  • The conflict of opposing pedestrian traffic-flow in a subway station(made up of stair, passageway, and escalator) diminishes the convenience and mobility of its users. In addition, the station's efficiency would be negatively affected by the growth of delay and queue length in pedestrian facilities. As these phenomena have been resulted by the overlapping in pedestrian's traffic-line, the separation of it would alleviate these problems. For the criteria and methodology of separation, this paper has investigated the bi-directional queue length and delay on the entrance of each facility (stair, passageway and escalator). Since the pedestrian flow exists bidirectionally, we have used the weighted average by inflow rate for the delay value. For the optimization of the separation, the Genetic Algorithm has been utilized in order to minimize the delay.

  • The purposes of this study were to evaluate the effect of normalization by dimensionless number of Hof(1996) and to analysis the gait pattern for 20s Korean males and females. Subjects are selected in accordance with classification system of Korean standard body figure and age. Experimental equipment is the Motion capture system. Subjects who are walked at a self-selected normal walking speed were photographed using the Motion capture system and analyzed using 3D motion analysis method with OrthoTrak, Cortex, Matlab and SPSS for a statistical test. When used to normalize data, there are no differences of statistical significances between gender in all spatiotemporal variables. I concluded that gait research for mutual comparison requires a normalization by dimensionless number to eliminate the effects of the body size and to accurate statistical analysis.

  • We propose a wearable system to help the visually impaired persons for walking safely to destination. If a user selects a destination, the system guides the user to destination with position data from GPS receiver and shortest path algorithm. At the same time, after acquiring complex spatial structures in front of the user with ultrasonic sensors, we categorize them into several predefined patterns, and determine an avoidance direction by estimating the patterns. As a result, visually impaired persons can arrive at destination safely and correctly without others help.

  • In this paper, we proposed a advanced hardware engine architecture for high speed and high detection rate image recognitions. We adopted the HOG-LBP feature extraction algorithm and more parallelized architecture in order to achieve higher detection rate and high throughput. As a simulation result, the designed engine which can search about 90 frames per second detects 97.7% of pedestrians when false positive per window is $10^{-4}$.

  • In this paper, it is proposed to detect and track pedestrian and analyse tracking performance with nighttime CCTV video. The detection is performed by a cascade classifier with Haar-like feature trained with Adaboost algorithm. Tracking pedestrian is performed by a particle filter. As results of experiments, it is introduced that efficient number of particles and the distributions are applied to track pedestrian at the night-time. Performance of detection and tracking is verified with nighttime CCTV video that is obtained at alleys etc.

  • This paper propose a surface EMG signal based gait phase recognition method that selects features and channels adaptively. The proposed method can be used to control powered artificial prosthetic for lower limb amputees and can reduce overhead in real-time pattern recognition by selecting adaptive channels and features in an embedded device. The method can enhance the classification accuracy by adaptively selecting channels and features based on sensitivity and specificity of each subject because EMG signal patterns may vary according to subject's locomotion convention. In the experiments, we found that the muscles with highest recognition rate are different between human subjects. The results also show that the average accuracy of the proposed method is about 91% whereas those of existing methods using all channels and/or features is about 50%. Therefore we assure that sEMG signal based gait phase recognition using small number of adaptive muscles and corresponding features can be applied to control powered artificial prosthetic for lower limb amputees.

  • In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based person re-identification method using a three-dimensional RGB-Depth Xtion2 camera considering joint coordinates and dynamic features(velocity, acceleration). The main idea of the proposed identification methodology is to easily extract gait data such as joint coordinates, dynamic features with an RGB-D camera and automatically identify gait patterns through a self-designed one-dimensional convolutional neural network classifier(1D-ConvNet). The accuracy was measured based on the F1 Score, and the influence was measured by comparing the accuracy with the classifier model (JC) that did not consider dynamic characteristics. As a result, our proposed classifier model in the case of considering the dynamic characteristics(JCSpeed) showed about 8% higher F1-Score than JC.

  • This paper proposes the on-road object detection and classification algorithm by using a detection system consisting of only laser scanners. Each sensor data acquired by the laser scanner is fused with a grid map and the measurement error and spot spaces are corrected using a labeling method and dilation operation. Fuzzy method which uses the object information (length, width) as input parameters can classify the objects such as a pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle. In this way, the accuracy of the detection system is increased. Through experiments for some scenarios in the real road environment, the performance of the proposed detection and classification system for the actual objects is demonstrated through the comparison with the actual information acquired by GPS-RTK.

  • Purpose: When a serious disaster occurred in East Japan on March 11, 2011, some evacuees in shock failed to avoid danger to the best of their ability. Why did they hesitate and waste their time? And why didn't they choose correct escaping routes? This study attempts to classify human behavior through psychological point of view and cognitive science and to interpret behavioral patterns based on animal behaviors from the field of biology. Method: This study first conceptually categorized walking behavior into intellectualization, automaticity and instinct based on the existing literature and matched these with empirical data. Result: The actual walking patterns observed failed to be compatible with these categories and consequently, this study suggests the following five categories: normal, busy, fast & straight, freezing and tizzy. This new classification of walking behavior is based on speed, variation of speed and change of direction. Conclusion: The method used in this study and the results can be applied to simulations of walking behavior and analysis of behavior in emergency situations.

  • Nowadays, the Korean society is full of multiculturalism as there are many foreign ethnic enclaves. Many Chinese quarters are built in various parts of Korea along with the increasing population of Chinese immigrant. Especially, the Chinese quarter has shown the sign of time and the cultural characteristic of the local residents. This research is to study the market space of Chinese ethnic enclaves in Dairimdong. This research method is the field study to use a participant observation. Below are the research results: Chinese merchants put a private object such as "tanzi" on a sidewalk and install large awning covered full of sidewalk. Sidewalk transform from an outdoor space into an internal space because of Chinese merchants. Passers-by move to use vehicle roads and transform not only the car's space but also the passers-by space. Urban planners originally classify space into three categories, which are building - sidewalk - vehicles road. However, after Chinese came to the market, Chinese classified space into new three categories which is building - space for both sidewalk and "tanzi" - space for both sidewalk and vehicles road. New classification of space is quite different from the previous. In addition, Chinese thinks that the Dairimdong's Market is a very comfortable place. Because Dairimdong Market have many Chinese physical facilities. Next, Chinese thinks that the Dairimdong Market is a very friendly place to buy Chinese products easily. This market has become a place of consumption for the Chinese. Eventually, Dairimdong's Market has changed because of Chinese immigrants. It is possible to make satisfactory planning and design proposal to build Chinese quarters in the future through the explanation of space and status by way of culture. There are many careless mistakes in previous subjective planning and design proposal of the designers. Thus, it should consider the problems created by their way of use in later planning and design.
