  • Differential time-series observations of BL Camelopardalis classified as a double mode SX Phoenicis type variable were secured with a charge coupled device. The observed photometric data was reduced using the IRAF Package and the differential magnitudes were obtained through aperture photometry. The periods of BL Cam were analyzed with the Generalized Least-Square Method by Vanicek (1971) and the Fourier Decomposition Method. It was found that the first and second period of BL Cam were 0.0391 day respectively which lead the period ratio of P1/P0=0.81. This period ratio is much different from 0.78 determined by other investigators and also much more larger than that of other double-mode SX Phe type variables. In addition, this period ratio is much different from the value expected from the relation between the metallicity and period ratio. From these results, it can be confirmed that BL Cam is the most extreme case among all double-mode SX Phe type variables.

  • In this paper, we study two important topics in stereoscopic image communication system. One is a disparity estimation (DE) method to obtain the depth information of a scene at the transmitter and the other is an intermediate view reconstruction(IVR) method at the receiver. We propose a new DE method using an edge-preserving directional regularization technique. The proposed DE method smooths disparity vectors in smooth regions and preserves edges without over-smoothing problem. It provides better reconstructed stereoscopic images and improved coding efficiency than the existing regularization techniques. In addition. we propose a new IVR method using interpolation and extrapolation techniques. The proposed IVR method preserves edge regions as well as occlusion regions well. Thus. it gives better intermediate views than the existing IVR methods.

  • In case of massive water leakage, it's crucial for field manager to quickly positioning the problematic valve and related ones. However, it's not easy for the system to find the corresponding valve and even if it's found, it can not respond quickly because it can't know the relevant information immediately. In this paper, we implement the system for identifying sluice valve positions using GPS and AR techniques. The proposed system is composed of hand held android device, remote database server and data acquisition device for DB creation. We utilize the android device's sensors including GPS, gyro, accelerometer, magnetic sensor. The system identifies the valve with matching between the position data from the remote database server, and current GPS locations of device. We use AR techniques to overlay the graphics pattern of valve positions and some additional informations on captured real scene. With this system, it will be fast and accurate for maintenance of sluice valve of municipal water system.

  • The closed forms of consistent mass matrix with rotational inertia matrix are developed for free vibration analysis in space sutructures containing linearly tapered members with cross section of thin-walled I-sections. The exact displacement functions are used for formulating mass matrices. The very small slopes of the tapered member are used in usual practice, such that the series expansion forms of these are also developed to avoid numerical failure in vibration analysis. Significant improvements of accuracy and efficiency of free vibation analysis are achieved by using the mass matrices developed in this study. Frequencies of free vibation of tapered members are compared with solutions based upon stepped representation of beam element in the ANSYS. The mass matrices presented in this study can be used for the free vibration analysis of tapered and prismatic members.

  • In this paper, a hierarchical stereo matching with color information is proposed. To generate an initial disparity map, feature based stereo matching is carried out and to generate a final disparity map, hierarchical stereo matching is carried out. The boundary (edge) region is obtained by segmenting a given image into R, G, B and White components. From the obtained boundary, disparity is extracted. The initial disparity map is generated when the extracted disparity is spread to the surrounding regions by evaluating autocorrelation from each color region. The initial disparity map is used as an initial value for generating the final disparity map. The final disparity map is generated from each color region by changing the size of a block and the search range. 4 test images that are provided by Middlebury stereo vision are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm objectively. The experiment results show better performance compared to the Graph-cuts and Dynamic Programming methods. In the final disparity map, about 11% of the disparities for the entire image were inaccurate. It was verified that the boundary for the non-contiguous point was clear in the disparity map.

  • Compressive axial behavior of the variable cross-section soft ground reinforced foundation is investigated from the field load test results at ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ construction site in Incheon city. Variable cross-section soft ground reinforced foundation is a type of partial-displacement pile formed by mixing bidding material with in situ soils to obtain a rigid and strong variable cross-section column in a relatively soft ground. The foundations are usually constructed as a group; however in this study, only single foundation was installed and tested under compressive axial load on foundation head. For the comparison of the variable cross-section soft ground reinforced foundation axial behavior, behavior of typical Pretensioned spun high strength concrete (PHC) pile constructed on a relatively soft ground near the surface was analyzed. It was concluded that variable cross-section soft ground reinforced foundation efficiently resists against axial load with sufficient stiffness and strength within a considerable range of axial load magnitude.

  • Researchers have suggested that educators have to focus their attention on variability and reasoning about variation as means of developing students' statistical thinking in school mathematics. This paper investigated knowledge for the teaching of variability and reasoning about variation; what are sources of variability, how to cope with variability, what are types of variability, how to recognize variability, and the relationship between statistical problem solving and variability. The results involve: discussion on the sources of variability and how to cope with variability promotes students' awareness of different types of variability and students' motivation in the following steps in the statistical activity; emphasis on reasoning about variation in teaching representation of data accords with objectives of statistics education; reexamination of curriculum for statistics education is needed, which has a content-oriented arrangement.

  • The purpose of this study was to regression analysis for variables on effect of development of scientific thinking. The subjects sampled in this study was 117 5th grade students, 131 8th grade students, and 127 11th grade students. The students were administered test of 10 questionnaires. The GALT(group assessment of logical thinking), FIT(figured intersection test), and GEFT(group embedded figural intersection test) were used which developed previous researchers. And other questionnaires were modified. The result of this study showed that cognitive variables, psychological variables, home variables and learning environment variables made effects on scientific thinking. Cognitive variables, psychological variables, home variables, and learning environment variables explained 60%, 10%, 5% and 10% to scientific thinking. All of those variables explained around 86%. Overall, 5th, 8th and 11th grade models were similar but with some differences in the effects of contextual variables with in the models.

  • As multiview video applications become more popular, correspondence problem for stereo image matching plays an important role in expanding view points. Thus, we propose an efficient dense disparity estimation algorithm considering features of each image pair of multiview image sets. Main concepts of the proposed algorithm are based on the region-dividing-bidirectional-pixel-matching method. This algorithm makes matching process efficient and keeps the reliability of the estimated disparities. Other improvement have obtained by proposed cost function, matching window expanding technique, disparity regularization, and disparity assignment in ambiguous region. These techniques make disparities more stable by removing false disparities and ambiguous regions. The estimated disparities are used to synthesize intermediate views of multiview images. Computer simulation demonstrates the excellence of the proposed algorithm in both subjective and objective evaluations. In addition, processing time is reduced as well.

  • The state-of-art of curved box girder bridge with cross section design has advanced in various area. In these days, several analytical techniques for behaviors of curved box girder bridges cross section are available to engineers. The transfer matrix method is extensively used for the structural analysis because its merit in the theoretical background and applicability. The technique is attractive for implementation on a numerical solution by means of a computer program coded in Fortran language with a few elements. To demonstrate this fact, it gives good results which compare well with finite element method. Therefore, this paper proposed the static analysis method of curved box bridge with cross section by transfer matrix method based on pure-torsional theory and the optimal span ratio/variable cross section ratio of 3 span continuous curved box girder bridge.
