  • The axisymmetric bodies considered in this study have hemispherical and ellipsoidal noses. The near-field pressure fluctuations over each nose model at $Re_D=2.43{\times}10^5$ were investigated in the laminar separation region and developing turbulent boundary layers using a 1/8' pin-holed microphone sensor. The wall pressure fluctuations were also measured in an axisymmetric boundary layer on a cylinder parallel to mean flow at a momentum thickness Reynolds number of 850 and a boundary layer thickness to cylinder radius ratio of 1.88.

  • Many malfunction take place in container crane spreader due to impact. So we designed a 2 DOF hydraulic impact absorbing equipment to absorb the impact and we studied the change of damping coefficient with respect to the variation of dimensions of oil-Cylinder wail. When we design the dimension of hydraulic cylinder wall considering the displacement on the wall, the value of it over 20m didn't affect the damping coefficient.

  • Hot-wire measurements of second and third-order mean products of velocity fluctuations have been made in the separated, reattached, and redeveloping boundary layer behind a vertical fence. Mean velocity, wall static pressure distributions have also been measured in the whole flow field. Upstream of the reattachment point, the separated shear layer developes as a free mixing layer, but the gradient of the maximum slope thickness, turbulent intensities and the Reynolds shear stress are higher than that of the mixing layer due to initial streamline curvature and the effects of highly turbulent recirculating flow region. In the reattachment region, Reynolds shear stress and triple products near the surface is far more rapid than the decrease of the shear stress; that is the presence of the solid wall has a marked effect on the apparent gradient diffusivity of intensity or shear stress and throws doubts upon the usefulness of the simple gradient diffusivity model in this region.

  • The parameters which can affect the performance of small thruster were verified by experiments. The loss of catalyst through the port for pressure sensor was prevented by chamber wall mesh. There was no performance decrease due to chamber wall mesh, and stable supply of propellant is the key of stability of the thruster. However, sudden pressure drop in the chamber can decrease the performance instantly. Therefore, the sudden pressure drop should be eliminated as much as possible. The cross type distributor showed more stable performance than circular type, and structural strength is also stronger.

  • In this study, we analyzed a two-dimensional Stokes flow through a microchannel containing projections with constant spacing attached to each wall. The projections on the top and bottom walls were semi-circular in shape, with in-phase locations. By considering the periodicity and symmetry of the flow, the eigenfunction expansion and least squared error method were applied to determine the stream function and pressure distribution. For some typical radius and spacing values, the streamline patterns and pressure distributions in the flow field are shown, and the shear stress distributions on the boundary walls are plotted. In addition, the average pressure gradients in the microchannel are also calculated and shown with the radius and spacing of the projections. In particular, the results for the case of extremely small gaps between the projections on the top and bottom walls are in good agreement with the lubrication results.

  • The sloshing is very important in a safe transport of the liquid cargo by a ship. With the increasing number of supertanker and LNG carriers, this problem has become increasingly more important. In order to study the magnitude and characteristics of impact pressures due to sloshing, experiments ware performed with a rectangular tank and compared with numerical results. Structural responses of tank wall under impulsive pressures were measured. Structural vibrations induced by the sloshing load were analysed by including hydroelastic erects in terms of added mass and damping. To check the validity of the numerical model, the natural frequencies of plate in air and water were compared with measurements, and a good agreement was found. In the case that a plate vibrates under impulsive loads, the pressure on the flexible plate is larger than that on the rigid plate without hydroelastic effects, which was confirmed experimentally. The frequency of oscillatory pressure as well as accel%pion coincides with the natural frequency of plate in water.

  • Hot-firing tests were performed on two 30 tonf-class regenerative cooling combustion chambers, with different injector distribution and wall cooling method. In the paper, the combustion stability test results were analyzed and presented. The pressure fluctuation and stability rating test(SRT) results of the combustion chambers were examined to evaluate combustion stability. The combustion chambers exhibited satisfactory results on combustion stability. The RMS values of the chamber pressure fluctuation were less than 3% of the chamber pressure and the decay time of artificial pressure peaks was measured to be around 10% of the reference decay time. It is interesting that the RMS values of pressure fluctuation in the combustion chamber with film cooling are smaller than those in the chamber with cooling injectors at the periphery row.

  • We examine a problem in which porous/viscoelastic compliant thin plates are subject to pressure fluctuations under transitional or turbulent boundary layer. Measurements are presented of the frequency spectra of the near-field pressure and radiated sound by compliant surface. A porous plate consisting of 5mm thick. open-cell foam with fabric covering and a viscoelastic-painted plate of 1mm thick over an acoustic board of 4mm thick were placed over a rigid surface in an anechoic wind tunnel. Streamwise velocity and wall pressure measurements were shown to highly attenuate the convective wall pressure energy when the convective wavenumber (k$_{c}$h) was 3.0 or more. The sound source localization on the compliant walls is applied to the measurement of radiated sound by using an acoustic mirror system.

  • A theoretically based prediction for the determination of the subchannel friction factor at low pitch to the rod diameter ratio (P/D < 1.2) in the bare rod bundle flow has been developed. The present model assumes the validity of the Law of Wall over the entire flow area. The algebraic form of the Law of the Wall is integrated over the entire flow area and the local friction velocity variation along the rod periphery is considered in this study. The present method is applied to the rod bundles with P/D < 1.2, and the prediction results show good agreement with the available experimental data.

  • In this paper the liquid sloshing effects in vertical storage tanks under earthquake loadings are studied. The study focuses on the investigation of the effect of the flexibility of the tank wall on the hydrodynamic forces exerted on it. The tank structure is modelled using finite elements. The motion of the liquid is expressed by the Laplace equation. The equation of motion of the fluid shell system is formulated including the coupling effect between the shell motion and the sloshing motion. A procedure is developed to obtain the natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the sloshing motion as well as the shell vibration. Dynamic analyses have been carried out for several tanks with different dynamic characteristics utilizing the time history method as well as the response spectra method.
