  • To develop a technique classifying patients based on computerized clinical data followed by validity verification by comparing with nurse's examination. Class scores were determined by nurses for a day on 348 resident patients in 7 wards of a general hospital according to KPCS-1. The class scores were simultaneously evaluated by reviewing the computerized clinical data acquired from the hospital management information system. These two class scores were both significantly different among different departments as well as disease patterns. Intraclass correlation analysis resulted a very high correlation coefficient of 0.96(p<0.01) between the two scoring methods, but the clinical data scores were somewhat higher. An automated patient classification system seemed possible to be developed in future with further enhancement of the present results based on computerized clinical data without manual scoring, which can be applied for performance evaluation as well as workforce planning.

  • Laboratory information system (LIS) is a key tool to manage laboratory data in clinical pathology. Our department has developed an information system for routine hematology using down-sized computer system. We have used an IBM 486 compatible PC with 16 MB main memory, 210 MB hard disk drive, 9 RS-232C port and 24 pin dot printer The operating system and database management system were SCO UNIX and SCO foxbase, respectively. For program development, we used Xbase language provided by SCO foxbase. The C language was used for interface purpose. To make the system use friendly, pull-down menu was used. The system connected to our hospital information system via application program interface (API), so the information related to patient and request details is automatically transmitted to our computer. Our system interfaced with two complete blood count analyzers (Sysmex WE-8000 and Coulter STKS) for unidirectional data transmission from analyzer to computer. The authors suggests that this system based on down-sized computer could provide a progressive approach to total LIS based on local area network, and the implemented system could serve as a model for other hospital's LIS for routine hematology.

  • Recently most of hospitals progress toward setting up computer based medical information system, and there exists medical standard such as HL7 and DICOM to exchange efficiently between systems each other. However, Heterogeneous system built in each hospital gets a different data structure of medical information for patient and also makes it difficult to share information among hospitals. This paper proposes an integrated medical information system which changes existing diverse types of medical information to a unified structure and combines into one management model using XML from hospital specific medical information system. Thus, our proposed system makes it possible to get an effectively information share across hospitals without considering the internal system structure of other hospital. As a result, Hospitals provide a efficient and correct diagnosis, saving time and cost to patients.

  • Under the quickly changing health care environment in our society competitions among hospitals are getting harder and accordingly the hospital authorities do their best efforts to renovate their hospital management and let directors of food and nutrition services in hospital be seeking the drastic changes in their clinic-support operations. To attain this end it is essential to build an information system in food and nutrition services in hospital for practicing those operational changes efficiently. By building an information system we can totally manage a number of information about hospital food and nutrition services. This kind of information system can not only relieve dieticians and food-service workers from their repetitively routine jobs, but also connect with hospital management information systems organically. Resultantly productivity in this service area can be improved and the efficiency of hospital management will be increased. And accordingly the competitive advantage of the hospital can be greater than ever and that brings patients' and hospital employees' satisfaction. I would like to name this kind of information system for hospital food and nutrition services "TASTY", abbreviated from "Time-based Advanced Service Technology for Yong-Dong Severance Hospital, Nutrition Department" There are one basic information management area and five business management areas in TASTY. Five specific business areas are divided by menu, procurement, clinical nutrition service, production(including distribution and meal service), and financial management.inancial management.
