When the term conservation is used with regard to excavated features, it means not only conservation but also restoration. Restoring the features here does not imply restoring their original form but restoring their form at the moment of excavation. That means, the conservation of excavated features includes the concept of both reparation and restoration. The way of conserving excavated features can be largely categorized into on-site conservation and transfer conservation. On-site conservation means to conserve excavated features as they were at the excavation site. It can be further categorized into soil-covered on-site conservation, in which excavated features are covered with soil to prevent them from being damaged, and exposed on-site conservation in which the features were conserved as they were exposed. Transfer conservation is operated on the premise that excavated features are transferred to another place. It can be further categorized into original form transfer, transcribing transfer, reproduction transfer, and dismantlement transfer. Original form transfer refers to the method of moving the original forms of excavated features to another place. Transcribing transfer refers to moving some of the surfaces of excavated features to another place. Reproduction transfer refers to restoring the forms of excavated features in another place after copying the forms of excavated features at the excavation site. Dismantlement transfer refers to the method of restoring excavated features in a place other than the excavation site in the reverse order of dismantlement after dismantling the features at the excavation site. The most fundamental issue regarding conserving excavated features is the conservation of their original forms. However, the conservation of excavated features tends to be decided depending on a variety of conditions such as society, economy, culture, and local situations. In order to conserve excavated features more effectively, more detailed and specialized conservation methods should be created. Furthermore, continuing research is needed to find the most effective way of conserving them through exchange with other neighboring academic fields and scientific technology.
This study is concerned with new excavation methods and techniques for fossil tracks/trackways and its application. Unlike the body fossils such as dinosaur skeletons and isolated bones, the Mesozoic vertebrate tracks and trackways including dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and birds are usually discovered in long-distance trackways. The trackways are also found in a large area of the bedding plane and preserved as two-dimensional and flat characteristic. New excavation methods for fossil footprints reflecting these characteristics have been designed to excavate fossil footprints preserved on wide bedding plane and applied to five excavation fossil tracksites. As a result of its application, the tracks and trackways of dinosaur, pterosaur, and bird were successfully excavated. And based on various excavation cases, the step-by-step process and details of the fossil footprints excavation was proposed.
With the rapid change in technology, it is important to create business opportunities from technology. Many leading companies have tried to improve their competence from capturing those opportunities, which is called TOD (Technology Opportunity Discovery) activities in this research, by identifying emerging technologies or assessing economic and market potential of technologies. Academics have also been interested in the TOD activities but most of the previous studies have focused on developing methodologies or guidelines for TOD. Little effort was given to understanding the current status of TOD activities, which is indispensible to develop effective methodologies for TOD. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the current states of TOD activities, particularly focusing on SMEs, which are the main actors of national innovation system. For the purpose of investigation, firstly, TOD process was defined, and then, based on the process, three main activities of TOD, which include identifying the motivation of TOD, collecting information for TOD, and analyzing the collected information activities for TOD, were examined using a survey method. Finally, the analysis results were used to understand the SMEs' needs and difficulties on TOD activities. Research findings are expected to provide useful information for the future studies on TOD and also can be used to develop a policy for SMEs.

This article aims to review the major problems of the present Korean management system of archaeology and to seek desirable suggestions in order to pursue the sustainable harmony between the recovery of academic excavations and economic development. In order to continue the sustainable harmony between preserving the values of archaeological resources as limited pure public goods and economic development, the present system of developer's payment for archaeology must be replaced by the introduction of the development fee for archaeology. The excavation of archaeological resources have been done according to the market principle, that is, the lower price principle. But the principle has produced a lot of serious problems in the Korean management system of archaeology, which must result in the market failure. So the governmental intervention is urgently required. By introducing the development fee, the archaeological field units and the developers can avoid direct contact. Instead, the Heritage Management Office will operate the excavation fund raised by the development fee for archaeology in order to avoid low-price contracts, degrading excavation quality, and other related residents' complaints and social conflicts in advance. In addition, the budget for purchasing the preserved excavation sites, which are the source of the landowners' enormous complaints, must be allocated to the Heritage Management Office by the Ministry of Planning and Finance. More budget for small-sized excavations must be allocated as well in order to solve many residents' complaints. These budget increase will be the fundamentals to decrease the residents' big complaints and social conflicts in relation with the archaeological management, which will be a challenge of the Korean government. Along with the governmental efforts, the archaeological field units must do their all-out efforts to overcome many problems in excavation including low-price contracts. Finally, the wage system and working status system must be revised. Excellent young excavators must be recruited appropriately and continue to work in a safe psychological condition, which are the basis to guarantee high-quality excavation.
A nondestructive experimental feasibility study was conducted using magnetometer to find buried cultural objects at pottery and steel matters in low-relief mountaineous area of Doojeong-dong, Cheonan, Chungnam Province from May 23 to July 18, 1998. Magnetic survey was carried out with $20cm{\times}20cm$ grid in a site of $20m{\times}40m$ before excavation, and the distribution of magnetic anomalies was compared with the results of excavation. Magnetic sensor was located on the surface of ground during the magnetic survey on the basis of an experimental result. Positive magnetic anomalies of maximum 130 nT are found over a pair of potteries. Magnetic anomaly map reveals several anomalous points in the 1st and 4th quadrants of the survey site, from where potteries and their fragments were confirmed. Six points out of seven points cprrelated with magnetic anomaly are found contain earthwares, whereas a magnetically uncorrelated location produced earthware made of unbaked clay. Steel waste such as cans and wires hidden in soil and bushes also influenced magnetic anomalies. Therefore, it is better to remove such steel wastes prior to magnetic survey if possible. Some magnetically anomalous points produced no archaeological object on excavation. This may be explained by shallower level of excavation than burial depth.
A near miss is an unplanned event that did not result in injury/illness, or property damage, but had potentials to do so. The importance of the near miss has been emphasized by many researchers and organizations. However, only a few studies have quantitatively approached the near miss from the viewpoint of safety culture. The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of near miss reporting activities in manufacturing workplaces in Korea. It also aims to understand how the activities related with the safety culture and the occurrence of industrial accidents. To this end, a survey was conducted on manufacturing workplaces and the results were analyzed. As a result, there was a marked difference in the perception on near miss according to whether or not the near miss reporting activity was conducted. However, it was found that only 56% of the workplaces were carrying out the reporting activities. It was found that the number of near misses reported varied depending on the reward. Although no correlation could be found between whether or not the near miss reporting activities were carried out and the history of industrial accidents occurred, it was found that safety culture level was hier at the workplaces conducting the activities.
