Perfonnance Evaluation of Swaged- and Extruded-type Heat Sinks Used in Inverter for Solar Power Generation (태양광 발전용 인버터 방열에 사용되는 압입형 및 압출형 히트싱크의 방열 성능 평가)

  • In this study, we evaluated the heat release performance of two extruded-type and two swaged-type heat sinks used in an inverter for solar power generation. The number of fins and heat transfer areas of the two swaged-type heat sinks, namely S-62 and S-98, are 62 and 98 and $2.8m^2$ and $5.3m^2$, respectively. Those for the two extruded-type heat sinks, namely, E-38 and E-47, are 38 and 47 and $1.8m^2$ and $1.9m^2$, respectively. The heat release fractions of S-62 and S-98 were measured as 82.7 % and 86.3 %, respectively. Those of E-38 and E47 were measured to be 79.6 % and 81.6 %, respectively. In this experiment, despite the mass flow rates of air entering the heat sinks being almost the same, the heat release fractions increased with heat transfer area. Furthermore, despite S-62's heat transfer area being 47.4 % higher than that of E-47, its heat release fraction was higher by only 1.3 %. We believe that this indicates the better heat transfer property of the extruded-type heat sink. S-98's heat release is only 4.4 % higher than that of S-62, but its heat transfer area is 89.3 % higher; this suggests that its heat transfer area need to be optimized.

  • Heat exchangers have been used for the automotive, HVAC systems, and other various industrial facilities, so the market is very wide. In general, high-efficiency heat exchangers with louver fins are used in the dust-free environment while heat exchangers with wavy fins are used for dusty environment such as construction site, etc. In this study, numerical analysis has been performed for typical heat exchangers, used as oil coolers or fuel coolers, with dual cell model that can handle different grids for the air-side and oil-side of heat exchangers. First wind tunnel tests were conducted to obtain one-dimensional thermal performance data of heat exchangers. Then, heat release rates with varying air flows were numerically predicted using the three-dimensional dual-cell model. The model can greatly enhance the accuracy of thermal design since it includes the effects of nonuniformity of air flows across heat exchangers.

  • 본 연구에서는 자동차용 방열기의 수명분포를 일반적으로 기계류에 적용하는 와이블분포라 가정하고 실험실 데이터를 이용하여 추정한다. 방열기 수명시험시 고려해야할 요소를 방열량, 기밀성, 내압 성능, 압력캡 시험 등 11가지로 정하고 이에 대한 신뢰성 관점에서의 해석 및 MINITAB을 이용한 추정을 주요내용으로한다.

Implementation of Electrical and Optical characteristics based on new packaging in UV LED (UV LED의 광효율 및 방열성능 향상을 위한 new packaging 특성 연구)

  • Ultra Violet(UV) is gradually being replaced with LED instead of general UV lamps. However, the light efficiency of UV LED is still lower than that of the general lamp, and the light efficiency is also low. Due to the current environment and technical problems of UV lamps, the LED replacements are gradually being made. In this study, a new package design and analysis were performed to increase the lifetime and performance of UV LEDs. A new packaging for UV LED were designed and implemented. The new packaging for UV LED was constructed to improve light efficiency. And the electrical and optical characteristics were analyzed respectively. To improve the optical efficiency in UV LED package, the Al has been used based on high reflectivity and applying the optimal lens focusing. Compared to the existing silver Ag, the light efficiency was improved by about 30% or more, and it was confirmed that the light output degradation characteristic was improved by about 10% in the newly applied optical device chip.

  • 본 논문에서는 풍력발전용 전력변환기 내부 소자의 방열에 사용되는 수냉식 방열판의 관 형상을 제안한다. 최근 대용량 전력변환기는 소형화 및 효율성이 중요시 되고 있으며, 이에 따라 기구의 안정적이고 장기적인 운영을 위한 수냉식 방열설계가 필수적이라 할 수 있다. 수냉식 방열판는 다수의 원형관으로 구성되며, 이 원형관의 형상은 방열판의 열전달 성능에 직접적인 영향을 주게 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 열전달 촉진을 위한 방열판의 관 형상들을 모델링하고 열해석 시뮬레이션을 진행하여 모델링된 방열판들의 방열특성을 비교/분석하였다.

  • Since LED lights have advantages of long life, low-carbon and high efficiency, they have been widely used as household lamps, automotive lighting, traffic lights etc. In this study, MCPCB LED lamps for automotive LED headlights were manufactured and the performance of heat release was optimized. The developed LED headlight satisfied the target thermal performance with heat pipes and fans, and it was also shown that fan life can be prolonged three times by fan on-off control.

  • The most important cause for shortening LED lighting efficiency and life is the junction temperature rises and, to solve this problem, various studies such as thermally efficient packaging, highly conductive material development, contact resistance improvement or heat sink optimization have been studied. However, most studies so far assumed that the LED lights are in the atmosphere, and thermal performance has not been therefore reported when the LED lights are mounted on the ceiling with ceiling unit. Thus, this study investigates the variation of junction temperature of the MR16 LED light under actual installation conditions and more accurate thermal design for the efficiency and life of LED lights is therefore achieved.

A Study on Heat Dissipation Characteristics of PMMA Composite Films with Phase Change Material (상변화물질을 이용한 PMMA 복합필름의 방열 성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • The focus of this study is to experimentally investigate the heat dissipation characteristics of poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) composite films with phase change materials (PCM) to resolve heat build-up problems encountered in various electronic devices. In this study, two different types of phase change materials were used to fabricate the composite films by compression molding method and PCM paste sealing method then compared. It was observed in this study that the heat dissipation capability of PCM/PMMA composite films was remarkably enhanced by applying graphite sheet or graphene film into the composite due to their high thermal conductivity. These PCM/ PMMA composite films were attached on the hot spot inside smart phone and tested its surface temperature change according to time. The heat dissipation capability of PCM/PMMA composite film incorporated smart phone was increased 154% and hybrid PCM/PMMA composite film incorporated smart phone was increased 286% over the reference, respectively.
