  • This study evaluated the economic feasibility for the Oriental Medicine Hospital is established in W-city. To analyze the demand and supply of Oriental Medicine Hospital status and population trends were analyzed inthe hospital service area. As a result, the Service Area of the demand for Oriental Medicine were met by the S-Oriental Hospital. Thus, On the demand side to assess the adequacy of Oriental Hospital established does not make sense. So, Oriental Hospital of 50 beds and 70 beds, separated by the economic feasibility was evaluated. As a result, the Oriental Hospital opened was found to be not economically feasible.

  • To achieve eco-friendly hospitals it is necessary to empirically verify the effect of meteorological factors on the power consumption of the hospital. Using daily meteorological big data from 2009 to 2013, we studied the weather conditions impact to power consumption and analyzed the patterns of power consumption of two hospitals. R analysis revealed that temperature among the meteorological factors had the greatest impact on the hospital power consumption, and was a significant factor regardless of hospital size. The pattern of hospital power consumption differed considerably depending on the hospital size. The larger hospital had a linear pattern of power consumption and the smaller hospital had a quadratic nonlinear pattern. A typical pattern of increasing power consumption during a hot summer and a cold winter was evident for both hospitals. The results of this study suggest that a hospital's functional specificity and meteorological factors should be considered to improve energy savings and eco-friendly building.

  • Recently, transparency in accounting for medical institutions has been emphasized. However, due to the current system problems and structural limitations, there is a lack of diagnosis on the financial status of domestic hospitals. This study is based on the financial statements per 100 beds of 374 including domestic hospital level to tertiary hospital, and analyzed the Free Cash Flow(FCF) by hospital size from the perspective of Free Cash Flow Hypothesis. After deriving Operating Cash Flow(OCF) through the profit or loss statement of medical institutions, FCFs were analyzed through the prior and current financial statements and OCFs, and the correlation between financial variables was confirmed. According to the analysis, first, hospitals with 160 to 299 beds and 300 beds or more have relatively high FCFs. Second, certified tertiary hospitals, hospitals with less than 160 beds, and general hospitals have negative(-) FCFs. Thus, there's a need to narrow the FCF gap based on the size of the hospital, maintaining an appropriate level of FCF. This study is meaningful in that it was the first FCF analysis based on hospital size. This study is also expected to offer an informative resources in setting differentiated strategies according to the size of medical institutions when establishing new accounting policies in the future.

  • This study estimated productivity change and RTS using Parametric and Non-Parametric approach with 5 year annual data from 2006 to 2010 of 20 public general hospitals in Vietnam collected from Ho Chi Min City Health Department of Health Database. The results could be summarized as follows; First, by the Non-Parametric approach. cumulated productivity growth of 5 years was increased by 2.8% due to regress 5.2% of technical efficiency, 0.3% of pure technical efficiency, but scale efficiency was decreased 5.1% Second, by the Non-Parametric approach, cumulated productivity growth was decreased by 12.8% to due to drop of 17.1% of technical change, 9.1% of scale efficiency. In conclusion, the common result of both approaches was that scale inefficiencies occurs in public hospitals in Vietnam, and they affected productivity change of public hospitals in Vietnam. Namely, 70% to 80% of the analyzed Vietnam public hospitals were at the status of DRS(decreased returns to scale), which suggested that they had oversupply beds relative to the number of occupied patients, it was meaningful that this study was the first study in Korea to measure efficiency and productivity change of Vietnamese public general hospitals and so it could be utilized as the basic information needed to enter hospital industry of Vietnam in the future.
