  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of 22 selected variables for the sexual quality of life(SQOL) of married men and women in their 40s in an effort to lay the foundation for the development of intervention programs geared toward promoting the sexual health of married middle-aged men and women. The selected variables were eight demographic ones, eight sex-related ones and sex marital relationship ones. The subjects in this study were the visitors of four different health examination centers in Seoul. Two of the health examination centers were located in the region of Gangnam, and the others were located in the area of Gangbuk. After a survey was conducted from January 19 to March 5, 2015, the answer sheets from 187 respondents who were aged between 40 and 49 were analyzed. As a result, academic credential(p<.05), health status(p<.001), duration of marriage(p<.01) and monthly mean income(p<.01) were identified significant demographic variables to affect the sexual quality of life. Among the sex-related variables, the level of sex knowledge(p<.01) and exposure to pornography exercised(p<.001) and the husband's participation in delivery(p<.001) had a significant influence the sexual quality of life. All the variables of marital relationship that were marital dilemma(p<.05), the frequency of sexual relations(p<.001), love toward the spouse(p<.001), overall family harmony(p<.001), nonsexual communication(p<.001) and sexual communication(p<.001) had a significant impact on the improvement of the sexual quality of life. In conclusion, the variables of marital relationship were found to have been more important factors to affect the improvement of the sexual quality of life than the demographic and sex-related ones.

  • This is one of the basic research for inspecting the possibility of the development of logical thinking capability to make possible formal thinking. The 5th grade students (n=306) in the elementary school were participated in this study. Performing the 6 variable-controlling activities in the 'Thinking Science' program for one semester, the SRT II test and the Variable-Controlling test were operated to examine the effects on the development of the variable-controlling ability by treatments, gender, and cognitive levels. Performing of the variable-controlling activities was highly successive on the development of students' variable-controlling ability. Although learning effect on the ability of identifying causal variable was moderate, the abilities of controlling experimental condition, measurement of variable, and identifying result variable were significantly developed. There was statistically significant difference by gender. Girls showed better performance all the time in both groups. Boys in the experimental group were getting better gradually, so the difference by gender was somewhat decreased. Examining the variable-controlling ability by cognitive levels, students in the experimental group show significant increase in all levels, especially the students in early, mid, and mature concrete level show substantial learning effects. The results of this study implied that the variable-controlling activities in the 'Thinking Science' could be effective for learning of variable-controlling and eventually for the development of logical thinking capability to make possible formal thinking.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the ideas of pupils with that of the scientists about controlling and identifying of variables, in the two cases: open or guided inquiry. The subjects were the 7th grade boys and girls in a school, in Seoul, Korea. For the guided inquiry, the problems were given by the experiments of pupils' text. Pupils were asked to identify the variables in the experiments. For the open inquiry, pupils set their own inquiry problem. The pupils whose marks are within upper one-third of three classes were chosen. Pupils' ideas on variables were investigated in the design of experiment for their problems. In that, questionnaire developed by researchers was used. In the former, many of the pupils identify just only one variable despite of the fact there were two independent or dependent variables in the experiments. In the latter, the number of independent variables increased two or three. However, pupils do not control independent variables: they vary two independent variables simultaneously in the design of experiment. From these, we compared the pupils' ideas on variables with the scientists'

  • This study reviewed behavioral studies that have been conducted to prevent accidents. The studies were analyzed according to settings, subjects, experimental design, dependent and independent variables. Based on this analysis, issues important for conducting future research are proposed. The analysis indicated that behavioral studies have several limitations although they have been successful in preventing accidents. Especially, variables in individual levels that have been related to the accidents have not been appropriately dealt with in the behavioral studies. Similarly, several important variables in organizational levels have not been implemented in the behavioral studies. Therefore, these variables should be more appropriately dealt with in future behavioral research to increase the effectiveness of accident prevention programs. In addition, theoretical relationship between dimensions of independent and dependent variables and maintenance of programs need to be studied further.

  • In this paper, we discuss the method of recognizing allophone unit isolated words using hidden Markov model(HMM). Frist we constructed allophone lexicon by extracting allophones from training data and by training allophone HMMs. And then to recognize isolated words using allophone HMMs, it is necessary to construct word dictionary which contains information of allophone sequence and inter-allophone transition probability. Allophone sequences are represented by allophone HMMs. To see the effects of inter-allophone transition probability and to determine optimal probabilities, we performend some experiments. And we showed that small number of traing data and simple train procedure is needed to train word HMMs of allophone sequences and that not less performance than word unit HMM is obtained.

  • In this study, the Delphi Method was conducted to extract variables as effects of integrated education. Forty-six experts engaged in both the integrated education and research fields participated in this study. The Delphi survey was conducted for three rounds. In the first round, an open questionnaire was given asking variables possibly considered as effects of integrated education. In the second round, variables induced from analysis of the first survey results were given and the degree of agreement for each variable was determined according to the Likert scale. In the third round of the survey, mean, standard deviation, and the first and third quartile calculated using the results of the second survey were given to experts to determine their degree of assent. In addition, categories for variables were suggested. The degree of agreement for appropriateness of categorization and relative importance were determined As a result, a total of 18 variables were chosen except for career awareness. They were categorized according to their definition and properties into five categories: 'creativity' (flexible thinking, associative thinking, intuitive thinking, creative thinking), 'problem solving' (meta-cognition, problem recognition and solving, critical thinking, decision making ability, ability of knowledge application, knowledge and information processing skills), 'integrative perception and sensitivity' (concern and interest in various disciplines, understanding and acceptance of difference, integrative thinking), 'interpersonal relations' (communication skills, cooperation), and 'disciplinary literacy' (humanistic imagination, basic knowledge and literacy of each discipline, academic motivation). The degree of agreement was high in variables included in 'creativity' and 'problem solving' categories and the frequency of choosing the importance was high in variables included in 'integrative perception and sensitivity'. The educational implication related to implementation and practice of integrated education were discussed on the basis of results.
