  • This research is a discussion in critical viewpoint about Han WonJin's philosophical thoughts. As everyone knows, Han WonJin emphasizes the difference of nature between human and animal, so as to try to be hardened human-being's dignity and value. But, his theoretical system can't back that purpose. First, he focused on the real world and maintains "GiseonLihoo[氣先理後]". It means that the ontological sense of Li can be unmake by Gi, then Li can't be the ultimate basis of everything under the sun and pure good moral principle. This concept is perfectly realized in the theory of Mind-Nature, the realistic nature of everything under the sun is a thing that Li had been unmade by Gi, also formed in mixing with disposition. The practical and concrete Mind only has a cognitive function which had already been decided it's superiority. How can we practice moral behavior, can secure human-being's value and dignity in being based on these Mind-Nature?

  • Gusi pyrophyllite deposit is located in the Haenam volcanic field in the southwestern part of the Korea Peninsula. This area is known for the occurrences of pyrophyllite, alunite and dickite. This volcanic field is composed of andesite, rhyolite and pyroclastic rocks of late Cretaceous age The pyroclastic rocks are hydrothermally altered to pyrophyllite and kaolin minerals forming the Gusi deposits. The hydrothermally altered rock can be classified into the following zones on the basis of their mineral assemblages: quartz, pyrophyllite, dickite and illite-smectite zones, from the centre to the margins of the alteration mass. Such mineral assemblages indicate that the country rocks, most of which are the lower Jagguri Tuff, were altered by strongly acidic hydrothermal solutions with high aqueous silica and potassium activity and that the formation temperature of pyrophyllite is higher than $265^{\circ}C$. The mechanism of the hydrothermal alteration is considered to be related to felsic magmatism.

  • The Daehyun gold-silver deposit consists of two hydrothermal quartz veins that fill NE-trending fractures in the Cambro-Ordovician calcitic marble. I have sampled wallrock, hydrothermaly-altered rock and gold-silver ore vein to study the element dispersion and element gain/loss during wallrock alteration. The hydrothermal alteration doesn't remarkably recognized at this deposit and consists of mainly calcite, dolomite, quartz and minor epidote. The ore minerals composed of arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, sphalerite, stannite, chalcopyrite, galena, electrum, native bismuth and silver-bearing mineral. Based on analyzed data, the chemical composition of wallrock consists of mainly $SiO_2$, CaO, $CO_2$ with amounts of $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3(T)$ and MgO. The contents of $SiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3(T)$, MgO, CaO and $CO_2$ vary significantly with distance from ore vein. The element dispersion doesn't remarkably recognized during wallrock alteration and only occurs near the ore vein margin because of physical and chemical properties of wallrock. Remarkable gain elements during wallrock alteration are $Fe_2O_3(T)$, total S, Ag, As, Bi, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Sb, Sn, W and Zn. Remarkable loss elements are $SiO_2$, MnO, MgO, CaO. $CO_2$ and Sr. Therefore, Our result may be used when geochemical exploration carry out at deposits hosted calcitic marble in the Hwanggangri metallogenic district.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the relations among each white stone and their characteristics through the chemical and mineralogical analysis of them excavated from around some kilns in archaeological sites. Moreover it was intended to infer the function of kilns. Nine white stones were chosen from three different archaeological sites, the each name of which is Sanyang-ri, Youngdu-ri and Gwangdae-ri in Chungcheongnam-do. In the mineralogical characteristics of thin section, eight stones containing calcite are altered and recrystallized by metasomatism and hydrothermal process, and Calcites, major component minerals of limestone, were identified by the analysis of XRD. On the basis of this result, we can infer the stones to be classified into limestone groups. One the other hand, research revealed that one of the white stones was a white pelitic stone composed of quartz, microcline and muscovite. In the analysis of chemical composition, except for the white pelitic stone eight stones are mainly composed of CaO which is major component of Calcite. Besides, as a results of correlation analysis by using a chemical compositions of major and minor elements in white stones, little did each archaeological site have the relativity. In conclusion, each archaeological site was estimated that they would use a limestone ores extracted from different deposits, and there is a high possibility that the function of these kilns is to produce quicklime.

  • The black fault gouge having 5-10 cm width occurs at the center of the fault fracture zone developed at the early Miocene basaltic rocks that is located at the Geumkwang-ri area in Donghae-myeon, Pohang city. The fault gouge was analyzed with XRD, FTIR, DTA/TGA, SEM, TEM, XRF, EPMA. Analyses reveal that the fault gouge is Fe-rich sepiolite having high iron content. Alteration minerals observed in the fault fracture zone are mainly smectite. The significant amount of smectite also observed in the basaltic parent rocks. The occurrence of constituent minerals indicates that the Fe-rich sepiolite was crystallized by faulting and hydrothermal alteration after the consolidation of basaltic rock at the deep place.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the quality characteristics of blanched and non-blanched yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) soaked in Doenjang sauce. The yacon was treated by blanching ($100^{\circ}C$, 4 min), then soaked in Doenjang sauce at $20^{\circ}C$. The pH and total acidity of blanched yacon were not changed significantly after 42 days of soaking. But, the pH and total acidity of non-blanched yacon were rapidly increased and decreased, respectively. The salinity of blanched yacon was higher than that of non-blanched yacon until 35 days. Also, the $Brix^{\circ}$ of blanched yacon was higher than that of non-blanched yacon from 7 days to 35 days. Textural properties of both non-blanched and blanched yacon showed that hardness increased until 21 days but decreased afterwards. The total polyphenol contents of non-blanched yacon decreased after 14 days, but blanched yacon remained constant. The DPPH radical scavenging activity of both blanched and non-blanched yacon decreased gradually as aging continued in the Doenjang sauce. There were no significant differences in sensory characteristics between blanched and non-blanched yacon soaked in Doenjang sauce.

  • Arsenic and heavy metals leached out as a result of oxidation of tailings exposed to the surface pose a serious environmental contamination of mine areas. This study investigated how arsenic behavior is controlled by a variety of processes, such as oxidation of sulfides and formation or alteration of secondary minerals, based on mineralogical methods. The study was carried out using the tailing samples obtained from Nakdong mine located in Jeongseongun, Gangwondo. After separating magnetic and non-magnetic minerals using pretreated tailing samples, each mineral sample was classified according to their colors and metallic lusters observed by the stereoscopic microscope. Subsequently, the mineralogical properties were determined using various instrumental analyses, such as x-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and electron probe micro analyzer (EPMA). The literature review confirmed that various ore minerals were identified in the Nakdong ore deposits. In this study, however, there were observed a few original ore minerals as well as secondary and/or tertiary minerals newly formed as a result of weathering including oxidation. In particular, we did not recognize pyrrhotite which has been known to originally exist in a large abundance, but peculiarly colloform-type iron (oxy)hydroxides were identified, which indicates most of pyrrhotite has been altered by rapid weathering due to its large reactivity. In addition, a secondary scorodites filling the fissure of weathered primary arsenopyrites were identified, and it is speculated that arsenic is immobilized through such a alteration reaction. Also, we observed tertiary iron (oxy)hydroxides were formed as a result of re-alteration of secondary jarosites, and it suggests that the environment of tailing has been changed to high pH from low pH condition which was initiated and developed by oxidation reactions of diverse primary ore minerals. The environmental change is mainly attributed to interactions between secondary minerals and parental rocks around the mine. As a result, not only was the stability of secondary minerals declined, but tertiary minerals were newly formed. As such a process goes through, arsenic which was immobilized is likely to re-dissolve and disperse into surrounding environments.

  • This study was carried out to establish storage methods and to keep high quality of the raw and boiled vegetable peanut. After boiling at 100$^{\circ}C$ for 20min at 7% saline water far 40min the pods were packaged with 80 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Ny/LDPE film in vacuum, 80$\mu\textrm{m}$ LDPE film and Gauge-bag, and stored at room temperature and 4$^{\circ}C$. The moisture content of pods in room temperature were decreased than pods at 4$^{\circ}C$. After 21days storaging with Gauge-bag, texture of pods were toughen because moisture content of pods reduced severely. Colour of raw pods in packaging 80 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Ny/LDPE film vacuum was severely browning but boiled pods was browning little after opening a seal. After 2days storage at room temperature and 21days storage at 4t, pods were deteriorated. The hardness was much lower in boiled kernels than raw kernels and decreased when the storage period elapsed.

  • The well preserved ostracodes of the Chunbuk Formation in Pohang Basin were analyzed isotopically to understand paleoceanographic conditions of the southeastern park of Korean peninsula which Songhacdong, and Mulcheonri areas range from - 2.2 to - 0.7% (PDB), - 0.7 to 0.0% , and -20.0 to - 0.8%, and their corresponding paleotemperatures range from ca 20 to 27$^{\circ}C$ (average = 24$^{\circ}C$), 17 to 20$^{\circ}C$ (average = 18$^{\circ}C$), and 20 to 26$^{\circ}C$ (average=23$^{\circ}C$),respectively. Assuming the $\delta$/SUP 18/O composition of the Middle Miocene seawater was about - 0.34% (SMOW), the paleotemperatures of the Middle Miocene shallow seawater in the Pohang Basin was almost equal to or slightly higher than the present summer temperature (ca 16 to 20$^{\circ}C$) near Pohang area. Carbon isotopic value of Cyhere omotenipponica is - 0.8% (PDB), reflecting marine carbonate carbon composition. Carbon isotopic compositions of other ostracodes such as Aurial okumurai, Trachyleberis niitsmai, Urocythereis sp., Urocythereis cf. gorokuensis, and Acanthocythereis mutsuensis range from - 5.2 to - 3.4% (PDB), which might have secreted their shells out of equilibrium with ambient seawater. This disequilibrium was most likely to have resulted from metabolic (=vital) effect, rather than temperature of productivity.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the succession and method of five-masters of southern school in transmitting the internal alchemy in Taoism which is established by Zhang Bo-duan. In history, the internal alchemy is divided into a few schools but all of them are under the umbrella of Zhang Bo-duan's alchemy. The five master's method has been consistent from Zhang Bo-duan to Seok Tae to Seol Do Gwang based on three reasons. First, they lived long while practicing the method. Second, they learned the method from their direct master secretly. Third, they kept practicing the individual method while staying in the secular world rather than in a religious body. I limit three of them Zhang Bo-Dan, Seok Tae, Seol Do Gwang as figures who practiced the pure internal alchemy. Thus I argue that the method stayed only for 200 years, arising from the late Dang Dynasty and disappearing in 1911, when Seol Do-Gwang was dead. This method can be instructed only to the appropriate figure, and the specific steps of method are taught through the oral instruction so that this method cannot be wide spread. Based on the fact that the time of practicing method is quite long and it needs intensive and constant efforts, it is difficult for a mundane person to practice and cope with the training. Jin Nam and Baek Ok Seom are believed that they belonged to the school of Shin So. Baek Ok Seom is regarded as a figure that made efforts to unite the school of Wei and the internal alchemy. However, he made lots of fabrication and discrepancy. Thus I state that Jin Nam and Baek Ok Seom need to be out in the succession and method of five masters of southern school in Taoism. Their changed method in quality needs to be organized in a new genealogy.
