Development of Energy Balance Program for Staged-Combustion Cycle of Liquid Rocket Engine (액체로켓엔진 통합 설계를 위한 에너지 발란스 프로그램 개발)

  • The energy balance program which can balance the relations among energy, mass flow, pressure in the staged-combustion cycle of the liquid rocket engine has been developed. The modular approach has been chosen for the analysis; the engine cycle consists of the elements from the predefined component analysis program. The engine with the staged-combustion cycle has been decomposed into several principal component modules, such as a thruster chamber, turbopumps, turbines, supply system components and a pre-burner. The program has been verified with comparison of the results to the selected data of the space shuttle main engine.

Study on the Optimal Selection of Rotor Track and Balance Parameters using Non-linear Response Models and Genetic Algorithm (로터 트랙 발란스(RTB) 파라미터 최적화를 위한 비선형 모델링 및 GA 기법 적용 연구)

  • This paper intends to develop the rotor track and balance (RTB) algorithm using the nonlinear RTB models and a real-coded hybrid genetic algorithm. The RTB response data computed using the trim solutions with variation of the adjustment parameters have been used to build nonlinear RTB models based on the quadratic interpolation functions. Nonlinear programming problems to minimize the track deviations and the airframe vibration responses have been formulated to find optimum settings of balance weights, trim-tab deflections, and pitch-link lengths of each blade. The results are efficiently resolved using the real-coded genetic algorithm hybridized with the particle swarm optimization techniques for convergence acceleration. The nonlinear RTB models and the optimized RTB parameters have been compared with those computed using the linear models to validate the proposed techniques. The results showed that the nonlinear models lead to more accurate models and reduced RTB responses than the linear counterpart.

Effect of Balance Board and Whole-body Vibration Stimulator Application on Body Muscle Activities during Static Squat Motion (정적 스쿼트 동작 시 발란스 보드와 전신 진동자극기 적용이 신체 근활성도 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of balance board and whole-body vibration stimulator application on body muscle activities during static squat motion. Twenty adult males(age, 21.90±0.36 years; height, 174.30±1.09 cm; body mass, 66.50±1.00 kg; and BMI, 21.90±0.31 kg/㎡) were participated in this study as subjects. Three types' static squat motions were performed(basic static squat motion, BSSM; static squat motion with balance board, SSBB; static squat motion with whole-body vibration stimulator, SSVS). We measured the right side's body muscle activities of the rectus abdominis(RA), internal oblique(IO), external oblique(EO), rectus femoris(RF), vastus lateralis(VL), and vastus medialis(VM). The research findings were as follows. There was a significant higher RA, IO, and EO muscle activity of SSBB and SSVS(p=.001, p=.004, p=.000). And RF, VL, and VM muscle activities were greatest during SSVS(p=.000). These findings are expected to serve as references for static squat motion applications in training programs for body muscle strengthening.

  • 라우드스피커의 비선형 음향특성을 해석하기 위하여 라우드스피커 다이아프램의 비 선형특성을 실험적으로 분석하였다. 라우드스피커를 집중질량계로 모델링하고, 출력소음이 없을 때 적용이 가능한 하모닉 발란스법과 출력소음이 있을 때도 적용할 수 있는 통계적 방 법인 라그란지 배수법을 사용하여 비선형 매개변수를 규명하였다. 70Hz 이하의 주파수 영역 에서는 라그란지 배수법이 2차 하모닉 왜곡특성에서 상대적으로 좋은 결과를 보였으며, 3차 하모닉 왜곡특성에서는 하모닉 발란스법이 실험결과와 잘 일치하였다. 전압가진 및 전류 가 진실험을 통하여, 일반화된 주파수 응답함수를 유도하였고 하모닉 왜곡 및 상호변조 특성을 고찰하였다. 고차 주파수 응답특성은 라우드스피커 비선형 매개변수의 변동에 따른 다이아 프램의 비선형특성을 해석하는데 유용한 수단이 될 수 있음도 확인하였다.

  • Recently, dynamic system has been enlarged and is normally exposed to various types of disturbance. Thus designing controller for these dynamic systems under random disturbance is not practically easy. As a result, the exact analysis for the system which is exposed to various irregular disturbance is quite important. In order to perform analysis, conventional BMR(balance model reduction) method is adopted and applied to moment equation in stochastic domain. Reliable reduced order system model has been obtained.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide methods to improve the teaching of piano technique of intermediate-level learners through the works of Stephen Heller by focusing on rhythm and balance. Although a romantic-era composer, Stephen Heller's works are not well-known. However, when analyzing his compositions, many require the player to focus on their foundational piano techniques and musicality. Heller composed many interesting works including etudes that allow intermediate-level pianists to develop their musicality as much as those playing Chopin or Liszt from the same era. This study presents teaching methods for developing piano technique by focusing on rhythm and balance, and for enhancing musicality to improve the quality and significance of piano education and pedagogical research.

Circular Sector-Shaped 2 GHz Band Power Divider-Combiner (원형 부채꼴 모양의 2 GHz 대역 전력 분배기-결합기)

  • This paper proposes the design of circular sector shaped power divider-combiner with a planar structure. This structure can be constructed in series, and due to the circular sector shape, it is possible to simplify circuit configuration and improve the amplitude and phase balanced characteristics of the output. It has a simple input matching circuit and an RC parallel circuit was inserted between the output ports to improve the reflection coefficient and isolation of the output. Since the designed divider-combiner are structurally designed in a symmetrical shape of a sector, even if the output ports are composed of two or four output ports, they have excellent characteristics with an amplitude balance of ± 0.1 dB and a phase balance of ± 1o between outputs. To prove these characteristics, it was confirmed that the characteristics of the planar power divider-combiner fabricated at an operating frequency of 2 GHz are in good agreement with the simulation.

Association between dynamic balance and ankle muscle characteristics (동적 균형과 발목 근육 특성 사이의 관계)

  • The relationship between balance and ankle muscle characteristics (strength and flexibility) may be important to identify those at an increased risk of falling and to develop fall-prevention training programs. The association between ankle muscle characteristics (strength and flexibility) and balance has not previously been studied. The purpose of this study assessed the relationship between ankle muscle characteristics and balance. Sixteen healthy participants volunteered to participate in the study. Dynamic balance measured using Y-balance kit. Ankle muscle characteristics (strength and flexibility) measured using hand-held dynamometer and goniometry. The results indicated a positive correlation between ankle invertor muscle strength and Y-balance test performance. Clinicians should consider ankle muscle strength during therapeutic interventions to improve dynamic balance.

  • Of the seven base units of the international system of units, only the kilogram is still defined in terms of a material artifact. One of the experimental approaches opening the way to a new definition of the kilogram is the watt balance To improve the performance of the NPL watt balance, we need to quantify and reduce hysteresis effects in the balance knives. In this paper, we discuss the mechanical characteristics of the knife edges used in the NPL watt balance. The hysteresis mechanism is analyzed using the finite element method. It is found that the cause of hysteresis is not normal stress but shear, and the deformation of the flat, rather than the knife, is an important factor in the hysteresis mechanism. The study presented here, using finite element analysis, suggests that parameters such as material property, tip radius and knife straightness can be more important than others, such as friction coefficient, tip angle, etc.
