Flexural Crack for Fiber-Reinforced-Polymer Reinforced Concrete Beams (GFRP 보강근 콘크리트 보의 휨균열)

  • The use of FRP(Fiber Reinforced Polymer) bars to replace conventional steel bars in reinforcing concrete structures is currently encouraged by many structural engineers, especially for their noncorrosive properties. The partial inferiority of the bond and mechanical properties for FRP bars, however, leads to wider and deeper cracks compared with those of steel reinforced concrete structures. This paper presents experimental results of concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars tested under static loading conditions up to failure. The study focuses on the effects of the reinforcement ratio on the behavior of concrete beams at various stages during loading. The study also attempts to establish a theoretical basis for the development of simple and rational design procedures for concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars.

Global Stability of Geosynthetic Reinforced Segmental Retaining Walls in Tiered Configuration (계단식 블록식 보강토 옹벽의 전체 안전성)

  • This paper presents the global stability of geosynthetic reinforced segmental retaining walls in tiered configuration. Four design cases of walls with different geometries and offset distances were analyzed based on the FHWA and NCMA design guidelines and the discrepancies between the different guidelines were identified. A series of global slope stability analyses were conducted using the limit-equilibrium analysis and the continuum mechanics based shear strength reduction method with the aim of identifying failure patterns and the associated factors of safety. The results indicated among other things that the FHWA design approach yields conservative results both in the external and internal stability calculations, i.e., lower factors of safety, than the NCMA design approach. It was also found that required reinforcement lengths are usually governed by the global slope stability requirement rather than the external stability calculations. Also shown is that the required reinforcement lengths for the upper tiers are much longer than those based on the current design guidelines.

Analysis on the Dynamic Behavior of Breakwater with the DCM Method Using the Shaking Table Test (진동대시험을 이용한 DCM공법에 따른 방파제의 동적거동 분석)

  • As recently, there have been two earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.0 or greater in Korea and the number of smaller earthquakes has increased, a lot of research and interest in earthquake-resistant design are increasing. Especially, the Pohang earthquake has also raised interest in earthquake-resistant design of port facilities. In this study, experiments and analysis were conducted on the dynamic behavior of upright and inclined breakwaters during earthquakes among port structures through the 1g shaking table test. To this end, three seismic waves were applied to the model to which the similarity law (scale effect) was applied: long period (Hachinohe), short period (Ofunato) and artificial seismic waves. The acceleration and displacement of the upright and inclined breakwaters were analyzed according to whether the DCM method was reinforced during earthquakes based on the results of shaking table test. As the result, the dynamic behavior of the upright and inclined breakwater shows a tendency to suppress the amplification of acceleration as bearing capacity and rigidity increase when DCM method is reinforced.

Finite Element Analyses on Ultimate Compressive Strength of Longitudinally Stiffened Polygonal Sections (종방향 보강재로 보강된 다각형 단면 기둥구조의 극한강도 해석)

  • 현재 일반적으로 활용되고 있는 원통형 쉘구조로 이루어진 타워구조의 대형화가 추진되면서 제작, 운반 편의성, 단면효율성, 경제성 제고를 위해 다각형단면 기둥구조물의 활용이 대두되고 있다. 하지만 다각형 단면 기둥구조의 극한강도에 대한 자료가 충분치 않고 관련 기준이나 지침이 명확히 제시되고 있지 않은 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 원통형 쉘구조물을 다각형구조물로 대체하여 제작될 경우 축방향 압축에 대한 내하력 향상 효과를 수치해석적으로 검토해 보고자 한다. 해석모델은 지름 2m, 두께 20mm인 원형강관 프로토타입 풍력타워 구조를 참고로 하여 이에 내접하도록 결정한 6~12각형 단면 형상으로써 높이 10,000mm인 3차원 기둥모델을 구현하였고 유한요소프로그램인 ABAQUS를 이용하여 해석하였다. 각 subpanel의 중앙에 종방향 보강재를 설치하였을 때 국부좌굴에 대한 내하력 변화를 비교하기 위해 종방향보강재로 보강한 모델을 구성하여 비교 해석을 수행하였다. 종방향 보강재의 제원은 미국 SSRC 제안식을 기준으로 삼았다. 탄성좌굴해석을 통해 탄성좌굴모드 형상을, 비선형비탄성해석을 통해 최종파괴모드 및 극한강도를 얻었다. 보강 전 후의 탄성좌굴 해석 결과로부터 최소모드의 고유치 값을 비교하였다. 각 subpanel 단면 중심부에 한 개의 보강재를 설치한 경우 탄성좌굴강도가 4배 가량 증가하였다. 이로부터, 보강재(n=1) 설치에 따라 유효 폭두께비가 1/2로 감소하는 효과를 확인 할 수 있다. 비선형해석결과로부터 subpanel의 단면중심에 보강재를 설치한 경우 보강재가 위치한 곳에 고정점이 형성되어 이를 중심으로 국부 좌굴모드에 변화가 생기는 것이 확인되었다. 이러한 변화는 다각형 단면 기둥구조의 내하력 성능, 즉 국부좌굴강도에 영향을 준다. 충분한 강성을 갖는 종방향 보강재가 설치된 경우, 극한상태에서도 유효폭두께비가 줄어드는 것과 같은 강도 향상 효과를 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 사실은 각 해석결과 극한강도를 DIN code, Migita와 Fukumoto의 제안식, SSRC 설계제안식 등과의 비교를 통해 확인할 수 있었다.

Reliability Analysis of Reduction Factor for Structural Design Guideline(draft) of Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete (섬유보강 고강도 콘크리트 구조설계지침(안)의 저감계수에 대한 신뢰도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the reliability index of a design by applying the reduction factor of the recently developed fiber reinforced high strength concrete design guideline(draft). By collecting material and member test data performed for the development of the design guideline(draft), statistical characteristics of material strength and member strength analysis equations are obtained. A simul ation that appl ies the material statistical characteristics and the member anal ysis equation of the design guidel ine(draft) is performed, and the statistical characteristics of the section strength are calculated by combining the statistical characteristics of the analysis equation. Reliability analysis was performed by applying the load combination of the domestic highway bridge design code and concrete structural code, and it was confirmed that the design that applies the reduction factor for materials and members suggested in the design guideline(draft) satisfies the target reliability index.

Mechanical behaviour of tunnel liner using precast segment reinforced by rib (리브 보강 프리캐스트 터널 Liner의 역학적 거동 특성)

  • Due to the limitation of construction efficiency and structural safety, the application of the high covering and wide width tunnels was limited prior to the introduction of precast cut and cover tunnels. Therefore, a cut and cover tunnel structure with rib reinforcement is proposed to mechanically improve the safety on condition of high covering and wide width tunnel. In this study, large-scale experiments are carried out to examine the mechanical behavior of the cut and cover tunnel structure with rib reinforcement under static load condition. Based on the results obtained from this study, the ultimate load of tunnel structure increases to about 3.3 times by rib reinforcement. Consequently, safety of tunnel structure increases compared to non-installed cases due to confining crown part by rib reinforcement.

  • Lateral torsional buckling causessafety accidentssuch as collapse accidents during erection. Therefore, anaccurate safety designshould be conducted. Lateral torsional buckling canbe prevented by reinforcing the end orreducing the unbraced length. The method ofreducing the unbraced length by installing a crossframe has high material and installation costs and low maintenance performance.In addition, structuralsafety may be deteriorated due to cracks. The end reinforcement method using Concrete Filled Half Pipe Stiffeneris a method ofreinforcing the end of a plate girder using a stiffenerin the form of a semi-circular column. This method increasesthewarping strength ofthe girder and increasesthe lateral torsional buckling strength.In thisstudy, the effect ofincreasing the warping strengthof plate girders with concrete filled half pipe stiffeners was confirmed. To verify the effect, the results ofthe designequationand the finite element analysis were compared and verified through a experiment. As a result, the plate girderwithCFHPS increased thewarping strengthand confirmed that the lateral torsional buckling strength was increased.

Shear Strength of the Vertical Joints in Precast Concrete Large Panel Structures (대형 콘크리트 판넬구조의 수직접합부 전단강도에 관한 연구)

  • The strength of vertical joints of precast concrete large panel structures depends on the many factors, such as the bond strength of grout concrete (or mortar), the interlocking of the shear keys, the dowel action of horizontal bars. Many experimental studies have been conducted to in vestigate the shear strength of the vertical joints. In domestic, a few design formulas to predict shear strength of the vertical joint were proposed by some investigators, but formulas were based on limited experimental results. The objective of this paper is to propose a suitable formula for the shear strength of vertical joints with 94 vertical joints experimental data using the modified Mohr-Coulomb's 4ield theory and regression analysis. From the comparison of the proposed formula with others, it is shown that the proposed formula can be used economically for the design of vertical joints.

Calculation for of Strength Reduction Factor for Concrete Beam reinforced with GFRP rebars (GFRP rebar로 보강된 콘크리트보의 휨 강도감소계수 보정식 제안)

  • If the flexural member of concrete is designed using the FRP rebar, suddenly brittleness destruction resulted from the fracture of FRP rebar is generated in the extreme situation because of brittleness characteristics of FRP rebar and concrete when designed to be less than balanced reinforcement ratio, so it is recommended to design the flexural member of concrete to be more than balanced reinforcement ratio. In ACI 440.1R-06 proposes the different bending strength decrease coefficient according to destructive form of concrete flexural member using the FRP rebar. However, ACI 440.1R-06 applies the same strength decrease coeffient to all FRP rebars made of diverse materials. If the same strength decrease coefficient is applied to all FRP rebars, effect of increasing the reinforcement ratio and selection of FRP rebar will be considerably limited. In this regard, we are to propose the formula to calculate the bending strength decrease coefficient in consideration of change in characteristics of FRP rebar and L/D through the reliability analysis in this paper.

  • A finite element analysis study was performed to investigate the behavior and strength of a Plate-Circular Hollow Section joint stiffened with Rib-plate, Since The strength of plate-Circular Section joint is reduced by joint of stress and local plastic deformation which is caused by wall moment, rib plates are attached to the upper and lower Plate-Circular Hollow Section joint for redistribution of stress. The behaviors of joints stiffened with Rib-plate according to shape of rib and reinforcing method, etc are different from those of joints which is not stiffened. However, the criterion of hollow structural section was limited on some parts. Therefore, this study intends to investigate the behavior and structural capacity of Plate-Circular Hollow Section joints stiffened with Rib-plate and compare the Finite element analysis with the Design Equation. Finally, this study proposes the reasonable ultimate strength formula through the comparisons with other design guide.
