Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome and Related Risk Factors of Elderly Residents in Andong Rural Area 2. Based on the Biochemical Measurements and Nutrient Intakes (안동 농촌지역 중년 및 노인 주민의 대사증후군 유병율과 관련 위험요인 분석 2. 생화학 측정결과와 영양소 섭취를 중심으로)

  • This study was performed to identify the association between the metabolic syndrome and the biochemical measurements and nutrient intakes. A total of 1,431 people (533 males, 898 females) aged over 45 years living in Andong rural area participated in this study in 2003. Plasma aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), $\gamma$-glutamyl transferase ($\gamma$-GT) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels in metabolic syndrome were significantly higher than those in normal group. In multiple logistic regression, those biochemical measurements were found to be positively associated with the metabolic syndrome as the adjusted odds ratios (OR) 1.839 (p<0.001) by AST, 2.302 (p<0.01) by ALT, 2.143 (p<0.001) by $\gamma$-GT, and 1.874 (p<0.001) by TBARS. We also found that the increased level of those measurements tended to be strongly associated with high triglyceride among the metabolic syndrome components. However, the nutrient intakes between the metabolic syndrome and the normal group were not significantly different. Also, we could not find any nutrient intakes significantly associated with the metabolic syndrome, except high carbohydrate intake (>70% of kcal) compared to normal intake (55~70% of kcal) showed OR 0.781 (p<0.05). In analyzing the association of nutrient intakes with metabolic syndrome components, we found that the calorie intake was negatively associated with abdominal obesity (OR 0.696, p<0.05) and high fat intake (>25% of kcal) was positively associated with low HDL-cholesterol (OR 1.864, p<0.05). This study revealed that the biochemical measurements, such as plasma AST, ALT, $\gamma$-GT, and TBARS, are associated with metabolic syndrome, but considering the nutrient intakes, we suggest that further studies are needed to identify the associations.

Chlorella 대량 배양을 위한 농업용 비료에 trace element의 첨가 효과

  • Rotifer의 먹이 생물로 이용되는 Chlorella의 대량 배양에는 농업용 비료가 널리 이용되고 있다. 그러나 농업용 비료만을 사용할 경우 f/2배지에 비해 성장이 낮은 단점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 농업용 비료 배지에 여러 가지 미량 성분을 첨가하여 그 성장 변화를 측정하고, 고밀도 대량 배양에 필요한 미량 원소 성분을 파악하고자 하였다. 먼저 Chlorella의 대량 배양에 이용되는 농업용 비료 배지(복합, 요소비료)에 실내 배양에 주로 이용되는 f/2배지의 trace element 성분 중 코발트(Co), 구리(Cu), 아연(Zn) 및 몰리브덴(Mo)를 f/2배지의 함량을 기준으로 각각 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 및 2.0배로 첨가하여 $25^{\circ}C$, 5,000 lux 연속조명, 15$\textperthousand$에서 배양한 결과 각 미량 원소의 첨가 함량이 높을수록 Chlorella의 성장은 높게 나타났다. 전체 실험구 중에서 아연 2.0배, 구리 2.0배를 첨가한 비료 배지에서 S.G.R.이 각각 0.3598, 0.3599의 성장을 나타내었으며, 아연과 구리 성분을 첨가한 Chlorella에서 높은 성장률을 보였다. 위의 실험에서 첨가효과가 좋은 Cu와 Zn 2.0배와 철(Fe)과 망간(Mn)을 같은 비율(0.5~2.0배)로, 다시 배양한 결과, Cu 2.0배와 Zn 2.0배는 S.G.R.이 각각 0.6283과 0.6231로 가장 높았으며, Fe 2.0배, Mn 2.0배와 1.5배에서 S.G.R이 각각 0.6210, 0.6200, 0.6183의 높은 성장률을 나타내었다. 위의 실험에서 농업용 비료에 첨가된 모든 trace element 중에서 가장 좋은 성장을 나타낸 구리(Cu) 성분의 정확한 공급 농도를 파악하기 위하여 농업용 비료에 2, 3, 4 및 5배를 첨가하여 $25^{\circ}C$, 5,000 lux, 15$\textperthousand$에서 배양한 결과, S.G.R.이 CU 함량을 3배로 첨가하였을 경우 2716$\times$$10^4$cells/$m\ell$로 가장 높은 세포 밀도를 나타내었다. 또한 5종의 trace element (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Co)를 혼합하여 비료 배지(1.25배)에 첨가하여 미량 원소간의 상호 작용에 대해서 알아 본 결과, Fe와 Mn 두가지 성분만을 농업용 비료 배지에 혼합하였을 경우 세포수가 2720$\times$$10^4$cells/$m\ell$로서 높은 성장을 나타내었다. 다음으로 Fe, Mn, Zn 및 Cu 4종을 모두 혼합하여 첨가한 실험구가 2608$\times$$10^4$ cells/$m\ell$ 높은 세포 밀도를 나타내었다. 이러한 결과로서 옥외에서 농업용 비료배지에 구리(Cu, f/2배지 기준 3.0배)성분을 첨가함으로써 Chlorella의 성장을 효율적으로 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Morphological Observation of Somatic Embryogenesis in Leaf Explant Cultures of Bupleurum falcatum L. (시호(Bupleurum falcatum L) 잎절편으로부터 형성된 체세포배 발생의 형태학적 관찰)

  • This study describes plant regeneration from leaf explant of Bupleurum falcatum through somatic embryogenesis, and the effect of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid on somatic embryo abnormalities. The relationship between the cotyledon number of somatic embryo and its germinability is also described. Embryogenic calli were selected from calli formed on explants cultured on MS solid basal medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 2,4-D. Cotyledonary abnormalities were observed in somatic embryos which were developed from calli cultured on MS medium with 1 mg/L 2,4-D for 6-week and then subcultured on 2,4-D free MS medium for 3 weeks. The frequency of abnormalities was as follows: 7% of somatic embryos had one cotyledon, 65% of them had two cotyledons, 25% three cotyledons, 5% four cotyledons, 2% five cotyledons, and 3% trumpet-like cotyledons. The two cotyledon somatic embryos were germinated at a frequency of 80%. However the germination frequency of one cotyledon embryo and multicotyledonary embryo was lower than that of the two cotyledon somatic embryo. All of trumper-like somatic embryos did not germinate. Histological observations of multicotyledon embryo showed circular procambium in the root but pocambial strands in the cotyledonary node or upper hypocotyl. The number of the strands was equal to the cotyledon number.

Impact of Sleep Time on Psychic Symptoms, Suicidal Ideation and Suicide Attempt in Korean Adults : Focus on Gender Difference (우리나라 성인에서 수면시간이 정신증상, 자살생각 및 자살시도에 미치는 영향: 성별차이를 중심으로)

  • This study analyzed the influence of Korean adults sleep time on psychological symptoms, suicidal ideation and attempts considering gender differences. The data was collected from the community health survey in 2017 with 228,381 people. When categorizing them into male and female, logistic regression analysis was conducted and the main analysis results are as follows. First, there are more women with shorter or longer sleep time than men. Second, in case of shorter sleep time (5 hours and less), stress, depression, and the suicidal ideation rates were high while suicidal attempts were higher in case of sleep greater than 9 hours and more. Third, in case of men, based on 6~8 hours of sleep time, people with shorter sleep time showed higher stress (1.84 times), depression (1.98), suicidal ideation (1.88), and attempts (2.38). People with 9 hours and more sleep showed greater depression (1.79), suicidal ideation (1.96) and attempts (2.39). Fourth, in the case of women, people with shorter sleep time showed greater stress (2.09), depression (1.94), suicidal ideation (1.96), and attempts (2.90). People with longer sleep showed greater depression (1.39), suicidal ideation (1.45) and attempts (1.71). Fifth, people's stress with greater sleep for both genders was higher than that of people with normal sleep. but there was no significant difference. Further prospective studies are needed on specific sleep dysfunctions effects on suicidal ideation and attempts.

The effect of chronic diseases and oral health behavior of economic workers on oral diseases (경제활동자들의 만성질환과 구강건강행태가 구강질환에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated 2,088 economically active workers aged 20 to 65 years selected from the sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to evaluate the relationship between chronic diseases and oral health behaviors among economic workers and examine the risk factors for oral diseases. The results of the study were as follows. Dental caries were related to subjective oral health status, toothache experience, orthodontic treatment experience, chewing problems, speaking problems, oral examination, and dental clinic use. Periodontal disease was associated with oral health status, toothache experience, orthodontic experience, and chewing and speaking problems. The risk factors for chronic diseases and oral health behavior were as follows. Hypertension, 1.37 times; obesity, 1.48 times; diabetes, 1.5 times; low HDL-cholesterol, 1.31 times; hepatitis A antibody, 1.53 times higher. Health status was found to be 1.70 times higher in dental caries and 2.10 times higher in periodontal disease. The tooth experience was 1.30 times higher in dental caries and 1.35 times higher in periodontal disease. Problems chewing were 1.76 times for dental caries and 1.78 times for periodontal disease. The possibility of dental caries and periodontal disease was 1.44 times higher. Smokers were 1.61 times more likely to have dental caries and 1.63 times more likely to have periodontal disease. These results suggest that periodontal diseases increase the risk of chronic diseases and oral health behavior increases the risk of dental caries and periodontal disease. Although dental caries seem to have a lower risk of becoming a chronic disease if only oral health care is good, it is considered that both chronic disease and oral health care are important for periodontal disease.

Effect of biomass pyrolysis liquid on the quality characteristics of 'Xiangshui' pears (Pyrus ussuriensis) during storage (바이오매스 열분해액이 '향수'배의 저장 중 품질특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The quality characteristics of 'Xiangshui' pears (Pyrus ussuriensis) treated with different concentrations of biomass pyrolysis liquid (BPL) during storage at $25^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The weight of 'Xiangshui' pears treated with BPL declined at a slower rate than that of the control. The rot index of BPL-treated 'Xiangshui' pears decreased with increasing storage times, and treatment with 20-fold-diluted BPL resulted in the lowest rot index after storage for 12 days. The total acid content of 'Xiangshui' pears treated with 20-fold-diluted BPL was 0.19%, and was the highest after storage for 12 days. After storage for 12 days, the total sugar content of 'Xiangshui' pears treated with 20-fold-diluted BPL was 7.19%; this was significantly higher than that of the control, but not significantly different from that of pears treated with other BPL dilutions. The vitamin C content of 'Xiangshui' pears showed a decreased trend, and pears treated with 20-fold-diluted BPL had a vitamin C content of 2.21 mg/100 g after storage for 12 days and showed the least decline compared to other treatments. In addition, respiration in 'Xiangshui' pears was effectively inhibited by treatment with BPL. In conclusion, BPL treatment exerts a protective effect on the quality of 'Xiangshui' pears during storage, with 20-fold-diluted BPL being the most effective.

Correlation between oral frailty and health-related quality of life (HINT-8) among older adults in Korea (한국 노인의 구강노쇠와 건강관련 삶의 질(HINT-8)의 관련성)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to confirm the correlation between oral frailty and health-related quality of life (HINT-8) among older adults in Korea. Methods: The data of 1,318 individuals aged ≥65 years who participated in the eighth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2019) were analyzed using complex sample statistical analysis. Results: Chewing discomfort was found to decrease the HINT-8 scores by 1.246, 1.324, and 1.089 times in the physical, social, and mental domains, respectively. Speech discomfort was found to decrease the HINT-8 scores by 1.275, 1.449, and 1.175 times in the physical, social, and mental domains, respectively. The HINT-8 scores of participants with ≤19 natural teeth were lower in the physical and social domains. Similarly, the HINT-8 scores of participants with brushing frequency of ≤2 were lower in the positive health domain. Non-use of oral hygiene products led to a reduction in the HINT-8 score in the social health domain. Conclusions: Oral frailty in older adults reduces the health-related quality of life. Thus, it is necessary to formulate policies to manage oral frailty in this population and develop specialized programs for the management of oral frailty.

황비창천명 삼족오문(三足烏紋) 고려 동경에 새겨진 배의 국적

  • 2017년 5월 필자는 황비창천명 항해도문 고려 동경에 새겨진 배가 기존에 알려진 것과 달리 고려의 배가 아닐 가능성이 있음을 입증하였다. 황비창천명 항해도문 고려 동경의 원 도안은 북송대에 유래하여 금대에 크게 유행한 뒤 무역을 통해 고려에 유입되어 크게 유행하였다. 따라서 우리나라에서 출토된 황비창천명 항해도문 고려 동경은 중국에서 유래한 원도안을 모방하여 재주조, 변형, 재창조한 것이므로 뒷면에 새겨진 배는 고려의 배라기 보다는 중국의 배라고 보아야 한다는 것이다. 그러나 국립중앙박물관과 국립대구박물관에 소장된 삼족오문 고려 동경(덕수 4927; 덕3194)에 새겨진 배는 평면형 저판 및 선수미, 중첩된 삼판, 최상부 삼판에 보이는 가룡목의 흔적 등 여러 면에서 원양항해용 평저선형 고려선박으로 볼 수 있다. 흥미로운 사실은 황비창천명 항해도문 동경이 기원지인 중국에 비해 고려에서 널리 모방, 변형, 재창조되어 활발하게 주조 및 유통되었다는 점이다. 유리판(于力凡)의 견해를 받아들인다면, 황비창천명 항해도문 동경은 북송의 휘종(徽宗)(재위 1100-1125) 황제의 성덕(聖德)을 찬양(讚揚)할 목적으로 주조되었다. 그러나 이배근의 견해를 원용하면, 고려에서는 항해도문안을 태조 왕건의 조부인 작제건(作帝建)의 설화로 해석하여 태조 왕건을 룡손(龍孫)으로 지체를 높이기 위한 상징물로 활용했을 개연성이 있다. 이것이 황비창천명 항해도문 동경이, 북송과 금을 통해 유입되었음에도 불구하고, 고려에서 이를 모방 및 변형하고 독창적으로 재창조하여 널리 유통되게 된 사회문화적 배경이 되었을 수 있다. 이는 차후의 연구를 통해 밝혀내야 할 과제다.

Effects of Cell Size, Density, Conditioned Media and pH on Carrot (Daucus carota L.) Cell Embryogenesis (당근(Daucus carota L.) 세포 배양시 세포의 크기, 밀도, Conditioned 배지 및 pH가 배발생에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of sizes and densities of cells cultured, conditioned medium, and media pH on the somatic embryogenesis of carrot (Daucus carota L.) were examined. A large number of globular embryoids was formed after 4 days in cell culture, and later globular embryoids developed into heart and torpedo shape. High cell density resulted in higher number and better growth of embryos, especially on conditioned medium than Murashige-Skoog medium. The fresh weight and number of embryoids formed increased with the decrease in cell size. The significant reduction in fresh weight and number of embryoids was obtained when culturing cells with diameter of over 90 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Dry weight and number of embryoids were markedly reduced with medium pH of 4 or 7, but promoted with pH 6.0.

Aromatic Compounds in Flower of Chinese Yam (Dioscorea batatas Decne) (마(Dioscorea batatas Decne)꽃의 방향성분 조성)

  • The study was carried out to identify compositions and recovery yield of aromatic compounds of flower in Chinese yam (Dioscorea batatas Decne). Total 26 volatile aromatic compounds were identified and peak area percentage of aliphatic alcohol in Dan-ma was higher than in Jang-ma. Major volatile aromatic compounds analyzed by GC/MS were 1,2-butyleneglycol, phenylalcohol, caproic acid, cinnamic alcohol, and palmitic acid. Recovery yield of essential oils of Dan-ma was higher than in Jang-ma as 0.983%. As a result, it was concluded that Chinese yam was worthy of cultivating as perfume and medicinal crops.
