  • The auxiliary reinforcement method is normally applied to prevent a possible collapse of the tunnel face where the ground condition is not favorable or geologic information is not sufficient. Recently, several engineering approaches have been made to choose the effective reinforcement methods using expert system such as neural network and fuzzy theory field, among others. Even if the expert system has offered many decision aid tools to properly select the reinforcement method, the quantitative assessment items are not easy to estimate and this is why the data mining technique, widely used in the field of social science, medical treatment, banking and agriculture, is introduced in this study. Using decision tree together with PDA, the decision aids for reinforcement method based on field construction data are created to derive the field rules and future study will be concentrated on the application of the proposed methods in a variety of underground development cases.

  • This study reviewed the use of soil injection materials using circulating resources as injection materials for the steel pipe multi-stage construction method. The tests performed were homogel time and homogel compressive strength. The steel pipe multi-stage construction method is an auxiliary construction method for tunnels, and the expression of initial strength after construction is an important factor. The better the strength development in the initial stage, the more it can be used as an injection material suitable for the multi-stage steel pipe construction method. As a result of laboratory test, it was found that the homogel time of the injection material using circulating resources required more time than the mixing ratio using cement as the injection material. In addition, it was found that the initial strength curing time satisfying 2MPa was required for more than 24 hours. Therefore, it was confirmed that the injection material using recycled resources required a longer initial curing time than cement of the same mixing ratio.

  • This study is about the reinforcing type of reinforcement method which is reinforced in tunnel portal of tunnel with bad ground condition. Generally, it is known that the horizontal reinforcement method is more effective than the conventional reinforcement method. However, as a limitation of the tunnel construction technology, it is being constructed by the superposition reinforcement method. In recent years, high-strength large-diameter steel pipes and horizontally oriented longitudes (L = 30.0~50.0 m) construction technology have been developed. Therefore, it is required to study reinforcement method of tunnel portal reinforcement method. Therefore, 3-D numerical analysis (Midas GTS NX 3D) was performed by setting the reinforcement method (No reinforcement type, overlap reinforcement type and horizontal reinforcement type) and ground condition as parameters. As a result, it was considered that the reinforcement effect was the largest as the horizontal reinforcement type of the reinforcement method was the smallest in the displacement and the support material stress. Based on the results of the numerical analysis, horizontal steel pipe grouting was applied to the actual tunnel site. The displacement of the tunnel portal and the stress of the support material occurred within the allowable values and were considered to ensure sufficient stability.

  • In this paper, review was made for the excavation method and optimum bench length for unstable tunnel face in case of rock classification type V in order to make the best use of in-situ bearing capacity. 3D FEM analyses were performed to investigate the influences on the tunnel face and adjacent area with regard to the pattern and number of bolts when face bolts were used as a supplementary measure. As a result of this study, full section excavation method with sub-bench is effective in reducing the displacement greatly due to early section closure. Displacement-resistant effects in accordance with the bolting patterns are grid type, zig-zag type and then circular type in order of their effect. And horizontal extrusion displacement of tunnel face reduces as the number of bolts increase. A grid type face bolt covering $1.5m^2$ of tunnel face could secure the face stability in case of full section excavation method with sub-bench.
