Recent hospital building design considers not only its functional space composition but also contemplates "patient focused concept" in the early design stage. It is also called "hospital unlike hospital" and, usually, architects put their effort in building's exterior design to serve the coziness for patients. Therefore, this research analyzed and evaluated the exterior design of The K University Hospital Competition, as a case study, to understand recent hospital design trend and also to suggest a vision for future hospital design.

From the latter half of 20's century, the numbers of dental service workers and dental facilities are noticeably increased and dental patients want the higher-classed and specialized dental service. For the increased facilities and user's needs at dental college hospital, the present condition of dentistry, special features and the field study at dental college hospital are surveyed for this study. The purpose of this study is to provide a architectural planning data on the dental college hospital for keeping up with the development of dentistry.

This study is intended to understand the architectural characteristics and trends of general hospitals in Europe. The Observations, interviewes with the staff, and analyses of related materials were executed through the study-visits of sample hospitals. Some results of the study could be summarized as follows : (1) The architectural characteristics of sample hospitals could be described as the realization of horizontal design concept, application of urban design method, specialization of service departments, intergration of facility design, and planning for the emergency & disaster. (2) The architectural trends of sample hospitals could be suggested as the decentralization of functions, promotion of building standard, enhancement of interior space, consideration of environment, and autonomous management & operation of facilities. (3) The humanistic and environmental approaches from european hospitals would be preferably applicable rather than the popular concept of automation, ultra-modernization and mega-structure in Korea. First of all, the bed-center and proper facilities for disaster should be considered.

It is generally said that primary health care is the base of health delivery system. But in Korea, the primary care have not performed its roles well. To resolve these problems, the government has elaborate some policy measures. One of them is 'Attending Hospital System'. The purposes of this study are to understand Attending Hospital System and to anticipate the change of general hospital and clinic by this regulation.

Recently the hospital infection with misappropriation of the antibiotic and absence of knowledge is aincreaseing trend. For this, medical treatment is confronting infection management guide. But so far there is no accurate standard or countermeasures. Since early 1990 Nosocomial Infection has not been looked over, although there is serious problem. After 90's understanding seriousness of Nosocomial Infection, many investigations have been done, but the relations of medical facilities were hardly investigated. This thesis shows the relation between facilities and Nosocomial Infection by documental references and the direction for intensive care unit through survey the recent general hospitals.
