  • This study was carried out to investiagate the residual stress caused by the mismatch of thermal expansion and the bond failure resistance of alloy-porcelain specimens. The thermal expansions of alloys and porcelains were measured by using a straight push-rod dilatometer. Porcelain glass transition temperatures, thermal expansion coefficients, and thermal compatibility indices were derived from length-versus-temperature curves. Strain gauges were used to experimentally determine the Young's moduli of porcelains, the residual stresses of porcelain surface, and tensile bond strengths of the specimens of simulated porcelain metal crown. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The coefficients of thermal expansion for alloys were the minimum of $13.53\mu/^{\circ}C$ and the maximum of $20.11\mu/^{\circ}C$ in the range of $100\sim600^{\circ}C$ and those for porcelains were the minimum of $7.72\mu/^{\circ}C$ and the maximum of $31.24\mu/^{\circ}C$ in the range of $100\sim500^{\circ}C$. 2. The glass transition temperature of porcelains exhibited the same value without my relation to the healing rate, and the thermal disharmony of porcelain and alloy was more affected by porcelains than by the alloys. 3. The Young's moduli of body porcelains were larger than those of opaque porcelains(P<0.01) 4. It seemed that the residual stresses of porcelain surfaces in the porcelainalloy systems were more affected by porcelains than by alleys. 5. The bond strengths of the procelain-base metal alloy systems were larger than those of the porcelain-precious metal alloy systems. The fracture strengths of porcelain surfaces showed significant difference between porcelains (P<0.05).

  • This study was to investigate whether the bioactivity of the anodized and hydrothermally treated Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy were affected by the time of hydrothermal treatment. Anodizing was performed at current density 30 $mA/cm^2$ up to 300 V in electrolyte solutions containing $DL-{\alpha}-glycerophosphate$ disodium salt hydrate $(DL-{\alpha}-GP)$ and calcium acetate (CA). Hydrothermal treatment was done at $300^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hrs, and 4 hrs to produce a thin film layer of hydroxyapatite (HA). The bioactivity was evaluated from HA formation on the surfaces in a Hanks' solution with pH 7.4 at $36.5^{\circ}C$ for 10, 20, and 30 days. Anodic oxide films were porous with pore size of $1\sim4{\mu}m\;and\;3\sim4{\mu}m$ thickness. The anodic oxide films composed with strong anatase peak with presence of rutile peak, and showed the increase in intensity of anatase peak after hydrothermal treatment. It was shown that the intensity of anatase peak increased with increasing the time of hydrothermal treatment but was no difference in rutile peak. The corrosion voltage was the highest in the group of hydrothermal treatment for 2 hrs (Ecorr: -338.6 mV). The bioactivity in Hank's solution was accelerated with increasing the time of hydrothermal treatment.

  • Statement of problem: Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy is used instead of Ti-6Al-4V alloy that was known to have toxicity. Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effect of electrolyte concentration on the surface characteristics of anodized and hydrothermally-treated Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy Materials and methods: Discs of Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy of 20 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness were polished sequentially from #300 to 1,000 SiC paper ultrasonically washed with acetone and distilled water for 5 min, and dried in an oven at $50^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Anodizing was performed at current density $30mA/cm^2$ up to 300 V in electrolyte solutions containing $\beta-glycerophosphate$ disodium salt hydrate $(\beta-GP)$ and calcium acetate (CA). Hydrothermal treatment was conducted by high pressure steam at $300^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours using a autoclave. All samples were soaked in the Hanks' solution with pH 7.4 at $36.5^{\circ}C$ for 30 days. Results and conclusion: The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. After hydrothermal treatment, the precipitated HA crystals showed the dense fine needle shape. However, with increasing the concentration of electrolyte they showed the shape of thick and short rod. 2. When the dense fine needle shape crystals was appeared after hydrothermal treatment, the precipitation of HA crystals in Hanks' solution was highly accelerated. 3. The crystal structures of $TiO_2$ in anodic oxide film were composed of strong anatase peak and weak rutile peak as analyzed with thin-film X-ray diffractometery. 4. The Ca/P ratio of the precipitated HA layer was equivalent to that of HA crystal in Hanks' solution.

  • This study was performed to investigate the surface properties and in vitro biocompatibility of electrochemically oxidized Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy by anodic spark discharge technique. Discs of Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy of 20 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness were polished sequentially from #300 to 1000 SiC paper, ultrasonically washed with acetone and distilled water for 5 min, and dried in an oven at $50^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Anodizing was performed using a regulated DC power supply. The applied voltages were given at 240, 280, 320, and 360 V and current density of $30mA/cm^2$. Hydrothermal treatment was conducted by high pressure steam at $300^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours using a autoclave. Samples were soaked in the Hanks' solution with pH 7.4 at $36.5^{\circ}C$ during 30 days. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. The oxide films were porous with pore size of $1{\sim}5{\mu}m$. The size of micropores increased with increasing the spark forming voltage. 2. The main crystal structure of the anodic oxide film was anatase type as analyzed with thin-film X-ray diffractometery. 3. Needle-like hydroxyapatie (HA) crystals were observed on anodic oxide films after hydrothermal treatment at $300^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. The precipitation of HA crystals was accelerated with increasing the spark forming voltage. 4. The precipitation of the fine asperity-like HA crystals were observed after being immersed in Hanks' solution at $37^{\circ}C$. The precipitation of HA crystals was accelerated with increasing the spark forming voltage and the time of immersion in Hanks' solution. 5. The Ca/P ration of the precipitated HA layer was equivalent to that of HA crystal as increasing the spark forming voltage and the time of immersion in Hanks' solution.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effect of resin and filler type on the fracture toughness of light-activated composites. Experimental composites were prepared using urethane tetramethacrylate(UTMA) and bisphenol glycidylmethacrylate(Bis-GMA) monomers and five different types of silica fillers. Fracture toughness was measured by a single edge V-notched beam(SEVNB) method, which was discussed from ASTM E399-78. Rectangular bars of $2.5{\times}5{\times}26mm$ were prepared with experimental composites and a notch about 2.25mm deep was carved at the center of the long axis of the specimen using a dental diamond disk driven by a dental micro engine. The flexural test was carried out at a crosshead speed of 0.05mm/min and fracture surfaces were observed under scanning electron microscope. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The fracture toughness values of UTMA-based composites were relatively higher than those of Bis-GMA-based composites. 2. The highest fracture toughness value was observed in the UTMA-based composite containing the $1.5{\mu}m$-spherical fillers. 3 Aging in the distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 10 days showed the increase of fracture toughness, which was severer in the Bis-GMA-based composites than those of UTMA-based composites. 4. The AE amplitude occurring during the fracture toughness tests was the highest at the point of macroscopic fracture.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare and analyze the work environment, role conflict, and job embeddedness between comprehensive nursing care service (CNCS) ward nurses and general ward nurses. Methods: This descriptive research study involved 70 CNCS ward nurses and 69 general ward nurses working at an advanced general hospital in Seoul. Data were collected using the structured questionnaire from March 27 to April 14, 2019 and analyzed with the SPSS 24.0 program. Results: The work environment of the CNCS ward nurse was higher than that of the general ward nurse (t=4.38, p<.001), and the role conflict of the CNCS ward nurse was lower than that of the general ward nurse (t=-2.09, p=.038). However, job embeddedness did not show any statistically significant difference (t=0.22, p=.824). Conclusion: The results of this study show that the introduction of CNCS ward has shown improvement in the work environment and strengthened the establishment of the roles in their team, while maintaining the job embeddedness of nurses. These results indicate that improvements in the work environment, such as nurse staffing and material support, would contribute to the qualitative enhancement of nursing and that it would need to extend the introduction of CNCS wards.

  • Separation process of heavy minerals was performed with sand from Dunjang beach of Jaeundo, Shinangun, Chonnam, and the feasibility study separating heavy minerals was carried out, and their properties were studied. Samples were selected in three parts, which were upper part, middle part and lower part, with depth. Samples of heavy mineral groups separated with the spiral separator were chosen as starting materials, and they were separated with 3 times of table separation. Heavy minerals presenting in this area were ilmenite, zircon, rutile, anatase, monazite, and xenotime. In the results of 3 times of table separation, minor content of quartz, orthoclase, albite and muscovite were existed as gangue minerals. Accordingly, we concluded that additional specific gravity separation was needed. In the results of separation of heavy minerals by hand picking, it was confirmed that heavy minerals had various genesis because of their various roundness and color.
