Contents Analysis on Hangul-learning Applications for Preschoolers - Comparative Analysis by Teaching Methods (유아대상 한글학습용 애플리케이션 평가 및 내용 분석 -언어 교수방법에 따른 비교 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the contents of Korean-learning applications by comparing two teaching methods(Phonics Instruction/Whole Language Approach). For this purpose, a total of 51 Korean-learning applications were analysed. The instruments used in this study were developed based on Applications for preschoolers Evaluation Criteria and Vocabulary Game Applications for preschoolers Evaluation Criteria. The collected data were analyzed by using a t-test. The main results are as follows. First, 'Developmental appropriateness' had the highest scores whereas 'Amusement' had the lowest scores in general. Second, there was a significant difference in 'Interaction' by teaching method. Implications for the development of more systematic Korean-learning applications for preschoolers are discussed.

Prosthetic restoration of the patient with inaccurate pronunciation after prosthesis fabrication through systematic diagnosis and treatment procedure: A case report (보철물 제작 후 부정확한 발음을 가진 환자에서 체계적인 진단 및 치료과정을 통한 보철 수복 증례)

  • Recently, there are cases where anterior esthetic prostheses are fabricated for better esthetics, but biologic, mechanical factors could be overlooked, too focusing on esthetic factor. This leads to changes in neutral zone, dentition, position of tongue and lips, occlusion and anterior guidance causing inaccurate pronunciation. Therefore, consideration of systematic diagnosis and treatment procedure are required. In this case, prosthesis was refabricated through a systematic diagnosis and treatment procedure using four factor (acoustic analysis, esthetic analysis, occlusion, neutral zone) for the patient who complained of inaccurate pronunciation and esthetics of the fixed prosthesis fabricated 10 years ago. Thus, by promoting functional, esthetic recovery, this case report demonstrates satisfying results to both the patient and dentist.

Korean Plosive Produced by Chinese Speaker (중국인 화자의 한국어 파열음 발음)

  • The purposes of this study are (1) to see if the length of residence in Korea affects to the VOT values of Korean plosives produced by Chinese speakers (2) to investigate if such VOT values are different in non-sense words and real words and (3) to find out how such VOT values are related to the native Korean speakers' understanding of the words. For these purposes, eighteen Chinese speakers' VOT values of Korean plosives were measured using Speech Analyzer and their pronunciations were evaluated by three native Korean speakers. The results show that there is no effect of both (1) length of residence in Korea and (2) production of non-sensed words and sensed words. In addition, it is noticed that VOT values of some plosives affect more to the native Korean speakers' understanding of the words, while some are not.

Formation of A Phonetic-Value Look-up Table for Korean Voice Synthesis (한국어 음성 합성을 위한 음가 변환 테이블 생성)

  • In order to synthesize grammatically correct Korean voices, we have to refer to the 'Standard Pronunciation Rules(SPR)' stated in the 'Standard Grammar of Korean Language.' Therefore, the rules that is used for a Korean-voice-synthesis system to find Korean voices corresponding to a given Korean sentence must completely reflect the SPR and must be sound. However, in the field of computer science they have just used the SPR without proving the completeness and soundness of their rules. In this paper, we construct a Petri net model for each rule of SPR, integrate all the Petri net models to build one big Petri net completely representing SPR, and analyse the Petri net to prove the consistency of it. Then, we transfer the Petri net model into a look-up table for Korean voice. Using this table, we can avoid the drawbacks of existing approaches such as going through several stages or repetitively applying a converting process.

Phonetic improvement by adjusting the shape of the anterior palate of the maxillary complete denture: a case report (상악 총의치 전방 구개 부위 형태 조정을 통한 발음개선 증례)

  • Patients tend to return to normal pronunciation patterns after fitting new dentures. However, for some patients, it takes a long time to adapt the new complete denture. In this case, the patient came to the hospital at the address of wanting to remake dentures due to wear and tear. After diagnosis through clinical and radiological examination, the maxillary complete denture and mandibular removable partial denture were remade. The patient complained whistling /s/ sound at the first check-up after placement of the new denture. The anterior palatal area of polished surface of the new maxillary complete denture was concave comparing to old denture, and this was the cause of the whistling /s/ sound. A tissue conditioning material was applied to the maxillary complete denture and patient made /s/ sound. The tissue conditioning material was replaced with self-curing type denture base resin, and the patient was immediately satisfied with clear /s/ sound. As an objective assessment, palatogram and speech analytics software was applied. In this case, a patient who received denture treatment complaining of difficulty in pronunciation underwent immediate denture repair, which resulted in patient satisfaction and improved pronunciation through objective evaluation.

A Study on the Foreign Accent of English Stressed Syllables (영어강세음절의 외국인어투에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims at investigating and comparing the vowel lengths of the eight stressed syllable vowels among the Korean college students with the English native speakers. To do this English sentences were uttered and recorded by twenty Korean subjects. Acoustic features were measured from a sound spectrogram with the help of the Praat software program and analyzed through statistical analysis. From the results of the experiment, I was able to find out that the differences of the lengths of the first syllable stressed vowels were significant. Especially in the pronunciation of the English front low vowel /${\ae}$/, native subjects pronounced significantly longer than Korean subjects, and this result could be used as a teaching material in pronunciation class.

  • IT의 급격한 발전과 함께 새로운 형태의 정보 전달 방법이 지속적으로 나타나면서 우리말의 정확한 발음에 대한 인식이 점점 약화되고 있는 추세이다. 특히 장단음의 발음은 발화에 대한 전문인들도 정확하게 구분하지 못하고 있는 심각한 상황이다. 본 논문에서는 한국어 명사에서 나타나는 장단음화 현상을 주변 어휘와의 관계를 바탕으로 살펴보고 동음이의어 중 다르게 발음되는 명사의 장단음 구분을 명사와 명사의 수식어, 명사의 서술어와의 관계를 중심으로 논의한다. 분석된 결과는 결합범주문법을 이용하여 표현하고 어휘적 중의성이 해소된 음성 합성 과정을 표준화된 SSML(Speech Synthesis Markup Language)으로 기술한다.

예외 단어 선별 작업을 이용한 자동 발음열 생성 시스템의 성능향상에 관한 연구

  • 본 연구는 텍스트 분석 기반 자동 발음열 생성 시스템의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법으로 예외 단어 선별 작업을 제안한다. 제안하는 자동 발음열 생성 시스템은 형태음운 규칙 적용, 예외 규칙 적용, 일반음운 규칙 적용의 순서로 이루어진다. 이 때 예외 규칙은 예외사전을 검색하여 해당 어휘가 있을 때에만 적용하게 되는데, 예외 단어는 일정한 예외 환경에서만 나타난다. 본 시스템의 예외 사전에 있는 예외 단어는 5만여 어휘 연세사전에서 예외 환경에 해당하는 28,486개의 어휘 중, 총 2,931개의 예외 단어를 선별하였다. 본 시스템의 성능 평가는 ETRI 2,385, PBS 1,637 어절을 사용하였는데 실험 결과 각각 99.8%, 99.9%의 정확도를 보였고, 0.1% 의 오류는 예외 규칙 중에 하나인 어휘적 경음화 현상에서 나타났다. 따라서 예외 사전을 보다 정확하게 만드는 방법인, 예외 단어 선별 작업을 통해 본 시스템의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다.   • 본 시스템은 한글 발음 교육 사이트 개발 프로젝트의 일부인 음가 생성에 관한 컴포넌트로써 한국어 표준발음 테이블에서 음운 변동값을 추출하고 해당 음성과 입모양을 출력하는 WWW상의 자바 애플릿 프로그램 개발에 관한 연구이다. 본 논문에서는 형태소 분석에 선행되어야 할 전처리 과정, 예외처리, 음가 생성부에서 고려하여야할 점과, 시스템의 애플릿 구현 등에 대해 중점적으로 기술하였다.

  • 한국인과 일본인의 한국어 모음 포먼트값 차이 비교 연구에서, 한국어 [이]는 한국인이 일본인에 비하여 혀의 높이가 낮게 나타났으며 한국어 [에, 애, 오] 모음에서 한국인은 일본인에 비하여 혀의 높이가 높게 나타난 것으로 추론되었다. 후설 모음 [오, 우, 으]에서 한국인은 일본인에 비하여 혀 위치는 보다 후설성으로, 한국어 [어]는 한국인이 일본인에 비하여 혀 위치가 전설성으로 발음하는 것으로 추론되었다. 한국인과 일본인의 일본어 모음 포먼트값 차이 비교 연구에서, 일본어 [이]를 제외한 모든 모음에서 한국인은 일본인에 비하여 혀의 높이는 높게 나타났으며 일본어, [오, 우]에서 혀 위치에 한국인은 일본인에 비하여 보다 후설성으로 발음하는 것으로 추론 가능했다.
