There is a growing concern about the damage to aquatic ecosystem caused by immigration of non-indigenous species. It is estimated that more than 10,000 million tons of ballast water is transported by shipping activities annually, and ballast water has been recognised as a major vector for the transplant of aquatic species across bio-geographical boundaries. The problem of harmful aquatic organism in ballast water for the control and management of ships' ballast water and sediments was adopted and diplomatic conference of IMO at February 2004. At once ballast water is transported by shipping activities for organic compounds, nitrogen, phosphorus and heavy metal etc. but, It's fixing a focus only for the transported of pathogenic bacteria and non-indigenous species. Hence, this studies on the distribution of organic compounds, nitrogen, phosphorus and heavy metal in ballast water during the shipping activity with the basic data which is necessary to the systemic manage of ballast water.
As recently, ' International convention for the control and management of ship's ballast water and sediments ' was adopted, it is necessary to accept the international convention in Korea. The systems of foreign countries for ship's ballast water control and management were investigated, and domestic environment-related laws were reviewed and compared regarding the discharge of industrial wastewater and ship's ballast water. Alternative measures of domestic legislation were suggested for acceptance of the international convention.

Destruction of marine ecology system induced by the bal last water discharged from ships is one of the most serious problem among the various ship associated environmental impacts. International Maritime Organization (IMO) has actively dealt with this problem for a long time and is going to start to activate very strong international treatment for preventing ocean from such serious environmental impact. Various technologies of ballast water treatment are now being developed all over the world. In this paper, recent trend of existing ballast water treatment technologies is investigated in detail. Furthermore, in order to apply electrolysis technology to ballast wale r treatment, its basic principle is reviewed theoretically and its feasibility is checked through some in-situ experiments. Quite good results are shown in the experiments enough to confirm its applicability in ballast water treatment.

The treated ballast water from previous treatment contains microorganisms and pathogenic organisms in an filtration treatment system. The advantage of this process can be filtrated to minimize the demage to screen clogging of drum filter with sweeping the solids off rotating the surface of the filter. Another advantage is to drop off the solids with controlling revolution of drum screen in pretreatment filtration process. Also the fact that it is easy to attach and detach a several type of screen for getting the expected water quality is another advantage, too. Filter rotation speed at 20rpmis 40.5cmHg and 40rpm is 36.6cmHg. Filter out impurities from ballast water over 60rpm is 35cmHg. Filtration system removal aquatic organism over $80{\mu}m$ in ballast water. This study shows that the filtration treatment system has a potential for the removal of ballast water.

This study is about backwash condition and membrane fouling at continuous filtration process in ballast water treatment. Displayed result that handle particle contaminant and hydrospace organism included a number of ballast that is happened in ship using automatic back washing filter. Reason that removes first contaminant that is included in number of ballast is that heighten processing effect of after processing process of the filter. Another advantage is to drop off the solids with controlling revolution of drum screen in pretreatment filtration process. The capacity of pilot plant was $10m^3/h$. The result of the test, Backwash cycle time and duration time and a signification effect on the efficiency of system and backwash Backwash duration time was determined to be fixed in 6 seconds of the system with more than 95% removal rate, It needed 1hour backwash frequency. Filtration system removal aquatic organism over $70{\mu}m$ in ballast water. This study shows that the filtration treatment system has a potential for the treatment of ballast water.

This study is focused on applying heavyweight concrete to ballast used to have stability of a ship. Generally, heavyweight concrete is made from a high density aggregate like magnetite or limonite. However, these materials are hard to obtain them from relevant companies and so expensive. Therefore, this study plans to product heavyweight ballast concrete which is easy to obtain by recycled iron slag. Heavyweight ballast concrete isn't required to meet some compressive strength in use, but it is required to have high flowable and 2.7t/m3 of bulk density to fill the ballast tank densely. The designed field mix proportion of concrete based on the results of pre-experiment shows it can control the temperature crack and has superior chloride corrosion resistance after conducting chloride corrosion experiment. Also, it is prefer that before airtightness voltile corrosion inhibiter(VCI) is added in airtight space of shipyard.
