In this research, a wireless movable systems is introduced that is applicable for real-world clinical examination in order to resolve the inconvenience of wired motion analysis system which uses markers by measuring more accurately the angle of the 3D motion. The system is composed of bluetooth data transmission and 6 DOF inertial measurement system that is composed of 3-axis acceleration and 3-axis gyroscope. The samples were collected from 10 feet of 5 young children who were confirmed as patients having flat feet and achilles tendonitis by podiatric expert in pediatrics, and the validity of the system was evaluated by comparison with the opinion by the expert using the EMG data and the data measured by the developed system. ROM of ankle was measured by the difference between the maximum and the minimum peaks of 3-axis values (pitch, roll and yaw) measured at lateral malleolus bone, and based on this measured value, the eversion rate became relatively higher as flat feet state become worse, which is equivalent to the opinion from the podiatric experts. It was shown that there is a relation between the certain muscle activities and the abnormal motion of foot caused by disease.
Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of arthroscopic direct cystic removal of popliteal cyst using 70 degree arthroscopy and posteromedial portal. Materials and Methods: From January 2003 to January 2004, 21 patients(23 cases) with popliteal cyst have been treated by direct cystic decompression with arthroscopy. The average age of the 21 patients was 54 years(range 35 to 78 years). There were 5 males and 16 females. Of the 23 cases,8 cases were occured in right side and 11 cases were occured in left side. 4 cases were both sides. In all cases, preoperative MRI were performed to detect combined intraarticular pathology. At 6 months and 1 year postoperatively, follow-up ultrasonography were performed to detect recurrence of cyst. We used Rauschning and Lindgren criteria for clinical evaluation. Results: All cases had no recurrence and no complaints of pain, swelling, or functional impairment at 1 year after surgery. At ultrasonography, no recurrence were founded. One complication was occurred. Postoperatively, Rauschning and Lindgren criteria were more than grade 1. Conclusion: Arthroscopic direct cystic removal using arthroscopy and posteromedial portal is an effective method in popliteal cyst surgery.

The purpose of this study was to identify the validity, reliability, and discriminative index of the Korean version of Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI). For this, two hundreds twenty-thee stroke patients participated. Activities of daily living were measured through using K-MBI. Factor analysis was performed for identifying the construct validity and internal consistent and discriminative index were calculated. The result of factor analysis was that the 10 items of K-MBI have communality above .50, and was constructed one factor. Explained variance was 72.184%. The order of factor loading value was toileting, personal hygiene, transfer from bed to chair and back, ambulation/wheelchair, dressing, feeding, bowel control, bathing, bladder control, and stair climbing. Cronbach ${\alpha}$ of K-MBI was .994. The range of discriminative index was .783~.909, and was acceptable. One factor of K-MBI was identified through factor analysis, and reliability and discriminative index was also identified. Various psychometric properties of K-MBI should be investigated in further studies for valid assessment of activities of daily living in stroke patients.
An assessment of the subtalar joint in cerebral palsies can contribute to predict the function of ambulation in CP children. Ambulation is one of the most important function to guarantee the CP children independent life. This paper is to investigate some relationships between the function of standing and walling and the assessment of the subtalar joint in children with Cerebral palsy. And also to present the correlation between the ambulation and the Gross Motor Function Measures in children with cerebral palsy. Sixty-eight children with cerebral palsy were participated in this study. Evaluations of the subtalar pint parameters were performed by the goniometer and the angle finder, and the GMFM scores were measured by their teacher and researcher trained technically. A regression analysis was applied to figure out the relationship between the subtalar pint parameters(ROM and RCSP) and the function of standing and walking. A correlation analysis was employed to see how much the subtalar pint parameters could be predicted from GMFM scores in walling and standing. The results were as follows: 1) The significant differences were not observed between the total ROM, RCSP and the function of standing(F=8.065, p<.001) and walking(F=6.511, p<.001) in CP children. 2) The subtalar pint parameters(total ROM, RCSP) have the lower relevance to the function of standing and walling in CP children.(p>.05) 3) The total ROM and RCSP in both feet have the significant differences between the CP children and the normal children.(p<.001) 4) The GMFM scores were significantly correlated with the function of walling and standing in CP children.(r=247, p<.05) In this research, it is found that the significant relevance between the quantitative analysis of subtalar pint in children with cerebral palsy and the gross motor function of ambulation in standing and walling. However, it is difficult to predict the direct relationship of subtalar pint parameters and the function of ambulation, because subtalar pint scores and GMFM are only measured as quantities not qualities. Therefore, it is more reasonable to investigate the influence of subtalar pint parameters on ambulation in children with cerebral palsies, adding to the multifocal assessment of the children, rather than vice versa.
This study is to look into the effectiveness of fall-preventive occupational therapy of elderly by clarifying the influence of occupational therapy applied to female elderly in the community upon balance ability. A 6-week occupational therapy program including both training and exercise for prevention of fall down was applied by dividing into 13 persons of experimental group and 13 persons of control group for female elderly aged more than 65 years who were capable of independence gait and have not taken any drug to adversely affect balance. For balance ability assessment, the Berg balance scale and the Tetrax fall index were used. The Berg balance scale in experimental group was shown to be 48.38 to 50.69 through the 6-week program, indicating changes in significance level(p=.017). The Tetrax fall index in experimental group was shown to be 46.77 to 35.54 through the 6-week program(p=.000). Changes in significance level were not found for both the Berg balance scale and the Tetrax fall index in control group. As seen from the results of this study, it is found that 6-week application of the fall-preventive occupational therapy program including fall prevention training and exercise was effective for promotion of elderly's balance ability, and further studies just on the effect of fall prevention training are required to be made.
The gait instability in the elderly has been associated with age-related deterioration in physical strength and reducing the potential for elderly falls requires regular exercise. In 2005, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control(NCIPC) reported that most elderly falls occur during activities in daily living(ADL). To better reveal biomechanic mechanisms underlying age-related degeneration in gait stability, and to enhance the assessment of falls risk, an accurate quantification of a person's balance maintenance during locomotion is needed. Instantaneous orientation of the line connecting COP and COM can characterize whole body position with respect to the supporting foot during gait and the angle between this line and the vertical line passing through the COP known as a good assessment to detect the elderly gait instability. Therefore the purpose of this study was to investigate a 6-month walking exercise effects in reducing elderly fall risk factors by using COP-COM inclination angles. Twenty-two community-dwelling elderly participated this study. The participants performed a walking exercise(3 times/week, 1 hour/visit) for 6 months. Laboratory kinematics during walking was assessed at months 0, 3 and 6. Significant increased in gait velocity was found among periods(p=.011, $1.25{\pm}.03$, $1.32{\pm}.03$, and $1.39{\pm}.04\;m/s$ in 0-, 3-, and 6-month, respectively). Also, significant differences in anterior and posteriror inclination angles were found among the periods(p<.05; posterior inclination angles: $12.8{\pm}2.2$, $11.0{\pm}2.9$, & $10.9{\pm}1.9$; anterior inclination angles: $13.7{\pm}1.7$, $14.6{\pm}3.2$, & $1.46{\pm}.21$ in 0month, 3month, & 6month, respectively). These findings provide evidence of significant reduced fall risk factors of community-living older adults associated with a systematic walking program.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of insole-equipped ankle-foot-orthoses (AFO) on gait. 10 healthy males who had no history of injury in the lower extremity participated in this study as the subjects. The foot of each subject was first scanned, and the insole fit to the plantar was made using BDI-PCO(Pedcad Gmbh, Germany). The subject then was made to walk on a treadmill under four experimental conditions: 1) normal walking, 2) walking wearing AFO, 3) walking wearing AFO equipped with the insole, 4) walking wearing pneumatic-ankle-foot-orthosis (pAFO) equipped with the insole. During walking, foot pressure data such as maximum force, contacting area, peak pressure, and mean pressure was collected using Pedar-X system (Novel Gmbh, Germany) and EMG activity of lower limb muscles such as gastrocnemius medial head, gastrocnemius lateral head, and soleus was recorded using MP150 EMG module (BIOPAC System Inc., USA). Collected data was then analyzed using paired t-test in order to investigate the effects of the insole. As a result of the analysis, when insole was equipped, overall contacting area was increased while both the highest peak pressure and the mean pressure were significantly decreased, and EMG activity of the lower limb muscles was decreased. On the contrary, the cases of wearing AFO showed the decreased contacting area and the increased pressures. Therefore, the AFO equipped with a proper insole fit well to the foot can help comfortable walking by spreading the pressure over the entire plantar.

With the recent development of IT technology, research and interest in various biosignal measuring devices is increasing. As an aging society is in full swing, research on the elderly population using IT-related technologies is continuously developing. This study is about the development of life pattern detection and fall detection algorithm, which is one of the medical service areas for the elderly, who are rapidly developing as they enter a super-aged society. This study consisted of a system using a 3-axis accelerometer and an electrocardiogram sensor, collected data, and then analyzed the data. It was confirmed that behavioral patterns could be classified from the actual research results. In order to evaluate the usefulness of the human activity monitoring system implemented in this study, experiments were performed under various conditions, such as changes in posture and walking speed, and signal magnitude range and signal vector magnitude parameters reflecting the acceleration of gravity of the human body and the degree of human activity. was extracted. And the possibility of discrimination according to the condition of the subject was examined by these parameter values.

Introduction: Central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) is a rare neurological disorder marked by symmetric nerve fiber damage, commonly following rapid hyponatremia correction, with no established treatment and a poor prognosis. The condition, often linked to alcoholism, malnutrition, and various diseases, lacks comprehensive studies on its impact on gait. This research aims to quantitatively analyze gait changes in CPM patients receiving both traditional Korean and conventional rehabilitation treatments, addressing a gap in current understanding of CPM management. Case presentation: A 56-year-old male diagnosed with CPM following an initial misdiagnosis underwent combined electoracupuncture and rehabilitative treatment at ○○ university Korean medical center, resulting in significant gait improvements. A treadmill gait analysis system was used to measure changes in key gait parameters at 2-week intervals, and the patient's progress was documented. Conclusions: The quantitative analysis revealed significant gait improvements. Foot rotation decreased from 8.9° to 6.4° (right) and from 11.1° to 7.2° (left); lateral symmetry improved from -7.8 to 0.8; step length increased from 21 cm to 44 cm (right) and from 19 cm to 44 cm (left); and velocity increased from 1.2 m/s to 2.7 m/s. These findings highlight decreased foot rotation and lateral symmetry, along with increased step length and velocity, suggesting a positive outcome of the treatment regimen. Notably, the patient experienced no adverse effects related to the treatments. Despite limitations, including the singe case focus and lack of prior gait-focused CPM research, this case report provides valuable insights into effective CPM management strategies, paving the way for future research in this domain.

Recently, having neighborhood parks within walking distance has grown in importance. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of user satisfaction with neighborhood parks within walking distance considering interior and exterior environments. To do so, a field survey and GIS were conducted to construct data which were then compared with result of the analysed environment. Finally, amultiple regression analysis was conducted to confirm impact on user satisfaction of environment. By summarizing the study results, it was found that users of Hwarang Park exhibited a high level of satisfaction with 'park facilities' and 'safety of park use'. In the case of Gwanum Park, users exhibited a high level of satisfaction with 'green space' and 'amount of shade'. On the contrary, two park users exhibited low levels of satisfaction with 'facilities for children' and 'various attractions' within the parks. The pedestrian environment of Hwarang Park was rated higher than Gwanum Park within the park service area. User satisfaction was also rated higher than for Gwanum Park. However, two park users exhibited low levels of satisfaction with 'various attractions' within the pedestrian environment. From the result regression analysis of the total satisfaction factors, 'environment of access route', 'park facilities' and 'space for walking' positively influenced park use satisfaction. It was found that improvement of the pedestrian environment would be more effective than the improvement of the internal environment on Hwarang Park. This study investigated correlation with the access road environment as well as the interior environment of the parks. The results of this research will be used to improve accessibility and availability for neighborhood parks within walking distance.
