The aim of this study was to investigate the anti-obesity effects of Lentinus edodes water extract powder (LEP) in mice fed a high fat diet (HF, 45% kcal fat). Mice were administrated a HF diet supplemented with 1%, 3%, or 5% LEP for 12 weeks. Consumption of HF diet caused increases in body weight, serum lipid profiles, and adipose tissue weights. Serum TC and TG levels in the LEP-supplemented groups were lower than those in the NC group. Supplementation with 5% LEP significantly suppressed body weight gain and reduced the weight of subcutaneous adipose tissue compared to the HF group. HF diet ingestion resulted in higher lipid content and increased lipid peroxidation in the liver. However, LEP supplementation inhibited accumulation of hepatic lipids induced by HF diet, considerably decreased MDA levels, and elevated total antioxidant activity in the livers of mice in the 5% LEP group. Histopathological analysis indicated that the livers of mice fed HF diet developed hepatic steatosis, whereas LEP-treated groups showed small fat droplets. These results suggest that long-term supplementation with LEP may also have an ameliorating effect on HF-induced obesity.
The objective of this research was to investigate the effects of planting date, root pruning and uprooting on growth, yield and budding ratio of 'Seolhyang' strawberry (Fragaria${\times}$ananassa Duch.). Planting dates of plantlets with 60 ~ 70 days old were September 7th, September 14th and September 21th. Root pruning rates were controlled to 25% (RP 25) or 50% (RP 50) before transplanting. In the uprooting treatments, the plantlets were pulled out on root media and were replanted into same bed at 10 days (UR 10) and 20 days (UR 20) after transplanting. The delayed planting dates of plantlet resulted in the suppressed growth of plant, reduced yield, and slight earlier appearance of flower buds. The RP 50 treatment showed the lowest value among root pruning treatments in growth and yield, but appearance of flower buds slightly fall behinds. The UR 20 treatment only made flower budding earlier by 6 days than non-treatment. All of root stress treatment was appeared to decrease vegetative growth and yield except the RP 25 treatment. Above results imply that strong root stress was required to emerge second flower bud earlier but which reduced overall growth and yield in 'Seolhyang' strawberry.
Purpose: We compared static retinoscopy in eyes opened with cycloplegic refraction depending on the hyperopia for school-aged children. Methods: There were 59 eyes (30 patients) who were divided into 3 groups - the mild hyperopia (+0.25 D ~ +1.00 D), moderate hyperopia (+1.25 D ~ +2.00 D) and high hyperopia (+2.25 D or more). They all had 0.8 visual acuity or more. Autorefraction and retinoscopy were performed prior to cycloplegic refraction, and then copmared with manifest refraction and cycloplegic refraction. Results: Hyperopia measured with static retinoscopy tends to be measured higher than manifest refraction for school-aged children. Changes of spherical power was statistically significant (p < 0.001). Changes of astigmatism was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The difference between cycloplegic refraction and static retinoscopy was not significant for hyperopic school-aged children. The use of retinoscopy was limited for opticians because of legal constraints. The usage of static retinoscopy in eyes opened for optician should be generalized under the conditions not using the cycloplegic.

In order to produce only a pH-controlled solution without discharging any unwanted solution, this work has developed a continuous electrolytic system with a pH-adjustment reservoir being placed before an ion exchange membrane-equipped electrolyzer, where as a target solution was fed into the pH-adjustment reservoir, some portion of the solution in the pH-adjustment reservoir was circulated through the cathodic or anodic chamber of the electrolyzer depending on the type of the ion exchange membrane used, and some other portion of the solution in the pH-adjustment reservoir was discharged from the electrolytic system through the other counter chamber with its pH being controlled. The internal circulation of the pH-adjustment reservoir solution through the anodic chamber in the case of using a cation exchange membrane and that through the cathodic chamber in the case of using an anion exchange membrane could make the solution discharged from the other counter chamber effectively acidic and basic, respectively. The phenomena of the pH being controlled in the system could be explained by the electro-migration of the ion species in the solution through the ion exchange membrane under a cell potential difference between anode and cathode and its consequently-occurring non-charge equilibriums and electrolytic water- split reactions in the anodic and cathodic chambers.

According to the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency's (KORAD's) medium and low level radioactive waste management implementation plan, the Domestic 3rd Step Landfill Disposal Facility has planned to accept a total of 104,000 drums (2 trenches) of very low level radioactive waste (VLLW), from the decommissioning site from April 2019 - February 2026 (total budget: 224.6 billion Won). Subsequently, 260,000 drums (5 trenches) will be disposed in a 34,076 ㎡. Accordingly, KORAD is preparing a waste acceptance criteria (WAC) for this facility. Every disposal facility for VLLW in other countries such as France and Spain, operate their WAC for each VLLW facility with a reasonable application approach, This, paper focuses on analyzing the WAC conditions in VLLW sites in the USA and discusses whether these can be met in domestic VLLW WAC. It also helps in the preparation of WAC for the 3rd Step Landfill Disposal Site in Gyeongju, since the USA has prior experience on decommissioning nuclear waste.
The purpose of this study is to investigate what kind of activities by specialized highschool students who have a sense of learned helplessness do after school, and then to inquire if there would be any of differences between their school activities and after school activities. The students in J specialized highschool for vocational education, located in D city participated in the program of improving learning motivation for students with learned helplessness. We selected 15 out of them as the subjects who were judged to be suitable for this study through 'Convenience sampling'. The research methods of this study is qualitative research methods by observation and in-depth interviews. The results are as in the following. First, daily activities after school of the specialized highschool students with learned helplessness can be divided into 3 groups; leisure activities, learning activities, and sustenance activities. Most of the students spend a lot of time doing leisure activities such as playing with a computer, watching TV, doing something with their friend, and killing time. Secondly, the character of daily activities after school of the specialized high school students with learned helplessness is different from that of the students' school activities connected with their daily activities after school. Based on the results we need to consider the character of the students' daily activities after school so as to help the students with learned helplessness, especially in specialized school.
Purpose: This study compared the SLAP lesions caused by a sports-induced injury with those caused by a non-sports-induced injury. Materials and Methods: The study was performed on 54 patients who had undergone arthroscopic surgery for a SLAP lesion. There were 21 sports-induced-injury patients (group I) and 36 non-sports-induced injury patients (group II). The mean age of the men was 36 years and that of the women was 48 years. In both groups, the frequency of a concomitant injury and the clinical outcomes at the last follow-up was evaluated using the UCLA score, Rowe score, and the ASES score. Results: According to their injury mechanism, , there were 14 cases (67%) of repeated microtrauma injury in group I and 25 cases (75%) of compression injury type in group II. As a concomitant pathology, there was 11 cases of shoulder instability and 5 cases of a rotator cuff tear in group I, and 23 cases of rotator cuff tears and 14 cases of shoulder instability in group II. At the last follow up, group I showed slightly better clinical satisfaction (P>0.05). Conclusion: The possibility of a SLAP lesion accompanying other diseases is high. Therefore, an accurate assessment of concomitant injury lesions before surgery is important for the treatment outcome.
The purpose of this study was to verify whether there were significant differences in the levels and relationships of emotional intelligence, school adaptation, self-resilience, positive human relationships, and depression between elementary school students who participated in after-school music activities and those who did not. The participants of this study were 379 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade elementary school students in the Capital Area and Gyeongnam Province participated in after-school music activities and 368 students who did not, totaling 747 students. For research analysis, t-test and multi-group analysis were performed, and the analyzed results are as follows. First, the level of emotional intelligence, self-resilience, positive human relationships, and school adaptation were higher in the participating group and the level of depression was lower than the group that did not participate. Second, as a result of multiple group analysis, the participating group had stronger influences on the paths of [emotional intelligence→self-resilience], [emotional intelligence→positive human relationship], [emotional intelligence→depression], [emotional intelligence→school adaptation], and [self-resilience→school adaptation] than those of non-participating group. Third, the participating group showed mediating effects from self-resilience, positive human relationships, and depression in the relationship between emotional intelligence and school adaptation. On the other hand, the non-participating group manifested significant mediating effects only from self-resilience and depression variables in the relationship between emotional intelligence and school adaptation.

Objectives: A case study about the effectiveness of integrative Korean medicine treatment in a psychogenic tremor patient. Case presentation: A 36-year-old male diagnosed with psychogenic tremor with low back pain underwent 29 days of inpatient treatment and 4 weeks of outpatient treatment. His pattern identification was a psychogenic tremor of the weakness of the heart and gall bladder (SimDamHeoGup) type. The treatments were herbal medicine and acupuncture. He took Cheongshimondam-tang for 29 days and Chunwangbosim-dan for 6 weeks when he had symptoms. He also received acupuncture for 20 minutes twice a day at GB20 (Pungji), L14 (Hapgok), HT4 (Yeongdo), PC6 (Naegwan), HT7 (Sinmun), GB34 (Yangleungcheon), ST36 (Joksamni), SP6 (Sameumgyo), and LR3 (Taechung). After 8 weeks of treatment, the Fahn Tolosa Marin rating (FTM) scale of his tremor, at rest, dropped from Grade 4 on both upper extremities, trunk, and both lower extremities at the time of admission to Grade 2 in both upper extremities and trunk, and Grade 0 in both lower extremities at the time of discharge. His Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) score decreased from 38 to 7, and his numerical rating scale (NRS) decreased from 8 to 1 for low back pain and from 9 to 2 for tremor. A follow-up visit to the hospital 2 months after the end of treatment confirmed continued symptom improvements and no significant side effects. Conclusions: This study suggests the possibility of treating psychogenic tremor using only Korean medicine treatments. Further studies with control groups and long-term follow-up are needed.
Purpose: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic condition marked by persistent elevated blood sugar levels resulting from insulin resistance. The effective management of diabetes mellitus involves strict regulation of the blood glucose levels. This study examined the effects of Autumn olive (Elaeagnus umbellata Thunb.) berry (AOB) on insulin resistance and hyperglycemia using a type 2 diabetes mellitus animal model. Methods: Eight-week-old C57BL/6J mice were divided into four groups. The control group received a basal diet, while the high-fat, high-sucrose (HFHS) group was fed a HFHS diet containing 27% sucrose and 33% lard for 12 weeks. The low AOB (LAOB) and high AOB (HAOB) groups were offered a HFHS diet with a 0.5% and 1.0% AOB extract, respectively. Results: The HAOB group showed significantly lower epididymal fat pad weight than the HFHS group. The LAOB and HAOB groups showed lower serum glucose levels and homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance values than the HFHS group, and the HAOB group has lower serum insulin levels than the HFHS group. Supplementation with HAOB decreased serum cholesterol levels significantly compared with the HFHS group. The consumption of LAOB and HAOB reduced the serum triglyceride and hepatic total lipids and triglyceride levels compared to the HFHS group. In addition, LAOB and HAOB consumption in mice fed a HFHS diet increased adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase protein expression. Insulin receptor substrate-2 protein expression in the HAOB group was significantly higher than the HFHS group. Conclusion: AOB can alleviate hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus partly by mitigating insulin resistance.
