  • Existent wood wool cement boards are low-quality cement boards made out of wood chip wastes. Recently, however, they are produced by making wood chips into fibrous forms to have good looks and excellent performances in sound absorption and thermal insulation. Though they have been broadly used in the advanced countries, they were rather expensive products with limited use in Korea having no domestic manufacturers of them. Since 2005, however, it has been possible for the boards to be used in various fields due to their lowered prices and stable supplies by the arrival of domestic manufacturers. For the purpose of encouraging broad use of the boards, this research aims to explore their practical applications by way of assessing the flame retardant and fire resistant performances when they are applied to dry-wall system.

  • A shared whiteboard provides a drawing workplace that can be shared with peoples in real time. Since it supports rich drawing mechanisms for collaboration or communication, it is used as an effective tool in group work such as virtual meeting. In this paper, we present an XMPP client application named SyncNote that supports the shared whiteboard facility. For this, we propose an extension of the open standard communication protocol XMPP to provide the shared whiteboard facility. The SyncNote application runs on the Android platform, providing effective communication through sharing the drawings and images created by a group of users.

  • Business Intelligence(BI) is being used by the individuals who make decisions for management. Dashboard supports business intelligence by visualizing data, information, and knowledge so that they can be grasped at a glance. In this study, applications of dashboard were analyzed in the ARL libraries websites. Furthermore, the study suggested methods to establish and use the information system of the business intelligence and dashboard on the academic library websites in Korea. The findings of this study are expected to serve as the basic data to utilize the business intelligence and dashboard as a tool with which Korean academic libraries can demonstrate their value to the stakeholders in the academic community.

  • Particleboards (PBs) were made from Pinus densiflora thinning particle with urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin added casein and soybean as extender. The performance test results of the PB made showed that Pinus densiflora thinning log was suitable raw material for PB. As the extender addition in the UF resin was increased, the mechanical performance of the PB, bonded with the extended UF resin, were significantly decreased. However, casein and soybean can be used up to 15% and 20% of the UF resin solids respectively.

  • The properties of new porous carbon materials "Woodceramics" are affected by the characteristics of raw boards. To investigate of density profile and resin contents in impregnated boards, control board and 3 types of steam-injected boards were made by steam injection time, The wood species used for manufacturing boards was Sugi(Cryptomeria japonica). The results are as follows: 1) The density gradient of board after 10 minutes steam injection was the smallest and non-steamed board was largest. 2) The resin content and dimensional rise decreased with increase of board density, and were the largest in board after 10minutes steam injection but there was little difference between boards after 5 and 10 minutes steam injection.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of a belly-board device (BBD) in reducing the volume of small bowel during four-field pelvic irradiation. Materials and Methods: Twenty-two cancer patients (14 uterine cervical cancer, 6 rectal cancer, and 2 endometrial cancer) scheduled to receive pelvic irradiation were selected for this study. Two sets of CT images were taken with and without the belly-board device using the Siemens 16 channel CT scanner. All patients were set in the prone position. The CT images were transferred to a treatment planning system for dose calculation and volume measurements. The external surfaces of small bowel and the bladder were contoured on all CT scans and the 4-pelvic fields were added. The dose-volume-histogram of the bladder and small bowel, with and without the BBD, were plotted and analyzed. Results: In all patients, the total small bowel volume included in the irradiated fields was reduced when the BBD was used. The mean volume reduction was 35% (range, $1{\sim}79%$) and was statistically significant (p<0.001). The reduction in small bowel volume receiving $10{\sim}100%$ of the prescribed dose was statistically significant when the BBD was used in all cases. Almost no change in the total bladder volume involved was observed in the field (<8 cc, p=0.762). However, the bladder volume receiving 90% of the prescribed dose was 100% in 15/22 patients (68%) and $90{\sim}99%$ in 7/22 patients (32%) with the BBD. In comparison, the bladder volume receiving 90% of the prescribed dose was 100% in 10/22 patients (45%), $90{\sim}99%$ in 7/22 patients (32%), and $80{\sim}89%$ in 5/22 patients (23%) without the BBD. When the BBD was used, an increase in the bladder volume receiving a high dose range was observed Conclusion: This study shows that the use of a BBD for the treatment of cancer in the pelvic area significantly improves small bowel sparing. However, since the BBD pushed the bladder into the treatment field, the bladder volume receiving the high dose could increase. Therefore it is recommended to be considerate in using the BBD when bladder damage is of concern.
