. In this study, the Μ$textsc{k}$-factors were obtained from a parametric study on crack length and depth, for which a finite element method is used. A fatigue test for a cruciform welded Joint was conducted and the fatigue life of the tested specimen was estimated using the present method with the informations obtained from the test, such as the number, size, and locations of the cracks. The estimated and measured fatigue life showed a good agreement.

수소취화된 인코넬 718의 VHCF(Very High Cycle Fatigue) 피로특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the VHCF Fatigue Behaviors of Hydrogen Attacked Inconel 718 Alloy)

  • 실온에서 인코넬 718의 UNSM(Ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification)처리재, 수소취화재(100 bar, $300^{\circ}C$에서 120 h) 및 수소취화재의 UNSM처리재의 회전굽힘피로시험에 의해 얻어진 결과, 수소취화재는 미처리재의 S-N곡선보다 피로수명이 약 10~20 % 감소하며 부식피로나 비철재료처럼 피로한도 없이 점진적으로 감소하였다. 표면균열수는 수소취화의 영향으로 평균입경($13{\mu}m$)보다 작은 균열의 비율이 약 80 %를 차지하였다. 결정입계, 표면 흠 등에 수소침투에 의한 취화현상으로 티어링(tearing)하면서 복수로 발생한 작은 표면균열은 불규칙적으로 분포하며 티어링하면서 성장, 합체되어 피로수명이 감소하는 것으로 추정된다. 미처리재에 비해서 UNSM처리재의 피로수명은 전 영역에서 크게 증가하였고, 수소취화된 시험편을 UNSM 처리한 후 피로시험을 실시하면 700 MPa에서 10배 이상, 600 MPa에서 20배 이상 증가하였다.

  • Fatigue crack growth from surface defects is one of the most important subjects for the evaluation and the assurance of safety in pressure vessels, piping systems, LPG/LNG fuel tank and other various structures. This paper attempts to analysis some practical or general problems such as the estimation of crack growth life to penetrate the plate thickness, based on fatigue crack growth a single surface flaw and the interaction of multiple flaws. An experiment on the coalescence of multiple undercuts was carried out under cyclic tension condition as a attempt to the analysis of multiple crack problems. It is noted that the fracture strength is characterized by the analogy to that in a single crack growth.
