The ecological characteristics of the Korean Aucha perch, Coreoperca herzi, were determined in order to estimate stock of the mid-upper system of the Seomjin River. The age was determined by counting the otolith annuli. The oldest fish observed in this study was 5 years old. Relationships between body length (BL) and body weight (BW) were $BW=0.0195BL^{3.08}$ ($R^2=0.966$) (p<0.01). Relationships between the otolith radius (R) and body length (BL) were BL=3.882R+1.66 ($R^2=0.944$). The von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated from a non-linear regression method were $L_{\infty}=19.68\;cm$, $W_{\infty}=188.64\;g$, $K=0.17\;year^{-1}$ and $t_0=-1.46$ year. Therefore, growth in length of the fish was expressed by the von Bertalanffy's growth equation as $L_t=19.68$ ($1-e^{-0.17(t+1.46)}$) ($R^2=0.997$). The annual survival rate (S) was estimated to be $0.666\;year^{-1}$. The instantaneous coefficient of natural mortality (M) of estimated from the Zhang and Megrey method was $0.346\;year^{-1}$, and instantaneous coefficient of fishing mortality (F) was calculated $0.061\;year^{-1}$. From the estimates of survival rate (S), the instantaneous coefficient of total mortality(Z) was estimated to be $0.407\;year^{-1}$.

Background: For the diagnosis or evaluation of airway obstruction in bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive lung disorders, various parameters derived from the forced expiratory volume curve and maximal expiratory flow volume curve have been used. Recently the peak expiratory flow(PEF) measured by the peak flow meter is widely used because of its simplicity and convenience. But there were still no data of the predicted normal values measured by the peak flow meter in Korea. This study was to obtain the predicted normal value of PEF and to know the accuracy of this value to predict $FEV_1$. Method: The measurements of PEF by the MiniWright peak flow meter and several parameters derived from the forced expiratory volume and maximal expiratory flow volume curves by the Microspiro HI 501(Chest Co.) were done in 129 men and 125 women without previous history of the respiratory diseases. The predicted normal values of parameters according to the age and the height were obtained, and the regression equation of $FEV_1$ by PEF was calculated. Results: The predicted normal values of PEF(L/min) were -2.45$\times$Age(year) +1.36 $\times$ Height(cm)+427 in men, and -0.96 $\times$ Age (year) + 2.01 $\times$ Height (cm) + 129 in women. FEFmax derived from the maximal expiratory flow volume curve was less than by 125 L/min in men and 118 L/min in women respectively compared to PEF. $FEV_1$(ml) predicted by PEF was 5.98 $\times$ PEF(L/min) + 303 in men, and 4.61 $\times$ PEF(L/min) + 291 in women respectively. Conclusion : The predicted normal value of PEF measured by the peak flow meter was calculated and it could be used as a standard value of PEF while taking care of patients with airway obstruction. $FEV_1$, the gold standard of ventilatory function, could be predicted by PEF to a certain extent.
Research on technical efficiency, an important dimension of market performance, had received little attention until recently by most industrial organization empiricists, the reason being that traditional microeconomic theory simply assumed away any form of inefficiency in production. Recently, however, an increasing number of research efforts have been conducted to answer questions such as: To what extent do technical ineffciencies exist in the production activities of firms and plants? What are the factors accounting for the level of inefficiency found and those explaining the interindustry difference in technical inefficiency? Are there any significant international differences in the levels of technical efficiency and, if so, how can we reconcile these results with the observed pattern of international trade, etc? As the first in a series of studies on the technical efficiency of Korea's manufacturing industries, this paper attempts to answer some of these questions. Since the estimation of technical efficiency requires the use of plant-level data for each of the five-digit KSIC industries available from the Census of Manufactures, one may consture the findings of this paper as empirical evidence of technical efficiency in Korea's manufacturing industries at the most disaggregated level. We start by clarifying the relationship among the various concepts of efficiency-allocative effciency, factor-price efficiency, technical efficiency, Leibenstein's X-efficiency, and scale efficiency. It then becomes clear that unless certain ceteris paribus assumptions are satisfied, our estimates of technical inefficiency are in fact related to factor price inefficiency as well. The empirical model employed is, what is called, a stochastic frontier production function which divides the stochastic term into two different components-one with a symmetric distribution for pure white noise and the other for technical inefficiency with an asymmetric distribution. A translog production function is assumed for the functional relationship between inputs and output, and was estimated by the corrected ordinary least squares method. The second and third sample moments of the regression residuals are then used to yield estimates of four different types of measures for technical (in) efficiency. The entire range of manufacturing industries can be divided into two groups, depending on whether or not the distribution of estimated regression residuals allows a successful estimation of technical efficiency. The regression equation employing value added as the dependent variable gives a greater number of "successful" industries than the one using gross output. The correlation among estimates of the different measures of efficiency appears to be high, while the estimates of efficiency based on different regression equations seem almost uncorrelated. Thus, in the subsequent analysis of the determinants of interindustry variations in technical efficiency, the choice of the regression equation in the previous stage will affect the outcome significantly.

This paper presents test results on eight reduced beam section(RBS) steel moment connections. The testing program addressed bolted versus welded web connection and panel zone(PZ) strength as key variables, Specimens with medium PZ strength were designed to promote energy dissipation from both PZ and RBS regions such that the requirement for expensive doublet plates could be reduced. Both strong and medium PZ specimens with a welded web connection were able to provide satisfactory connection rotation capacity for special moment-resisting frames. On the other hand, specimens with a bolted web connection performed poorly due to premature brittle fracture of the beam flange of the weld access hole. If fracture within the beam flange groove weld was avoided using quality welding, the fracture tended to move into the beam flange base metal of the weld access hole. Plausible explanation of a higher incidence of base metal fracture in bolted web specimens was presented. The measured strain data confirmed that the classical beam theory dose not provide reliable shear transfer prediction in the connection. The practice of providing web bolts uniformly along the beam depth was brought into question. Criteria for a balanced PZ strength improves the plastic rotation capacity while reduces the amount of beam distortion ore also proposed.
In the present study, a unified shear design method was developed to evaluate the shear strength of concrete beams with and without FRP shear reinforcement. The contributions of FRP and concrete on shear strength were defined separately. By comparing the current design method calculated results with the existing test results, it was found that Triantafillou model shows a reliable prediction of FRP effective strain and FRP shear strength contributions. The concrete shear strength contribution was defined by the strain-based shear strength model developed in the previous study. The shear strength of concrete compression zone was evaluated based on the material failure criteria of the concrete subjected to the compressive normal and shear stresses. The proposed strength model was verified by comparing its prediction results to prior test results. The comparisons showed that the proposed method accurately predicts the strengths of the test specimens for both FRP shear reinforced and unreinforced concrete beams.

This study is an analysis of slope failure examples of cut sedimentary hills during construction road in Kyoungsang Basin, especially Yangsan Fault system (Ilkwang-Dongrae fault). This area involved a lot of hillslope failures compared to other areas during road construction. The exposed failure slopes were first face-mapped, and then back analyzed based on the limit equilibrium method to assess the shear strength parameters of discontinuity (bedding). The results of this analysis indicate that the shear strength parameters of discontinuity (bedding) are significantly smaller than those used in the design stage and presented in the existing works. The filling in the bedding and emerging groundwater may be decreasing strength parameters. Especially, the clay in the bedding plays a key role in the effect of the shear strength. The study also suggests that the bedding angle and the internal friction angle are proportional to each other. Using this relationship and knowing the bedding angle, the friction can easily be estimated.

For urban watershed models, the ILLUDAS and SWMM are the popular rainfall-runoff models used in Korea. However, combined sewage systems in urban areas produced problems when a flood occured because of the surcharged precipitation amount which drained to the streams directly. Also, the lack of pipe line data and the difficulties of modeling yield inappropriate modeling results in urban runoff analysis. In addition, rainfall-runoff models in urban areas which use channel routing could have inaccurate and complicated processes. In this paper, the MIKE SWMM model has been applied for the stable runoff analysis of urban areas. Watershed and pipe line data were established by using past inundated records, DEM data, and the numerical pipe line data. For runoff modelings, the runoff block was adapted to a basin and the Extran block using dynamic equations was applied to the sewage system. After comparing to models that exist, it is concluded that the MIKE SWMM model produces reliable and consistence results without distorting the Parameters of the model.
This paper discusses the posibility of synthesizing flood hudrographs by the stroage function model. Eight small watersheds from Han, Gum, Nakdong, Youngsan river system were selected for this purpose. The optimum constants are computed from the chi square criterion by the SDFP methods Based on these constants, equations for the storage constant and Lag time are derived from the kinematic wave theory and storage function theory. These relations are examined by using optimum constants of the storage function model and assumptive constant of the kinematic wave model. Main results are sumarized as follows. 1. Constants of the storage function model are closely related to those of the kinematic wave model. The formula obtained theoretically is difficult to use practically because of the unclaified definition of factors. 2. In order to estimate constants of the storage function model for the practical purpose, new equations are also proposed for mountaneous area. 3. The verification of proposed equation is made for several recorded floods for mountaeous areas.

A reliability analysis is conducted on the process in estimating frequency rainfalls. 39 year of annual maximum data in Seoul station are collected to analyze the reliability in the frequency analysis technique. Frequency analysis is carried out for the nine types of distribution function and three types of parameter estimation method which are currently used in Korea. Reliability Analysis is conducted for the frequency rainfalls determined by 3 types(maximum, median, selected) of method to select the adequate rainfall. Computed rainfalls of each duration and return period are standardized to find the distribution of the frequency rainfall. It shows that the resulting rainfall distribution fairly represents the normal distribution. Coefficient of variation of 0.0456 is computed to be used in estimating the reliability based design rainfall.

In this paper, the theoretical research and simulation using the Finite Element Method (FEM) to design and form a micro-pattern for an ultrasonic horn is described. The present method is based on an initial design estimate obtained by FEM analysis. The natural and resonant frequencies required for the ultrasonic tool horn used for forming the fine pattern were predicted by finite element analysis. FEM analysis using ANSYS S/W was used to predict the resonant frequency for the optimum technical design of the ultrasonic horn vibration mode shape. When electrical power is supplied to the ultrasonic transducer, it is converted into mechanical movement energy, leading to vibration. The RFID TAG becomes the pattern formed on the insulating sheet by using the longitudinal vibration energy of the ultrasonic tool horn. The FEM analysis result is then incorporated into the optimal design and manufacturing of the ultrasonic tool horn.
