Purpose: This study is focus on investigation of user's spontaneous behavior in the public space of ward where chronic patients are hospitalized. Methods: The notion and necessity of social healing environment is analyzed by literature review. User's location and behaviour are investigated for analyzing behavior by visiting the six wards. Results: The result 1) Stay is main behavior of users. 2) The frequency of stay is high in the place where are planned as the dayroom, the program room and the balcony. 3) In the corridor, the users are staying around court and single side corridor. And the users who are staying in the ward planned middle corridor and double corridor are spreaded all over the corridor. As the result of the analysis of correlation between frequency of user for stay and area of public space, 4) The area of the dayroom, the program room and the balcony is bigger, the frequency of users are higher. 5) There is no correlation between area of corridor and frequency of users. 6) When the density of user is highest in the place for stay, one person occupied $1.96m^2$. Implications: Hereafter the public space, which social healing environment is considered, is planned, this study could suggest the directions of architectural planning about area.

As the population of the elderly increases drastically year by year in Korea, this phenomenon is being a serious problem because of the increasing speed not having been showed ever all over the world. This thesis would propose the space organizing features for well-organized dementia hospital focused on the public living space. The way arranging each function is very important because values of the physical and functional accessibility have a wide range of value as each type of facility. Moreover, if the arranged function unit is the same as the territory of the space, it could be a good guideline on architectural planning.

Korea is entered to the aging society with 21C. Also it is forecast we will enter in aging society quickly. for 5 years there are some growth in facility at least 2~3 times but our society needs more. But this quantitative growth is worried about less quality. That's why we needs more research about the facility for an geriatrics hospital. The people who suffered from senile disease needs more treatment days in the ward of geriatric hospital. so we have to consider about better condition in ward of geriatrics than in general. Better environment for eldery is included not only the ward space but also the corridor and the dayroom. This study which it performed to improve their habitability is researched on public space. and this reserch deal with general feature against a public space in the ward of geriatric, and investigate 2 facility for divede the the general feature of the space. and this investigate is recorded according to behavior of patients. It can find us which factor of the space is prefered by them.
