Fabrication of thick film type catalytic combustible gas sensor using parallel resistance heat source (병열형가열부를 이용한 후막형 접촉연소식 가스센서 제조)

  • Thick film type gas sensors with parallel Pt heaters were fabricated by screen printing process and investigated sensitivities for methane gas. The TR7905 was selected as Pt paste for heater by characterization the properties of TCRs and thick film microstructures. The average resistance of parallel Pt heaters was $1.8{\Omega}$, and the best TCR obtained was $3685\;ppm/^{\circ}C$. On the top of the Pt heaters, a sensing layer added with Pt and Pd as catalyst paste was screen printed and heat treated. The sensitivity of the sensor was 4.3mV/1000ppm for methane. The power consumption of the sensors was 2.12watts.

  • Abnormal current-voltage characteristics of an oxide semiconductor have been investigated and a novel method of detecting reducing gases utilizing self-heating mechanism of sensing layer without an additional heater has been developed. Planar-type sensors based on WO3-doped SnO2 were fabricated using a screen-printing technique. The applied voltage across the sensing layer caused heating of the sensing layer and the current abruptly varied upon exposure to a gas mostly as a result of surface reactions. A unique and fascinating aspect of the gas sensing scheme is that no additional heater is necessary for detection. The new sensing method has been applied to C2H5OH gas in this preliminary work.

  • In the present study, the discharge characteristics of a lithium-ion battery was evaluated to calculate the rate of heat generation under various discharge rates by mathematical modeling. The modeling and simulation of a pseudo-two dimensional ionic transport system for governing Butler-Volmer equation were carried out by using FEMLAB as a PDE (partial differential equation) solver, where the discharge rate was changed from 5 $A/m^2$ to 25 $A/m^2$. The computational results showed that the concentration of consumed solid-phase lithium at the surface of electrode was increased with increasing discharge rates. While the resulting diffusion limitation occurred shortly, it increased the rate of heat generation even more rapidly for the internal voltage to approach the cutoff voltage of the lithium-ion battery.

  • 원적외선 방사특성은 방사체로부터 적외선이 방사되면 상대물체에 닿고 흡수되어 원자나 분자를 여기하여 발열하는 현상이기 때문에 방사체의 적외선 방사특성과 피가열체의 적외선 흡수특성과의 정합성을 고려하여야 한다. 또한 적외선 방사특성은 온도와 방사체의 표면상태 및 조성에 크게 의존하기 때문에 용도에 따른 선택이 중요시 되기도 한다. 현재는 적외선을 열에너지의 전파형태로서만 생각하는 것이 아니라 상온에 가까운 저온에 있어서도 미약한 에너지가 어떻게 생리, 생체적, 바이오 테크널러지(Biotechnology)면에서 효과가 있는지가 가장 관심을 끌고 있다. 그러므로 적외선 방사의 특성을 정확하게 평가하고 보다 깊이있는 연구를 하여 과학적 사실로 입증할 수 있는 노력이 이루어져야 한다.

Turbulent Natural Convection in a Square Enclosure Containing Internal Heat Generating Fluid (내부 발열유체를 가진 정사각 밀폐공간에서의 난류자연대류)

  • A numerical analysis was carried out to study two-dimensional turbulent natural convection in a square enclosure containing fluid of Prandtl number 6.05 within internal energy sources. The square enclosure was bounded by four rigid planes of constant equal temperature. Inclination angles of 0, 15, 30 and 45 deg. from the horizon for Rayleigh numbers from 1 * 10$^{6}$ to 1 * 10$^{9}$ were studied. Local and average Nusselts numbers are obtained on all four walls. If inclination angle exists, the average Nusselt number appears in increasing order at bottom, left, right and top wall.

  • Thermal management becomes serious in 3D stacked IC because of higher heat flux, increased power generation, extreme hot spot, etc. In this paper, we reviewed the recent developments of thermal management for 3D stacked IC which is a promising candidate to keep Moore's law continue. According to experimental and numerical simulation results, Cu TSV affected heat dissipation in a thin chip due to its high thermal conductivity and could be used as an efficient heat dissipation path. Other parameters like bumps, gap filling material also had effects on heat transfer between stacked ICs. Thermal aware circuit design was briefly discussed as well.

  • An oxyge generator, which is applied to a particular space such as automobile, must consider compactness and lightweight as well as problems caused by noise, vibration and heat dissipation. For these matters, a BLDC motor was adopted to reduce heat while a bed using synthetic zeolite NaX made it possible to generate high-density oxygen with relatively small size. Moreover, owing to the characteristic of synthetic zeolite Nax, a two-head vacuum pump was designed to desorb nitrogen without additional pump unit.
