Identifying the Key Success Factors of Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game Design using Artificial Neural Networks (인공신경망을 이용한 MMORPG 설계의 핵심성공요인 식별)

  • Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games(MMORPGs) headed by some Korean game companies such as NC Soft, NHN, and Nexon have exploded in recent years. However, it becomes one of the major challenges for the MMORPG developers to design their games to appeal to gamers since only a few MMORPGs succeed whereas they require a huge amount of initial investment. Under this background, our study derives the major elements for designing MMORPG from the literature, and identifies the ones critical to the users' satisfaction and their willingness to pay among the derived elements. Though most previous studies on the design elements of MMORPG have used analytic hierarchy process(AHP), our study adopts artificial neural network(ANN) as the tool for identifying key success factors in designing MMORPG. The results of our study show that the elements of the game contents quality have a bigger effect on the user's satisfaction, whereas the ones of the value-added systems have a bigger effect on the user's willingness to pay. They also show that user interface affects both the user's satisfaction and willingness to pay most. These results imply that the strategies for the development of MMORPG should be aligned with its goal and market penetration strategy. They also imply that the satisfaction and revenue generation from MMORPG cannot be achieved without convenient and easy control environment. It is expected that the new findings of our study would be useful forthe developers or publishers of MMORPGs to build their own business strategies.

Usability Evaluation of Knitting Customizing Website Using Knitting Machine (니팅머신을 이용한 니트 커스터마이징 웹 사이트 사용성 평가)

  • This study contains the results obtained after two and a half years of developing a knitting customization website using a knitting machine. Recently in the fashion world, various services using customization are being provided, and devices that users can design directly using knitting machines are being developed. However the existing website for knitting machine does not provide a certain usability or layout, so it is difficult for users to use open source and custom design. Therefore, this study was conducted for the purpose of developing a website that provides ease of use to users who will use the knitting customizing service using a knitting machine. As a research method, the first usability evaluation was conducted by synthesizing the studies conducted for the knit customization website development work. As a result of the study, found the problems of the initial custom screen and the initial output screen were found, and convenience, intuition, and readability were improved. Secondary usability evaluation was conducted on the modified website and it was confirmed that the problem was corrected. Through the website finally derived from this study, it is expected that the new platform in the domestic knit market will be popularized and the usability of the custom website will be improved.

A Case Study of a Text Mining Method for Discovering Evolutionary Patterns of Mobile Phone in Korea (국내 휴대폰의 진화패턴 규명을 위한 텍스트 마이닝 방안 제안 및 사례 연구)

  • Systematic theory, concepts, and methodology for the biological evolution have been developed while patterns and principles of the evolution have been actively studied in the past 200 years. Furthermore, they are applied to various fields such as evolutionary economics, evolutionary psychology, evolutionary linguistics, making significant progress in research. In addition, existing studies have applied main biological evolutionary models to artifacts although such methods do not fit to them. These models are also limited to generalize evolutionary patterns of artifacts because they are designed in terms of a subjective point of view of experts who know well about the artifacts. Unlike biological organisms, because artifacts are likely to reflect the imagination of the human will, it is known that the theory of biological evolution cannot be directly applied to artifacts. In this paper, beyond the individual's subjective, the aim of our research is to present evolutionary patterns of a given artifact based on peeping the idea of the public. For this, we propose a text mining approach that presents a systematic framework that can find out the evolutionary patterns of a given artifact and then visualize effectively. In particular, based on our proposal, we focus mainly on a case study of mobile phone that has emerged as an icon of innovation in recent years. We collect and analyze review posts on mobile phone available in the domestic market over the past decade, and discuss the detailed results about evolutionary patterns of the mobile phone. Moreover, this kind of task is a tedious work over a long period of time because a small number of experts carry out an extensive literature survey and summarize a huge number of materials to finally draw a diagram of evolutionary patterns of the mobile phone. However, in this work, to minimize the human efforts, we present a semi-automatic mining algorithm, and through this research we can understand how human creativity and imagination are implemented. In addition, it is a big help to predict the future trend of mobile phone in business and industries.
