애니메이션은 단순히 시각적인 정보만을 전달하는 것이 아니라 시각적 정보(이미지), 청각적 정보(음향)와 더불어 내러티브의 융합으로 이루어진다. 이러한 애니메이션의 이미지와 음향은 내러티브의 구조 속에서 조절되고 통제되어지며, 그 맥락에 의해서 의미를 부여받게 된다. 애니메이션이 관객에게 전달하고자 하는 의미는, 비록 동일한 모티브에서 출발한 애니메이션이라 할지라도, 제작자에 따라 서로 다른 의미를 생성해낸다. 월트 디즈니사와 플라이셔 스튜디오의 백설공주는 동화 백설공주를 모티브로 하여 제작되었지만 내러티브의 의미생성에 있어 큰 차이점을 찾아 볼 수 있다. 디즈니의 백설공주는 원작의 의미를 바탕으로 제작자가 재해석하여 애니메이션으로 재탄생시킨 반면, 플라이셔의 백설공주는 백설공주 원작의 의미를 바탕으로 제작하였다기보다는 작품을 완전히 새롭게 구성하여 내러티브의 결속력을 약화시킬뿐만 아니라, 그 당시 시대적 상황을 잘 반영하고 있다.

아동기에 읽은 동화는 일생에 걸쳐 가치관과 태도 형성에 중대한 영향을 주게 된다. 그런데 아동이 즐겨 보는 전래동화에서 대부분의 계부모-자녀관계가 부정적으로 다루어지고 있다. 이것은 현재와 같은 이혼의 증가로 인한 재혼가족의 증가 추세에서 사악한 계모의 상을 제시한 전래동화가 계부모-계자녀의 적응에 부정적인 영향을 더할 가능성을 시사한다. 이 연구에서는 서울 시내 남녀 대학생 271명을 대상으로 그들이 아동기에 읽은 계모-계자녀 관계를 다룬 3편의 전래동화가 그들에게 어떤 편견을 형성하였다고 판단하는 지를 조사하였다. 이를 위하여 질문지를 사용하였고, 분석을 위하여 빈도, 백분율, $\chi2$ 분석을 사용하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생은 아동기에 백설공주라는 외국의 전래동화를 콩쥐팥쥐나 장화홍련전과 같은 한국 전래동화보다 더 많이 읽었고, 그 내용에 대해서도 더 잘 인지하고 있었다. 이런 경향은 여학생이 남학생보다 더욱 그러하였다. 둘째, 대학생은 백설공주, 콩쥐팥쥐, 장화홍련전에서 계모-계자녀간의 적응을 방해하는 부정적인 계모상을 연상하였다. 넷째, 여학생이 남학생보다 여성 주인 彭？계모에 대한 편견과 인지에 더욱 민감하였다. 다섯째, 이들 동화가 편견을 형성한다는 것을 인지하면서도, 절반 정도의 대학생은 이들 동화를 친지 아동에게 권하거나 선물하려고 한다.

영화라는 매체는 크게 내러티브와 스펙터클로 이루어진다. 비슷한 내러티브라도 스펙터클이 달라지거나 혹은 비슷한 스펙터클이라도 내러티브가 달라지면 총체로서의 영화가 관객에게 주는 경험은 완전히 달라진다. 본 논문은 비슷한 내러티브의 영화들이 관객에게 주는 경험의 차이를 논하기 위해 그림 형제의 "백설 공주"이야기에 기반 하여 만들어진 디즈니의 <백설 공주와 일곱 난쟁이>, 타셈 싱의 <거울아 거울아>, 루퍼트 샌더스의 <스노우 화이트 앤 더 헌트맨>, 세 편의 영화들을 내러티브와 스펙터클로 나누어 비교분석하였다. 그 결과 디즈니의 <백설 공주>가 내러티브적인 면과 스펙터클적인 면에서 모두 이후에 만들어진 영화들의 원형으로 작용했다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 디즈니의 <백설 공주>가 "잠자는 숲 속의 공주" 이야기에서 차용한 키스신이나 백설 공주가 동물들과 교감한다는 설정, 일곱 난쟁이 각각의 이름과 성격묘사 등은 그림 형제의 원작에는 없는 부분인데 이후의 영화들은 모두 이 변화를 채택했다. 특히 <스노우 화이트 앤 더 헌트맨>의 경우 백설 공주의 의상도 디즈니 버전과 흡사하고, 일부 샷들은 설정과 구도까지도 거의 동일하다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이 영화들은 확연하게 다른 스타일의 스펙터클로 자신의 정체성을 보여준다. 디즈니의 <백설 공주>가 이후 많은 영화들의 원형이된 마녀의 전형적인 모습을 보여준다면 <거울아 거울아>는 타셈 싱만이 가능한 눈속임 그림과도 같은 독특한 마법의 세계를 보여주고 있으며 <스노우 화이트 앤 더 헌트맨>는 친숙한 것 사이의 섬뜩함이라는 언캐니의 스펙터클로 관객을 압도한다. 즉 비교적 예측 가능한 단순한 내러티브에도 불구하고 세 영화가 박스 오피스에서 비교적 성공을 거둔 것은 많은 부분 스펙터클의 힘이다.

아이들에게 꿈과 희망을 심어주는 아름다운 이야기들로 되어 있는 동화. 백설공주, 신데렐라, 헨델과 그레텔 등 동화 속 주인공들은 한결같이 어려움을 겪지만 결국은 행복한 결말을 맞이하게 된다. 하지만 동화의 원전을 읽어 보면, 과연 이것을 아이들에게 읽혀도 좋은지 의구심이 들 정도로 잔인한 내용도 많다. 이러한 동화가 오늘날 아름다운 내용으로 많은 사람에게 각인된 데에는 그림 형제와 월트 디즈니의 역할이 컸다. 그렇다면 과연 동화 속에 감춰진 전실은 무엇일까?

The aims of this research were to characterize magic realism by analyzing existing magical reality literature reviews and research and to identify material that may inspire ideas for stage and film costume design by analyzing and drawing design characteristics and magic realism of costumes from Director Tarsem Singh's movie, 'Mirror, Mirror'. For the methodology, characteristics of magic realism in literature and, movies were analyzed, with a theoretical consideration of these materials on magical realism. Data on costume design and magical realism characteristics for use in the analysis were collected from the main characters of 'Mirror, Mirror' as well as from other characters. The result of this analysis was the emergence of five common characteristics of the magic realism Historicity, the most remarkable characteristic seen in Tarsem Singh films, was expressed through the symbolic meaning and decorative patterns shown by the traditional-style costumes, colors. Symbolization was expressed through the symbolic meaning, decorative elements, and traditional clothes, as shown by the colors and forms of the costumes. Fantasy was expressed through the colors, decorative elements, forms of traditional clothing, and forms with symbolic meaning. Reproducibility was expressed through the method of decorative element, symbolic meaning, traditional forms and de-structural clothes. Ambiguity, which can be associated with the combined characteristics of historicity and fantasy, was expressed in the clothes worn in the scenes that confounded time and space within the film.

In terms of class, race, or gender, critical literacy takes seriously the problem of inequality and injustice embedded in texts. Texts are considered as tools that are used for maintaining the status quo by constructing and communicating our identities, particularly in relation to others. While reading texts and identifying our roles in society, some feel empowered, and others, marginalized. Thus we need to challenge the characterization and the message included in those texts by asking problem-posing questions. In this paper I have demonstrated how to read and teach four versions of "Snow White" from a critical literacy stance. By the use of problem-posing questions, students are led to discover that one of Grimms' fairy tales, the original version of "Snow White," was written from the perspective of men with power, thus marginalizing women in general, as well as the seven dwarfs. Through a critical analysis of Snow White's personality, the typical theme of fairy tales - good is rewarded while evil is punished - should be challenged. In the animation, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, power is given to the marginalized people in the original, the seven dwarfs and women in general. In "Snow Night,"a feminist short story, women in general are empowered while men, who should be judged by their looks, are powerless. "Snow-Drop"reminds us of the original, but challenges stereotypes, prejudices, and the theme inherent in the story. In those three stories many parts from the original are rewritten from the perspectives of the marginalized, but still some people are described prejudicially. So students should be guided to write another story from a new perspective. When those four works were taught with problem-posing questions in a university, this approach proved to be quite successful: most students acknowledged the effectiveness of critical literacy in teaching literary works.

This paper compared and analyzed costume design shown in two movies that was adapted from the same original work, 'Snow White'. One movie consists of a western director and a western designer team while the other movie is shot by an Asian director and an Asian designer team. Two movies show similarity and difference in expression of characters in 'Snow White'. The findings are as followed;- Both movies project an image of modern women, which is mainly represented by active and confident women, However, Ishioka Eiko, the costume designer of < Mirror, Mirror >, created unique costume in the movie by applying splendid and vivid colors to western costume to make exotic feeling. On the other hand, Colleen Atwood, who was inspired by costume in each historic period and region of the Western. created costume that was closer to the tradition of the Western in his movie, < Snow White and the Huntsman >. The purpose of this study is to help the Korean movie industry to find a way to advance to the world market by fully understanding how the Easterners and the Westerners feel and express 'Snow White'. Moreover, this study may present a chance to review importance and value of the movie costume design area.

3D와 2D를 망라하여 라이프 드로잉(Life Drawing)은 캐릭터 애니메이션 교육과정에서 매우 중요한의미를 갖는다. 디즈니의 백설공주 제작을 위한 인체의 공부는 이후 디즈니가 장편 애니메이션과 기타애니메이션 분야에서 독주를 하도록 만들어준 비밀병기였다. 라이프 드로잉은 이러한 역사적인 배경을 가지고 현재까지도 디즈니가 세운 미국의 칼 아츠(California Institute of the Arts), 디즈니 출신 애니메이터들이 세운 캐나다의 쉐리던 칼리지(Sheridan College)등 유수 애니메이션 학교에서 전공 필수 과정이다. 그에 반해 라이프 드로잉이 실무에 더 가까워질 수 있는 영역임에도 불구하고 한국의 애니메이션 대학교에서는 아직 라이프 드로잉 교육의 필요성과 그 효과에 대해 그다지 강조되어 있지 않고 있음을 알 수 있다. 대학의 애니메이션 교육이 산업과 직접적으로 연관되어 있다는 것은 이제는 업계와 학계가 모두 아는 현실로서 학교에서는 좀 더 체계적이고 기본의 충실한 교육을 하여야 할 것이다. 그 기초 과목에 하나로 라이프 드로잉의 중요성을 다시 짚어보고 캐릭터 애니메이션을 전공과정으로 둔 대학들이 교육과정을 구성하는데 도움이 되고 그 교육과정을 이수한 학생들이 현업에 쉽게 자리 잡을 수 있게 하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다.
