This study purposed to verify the effects of knee balance taping therapy on knee pain and knee range of motion in the elderly with knee pain. The Quasi-experimental design, nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest was used in this study. Data collected from December 5 to 10, 2014. The participants were older than 60 with knee pain visiting senior community centers. Non-medicated elastic tapes were applied around the knee in the experimental group(n=21) and were not applied in the control group(n=19). Knee pain and range of motion were measured 3 times (before, after 1 hour, after 24 hours). Data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$ test, Fisher's exact test, Mann-Whitney test, t-test, Repeated measure ANOVA with the SPSS version 21.0 program. The experimental group showed significantly decreased knee pain (F=34.03, p<.001) and increase in knee range of motion (F=7.83, p=.006). The results of this study confirm that knee balance taping therapy is an effective intervention for reducing pain and improving range of motion in elderly with knee pain.

This study examined the effects of balance taping therapy on improving knee pain and the obstacles to daily activity in rural elderly women. The research design was a quasi-experimental research using a non-equivalent control group pre-test and post-test design. The data were collected from January 19th to April 14th, 2017. The research subjects included female elderly over 65 years old who visited 12 senior centers located at Y city in rural areas. The participants were composed of 26 people in the experimental group and 28 people in the control group. Data were collected before and 24 hours after balance taping therapy, and the pain and obstacles to daily activity were measured. The collected data were analyzed using the PASW Statistics 23 Program, which included a $X^2-test$, Shapiro-Wilk test, and Mann-Whitney U test. After the intervention, significant differences were observed in the knee pain (Z=-6.658, p<.001) and obstacles to daily activity (Z=-3.466, p=.001). With regard to lower domain variables of the obstacles to daily activity, significant differences in standing up (Z=-2.860, p=.004), daily activity (Z=-2.629, p=.009), walking (Z=-3.868, p<.001), and dressing up (Z=-2.049, p=.040) were observed between the two groups. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in grip (Z=-.542, p=.588) and arm stretching (Z=-.416, p=.678). In conclusion, applying balance taping to rural elderly women clearly decreases the level of knee pain, reduces the obstacles to daily activity, and improves their quality of life.
Purpose: This study is to examine the effect of balance taping therapy applied on the old people who suffer from arthritis upon the pain in legs and obstacle in daily activity. Methods: The research period was from Dec. 2003 to Feb. 2004, and among the old female people who visited one of the welfare halls in Seoul downtown and 4 assembly hall for old people who aged over 60 years. 30 of the experimental group and 33 of control group were optionally collected. Results: The pain degree in legs and the uneasiness degree of the obstacle in the daily life of the experimental group who were treated by the balance taping was decreased than those of the control group(p=0.015, p=0.000). Conclusions: Based upon the above result, it was confirmed that the balance taping therapy has influence in decreasing the degree of the uneasiness in the leg pain and daily activity obstacle of the old people who suffer from the arthritis, and therefore it is thought that this therapy can be usefully applied for one of the nursing methods for the old patients, and besides the repeated future researches are needed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of balance taping procedures on lower back pain. Method: This study is nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design of quasi-experimental study. From May in 2004 to July in 2004, the research was done for females who have lower back pain in Gyeonggi province. Experimental group was 37, and control group was 36. The degree of lower back pain and that of the pain on activity of daily living(ADL) were each measured two times. Result: In the experimental group, the lower back pain score before taping was 6.38, that of 1 hour after the taping applied was 3.27. The lower back pain score of experimental group was significant statistically decreased and that of control group was almost not changed. Moreover, the pain score on ADL was statistically decreased in experimental group. Therefore balance taping is effective to reduce lower back pain and to improve ability of ADL. Conclusion: This study supports that balance taping may benefit individuals with lower back pain and balance taping therapy can be used as an independent nursing intervention. However, a larger study is in need to provide definite evidence and to determine long-term effects.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of balancing taping therapy on reducing headache in patients with angina pectoris undergoing nitrate IV therapy. Methods: A non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design was used. A total of 50 patients with angina pectoris undergoing nitrate therapy at G hospital participated in the study. For measuring pain intensity, the Visual Analogy Scale (VAS) and Non-Verbal Pain Behavior Scale were used. Data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0 program. Results: No significant differences were observed between the experimental and control groups in pain intensity. However, the number of times of analgesics of experimental group was significantly lower than those of control group. Conclusion: Balance taping can be effective in pain for patients undergoing nitrate IV therapy. Therefore, utilizing the balance taping can be useful method to reduce headache in patients with angina pectoris during the IV therapy of nitrate.
The purpose of this study was to analyse the EMG activity of selected muscles with balance taping treatment and blood fatigue makers which accumulated during exercise of progressive maximal intensity. Ten male college students who did not experience any cardiovascular and musculo-skeletal disease were participated in this study. Balance taping were applied to rectus femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, biceps femoris, semitendinous, semimembranous, and around knee joint. Isokinetic knee joint flexion/extension force, EMG activity, lactate and ammonia as blood fatigue makers during progressive maximal intensity exercise were measured for with/without applying balance taping. The results indicated that although flexion force of total work at $60^{\circ}/sec$ with taping was increased applied taping did not affect to the aerobic exercise ability parameters. Lactate level as blood fatigue makers during progressive maximal intensity exercise after taping was decreased but the ammonia level did not change with same treatment. In isokinetic knee joint test at the angular velocity of $60^{\circ}/sec$, $180^{\circ}/sec$, and $240^{\circ}/sec$ the taping treatment did not affect to any selected muscle EMG activities except maximal EMG of vastus lateralis at $240^{\circ}/sec$.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of balance taping therapy on neck pain in high school students. Methods: The study employed a randomized control group pretest-posttest design with four-time repeated measures. Data were collected from 62 high school students with neck pain. The experimental group (n=31) took balance taping therapy for six days with appropriate position and stretching education while the control group (n=31) applied patches including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) for six days with appropriate position and stretching education. Neck pain, cervical range of motion (CROM) and neck disability were measured at pretest, day one, day three and day six which was the posttest day. Results: For the experimental group, the neck pain was significantly improved on all three days (F=16.82, p<.001), and extension and right lateral flexion of the CROMs were significantly improved over time compared to the control group (F=3.85, p =.011; F=2.71, p=.047, respectively). Neck disability was also improved in the experimental group compared to the control group (F=8.64, p<.001). Conclusion: The balance taping therapy was an efficient intervention for high school students with neck pain. Nurses could apply non-pharmacological interventions such as balance taping therapy without pharmacological side effects.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of balance taping on pain and Range of Motion (ROM). ROM of the knee joint in the elderly with lower limbs arthritis. Methods: This study was a nonequivalent pretest-posttest design, quasi-experimental study. An experimental group of 35 elderly and a control group of 35 elderly were assigned. Subjects responses to the Visual analogue Scale (VAS) and range of motion scores as measured by a joint goniometer. Data were analyzed by, t-test and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: In the experimental treatment group, the pain score was significantly decreased from 6.46 to 2.09 after balance taping (p<.001). In addition, knee joint ROM of the experimental group was significantly increased from 114.80 to 121.92 after balance taping (p=.003, p<.001, p<.001). Conclusion: This is a very important study as it is an excellent treatment that nurses can utilize and these data support the efficacy of the method.
