  • Fresh ground pork was irradiated with the electron beam(3.0 and 5.0 kGy) using 2 different conveyer speeds (10 and 20 ㎐), respectively, in order to determine the effect of conveyer speeds on the development of lipid oxidation and microbial stability. During refrigerated storage, the development of lipid oxidation decreased significantly (p<0.05) with the increase in the electron beam conveyer speed from 10 to 20 ㎐. The ground pork with electron beam inhibited the growth of total aerobic bacteria and mesophiles. The inhibitory effect increased when the electron beam dose increased from 0 to 5.0 kGy. The finding that higher speed(20 ㎐) of electron beam had some antioxidative effect is very promising, however, other means to control the lipid oxidation must also be employed to fully utilize the sterilization effect of electron beam in ground pork.

  • Dynamic instability of rotating disks is the most significant factor to limit its rotating speed. Application of composite materials to rotating disks may enhance the dynamic stability leading to a possible design of rotating disks with lightweight and high speed. Whereas much work has been done on the effect of transverse shear and rotary inertia, called Timoshenko effect, on the dynamic behavior of plates, there is little work on the correlation between the effect and the rotation of disk, especially nothing in case of composite disks. The dynamic equations of a rotating composite disk are formulated with the Timoshenko effect and the vibrational analysis is performed by using a commercial package MSC/NASTRAN. According to the results, the Timoshenko effect goes seesaw in some modes, unlike the well-known fact that the effect decreases as the rotating speed increases. And it can be concluded, based only on the present results, that decrement of the Timoshenko effect by disk rotation grows larger as the thickness ratio decreases, the diameter ratio increases, the modulus ratio increases, and the mode number increases.

  • When polyethylene terephthalate(PET) film specimen were stepwise elongated under tension with various speeds of about 0.5~500 mm/min, the necking area, consisted of transparent and opaque bands, was formed during plastic deformation. Stress oscillation was apparently obtained in the stress-strain curve of above specimen. However, stress oscillation was not obtained in the stress-strain curve of annealing specimen. Microstructure was examined dynamically using an optical microscopy and thermal analysis was carried out in a differential scanning calorimeter at a heating rate of 10${\circ}$/min. Also, orientation and crystallization were examined using monochromatic-pinhole technique and elastic modulus was measured by a dynamic mechanical analyzer in the temperature range of -150~70 ${\circ}$ with the frequency of 1 Hz. Transparent PET products were fabricated by use of the PET pellets annealed at 83${\circ}$ for 30 min in an electric furnace.

  • The aim of the present study is to investigate the scaling and dynamic erects on the plate cutting response. A series of cutting tests for unstiffened and longitudinally stiffened steel plate specimens in a quasi-static condition were carried out, varying the plate thickness. Based on the previous as well as the present test results, the scaling effect of Plate thickness on the cutting response is investigated. Dynamic erects are also clarified from the devious theoretical and experimental results. The Cowper-Symonds constitutive equation originally derived for mild steel is modified to consider the influence of strain-rate sensitivity on yield strength of high tensile steel.

  • A simple numerical analysis procedure has been proposed to trace the response of unstiffened offshore tubular members subjected to lateral impacts and eventually to estimate the consequential extent of damage. In the procedure a tubular member is reduced to a spring-mass system having two degrees-of-freedom. one for local denting deformation and the other for that of overall bending. Results of impact tests have been correlated with those of numerical analysis in order to achieve an empirical representation of the strain-rate sensitivity and other dynamic effects upon the spring coefficient for bending deformation. The theoretical estimates of extents of damage correlate reasonably well with those obtained in experiments.

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the forming limit diagram (FLD) of strain-rate sensitive materials on the basis of the Marciniak and Kuczynski (M-K) theory. The strain-rate effect is taken into consideration in such a way that the stress-strain curves for various strain-rates are inputted into the formulation as point data, not as curve-fitted models such as power function. Tensile tests and R-value tests were carried out at several levels of temperature and strain-rate from $25^{\circ}C$ to $300^{\circ}C$ and 0.16 to 0.00016/s, respectively to obtain the mechanical properties of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet. The FLD of this material was experimentally obtained by limit dome height tests with the punch velocity of 0.1 and 1.0 mm/s at $250^{\circ}C$. The M-K theory-based FLD predicted using Yld2000-2d yield criterion was compared with the experimental results.

  • A slender guideway is essential in improving aesthetically and reducing its construction cost which accounts for about 70% of overall investment for maglev system. As the slender guideway, however, may increase its deformation, its effect on levitation stability and guidance performance needs to be analyzed. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect on guidance characteristics of maglev due to the lateral deformation of the guideway girder and lateral irregularity of guiderail. For doing this, 3D model considering lateral deformation of girder and irregularity of rail of the guideway is developed. Using the dynamic interaction model integrated with the proposed guideway and maglev vehicle including electromagnetics and its controller, guidance characteristics of maglev are analyzed. It is analyzed that the effect on lateral deformation of girder is relatively small compared to deformation on the lateral irregularities of guiderail.

  • We present a real-time simulation method for muscles which are actuated by skeletal structure based on anatomical properties of the muscles. Muscles are designed by their two endpoints attached to either bones or other muscles and their volume are preserved approximately during the deformation. Skin deformation animation is obtained by a simple skinning due to the muscle deformation. We present also the performance data for a human-like multi-linked character which has bones, muscles, and skin. According to our experimental result, we can get skin deformation animation with a few tens of muscles in real-time. The method proposed in this paper can be applied to obtain skin deformation animation for multi-linked characters appear frequently in real-time environments such as games.

  • The method of utilizing the strain and vibration values of rails is primarily used to diagnose the condition of wheels and railroad facilities. The dynamic load is measured under the assumption that the strain of the rail and the load of the railroad vehicle are proportional. Wheel condition is measured under the assumption that the magnitude of the defect and the magnitude of the rail vibration are proportional. However, environmental factors affecting the strain and vibration of the rail such as vehicle speed, wheel load, climate, and track conditions are not reflected, many errors occur depending on the measurement conditions. In this study, the effect of track distortion, which is a major indicator of the track condition among the environmental factors that affect the strain and vibration of the rail, on the strain and vibration of the rail, was examined through dynamic simulation. As a measure to reduce the measurement deviation, the effect of securing additional measurement points was analyzed.
