Understanding the exgenous water induced thermomechanical effect on the dental hard tissue by the Q-switched Er:YAG laser (1-$mutextrm{s}$-long pulse width) has an important impact on the further understanding of the free-running Er:YAG laser (250-$mutextrm{s}$-long pulse width) ablation on the dental gard tissue because one macroscopic effect in the free-running laser is an accumulation of microscopic effects we investigated in this study. The Q-switched Er:YAG laser with exogenous water on the tooth enhanced ablation rate compared to the case of no water on the tooth. The frequency of exogenous-water jet on the tooth has affected the ablation rate in such a way that as we dispensed water drops less frequently we could get more enhanced ablation rate. The amplitude of the recoil pressure depends on the tooth surface conditions such that as surfaces wet, and as the volume of the exogenous water drop increased, the amplitude of the recoil pressure increased also. From this study we realized that the 1 $mutextrm{s}$ long pulsed induced thermomechanical effect provides us useful information for the understanding of the free-running Er:YAG laser induced ablation with exogenous water.

The modern trend for high-rise buildings makes the application of fire protection systems difficult and the current systems have a limitation to provide appropriate functions. Indoor hydrant systems are fire suppression systems installed in most buildings that require valves, hoses, and nozzles to be manually operated in the event of a fire. Therefore, high discharge pressure can cause difficulty in the operation of indoor fire hydrant systems and damage to hoses due to a high reaction force. To prevent these problems, the pressure is reduced and decompression valves are commonly installed at angle valves which are the discharge points of indoor hydrants. In the case of high-rise buildings, however, there are cases where stable operation is difficult even with the installation of decompression valves. To verify this, we have measured the decompression performance by the orifice diameter and calculated the reaction force. Results of the study showed that decompression valves need to be produced in different sizes to provide stable decompression where high pressure is required as in high-rise buildings.
The turbine system composed of a nozzle and a rotor is used to drive turbopumps while gas passes through the nozzle, potential energy is converted to kinematic energy, which forces the rotor blades to spin. In this study, an aerodynamic design of a turbine system is investigated using compressible fluid dynamic theories with some pre-determined design requirements (i.e.,pressure ratio, rotational speed, required power etc.) obtained from a liquid rocket engine (L.R.E.) system design. For simplicity of a turbine system, impulse-type rotor blades for open type L.R.E. have been chosen. Usually, the open-type turbine system requires low mass flow rate compared to the close-type system. In this study, a partial admission nozzle is adopted to maximize the efficiency of the close-type turbine system. A design methodology of the a turbine system has been introduced. Especially, a partial admission nozzle has been designed by means of simple empirical correlations between efficiency and configuration of the nozzle. Finally, a turbine system design for a 10 ton thrust level of L.R.E is presented.
Recoil force exerted on the substrate during a nanosecond laser ablation of silicon is measured. The ablation sample is placed at the end of a 400 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thick and 13 mm long silicon cantilever. The vibration amplitude of the cantilever induced by the recoil force is measured in real time with a probe beam. By comparing the deflection amplitude of the cantilever with a theoretical model, the recoil momentum is estimated. For laser irradiance in the order of 10$\^$11/ W/$\textrm{cm}^2$, the recoil pressure reached a value over 40${\times}$10$\^$9/ Pa.

This study aimed to improve the reliability of the assurance pressure of a gun barrel due to the difference between the US Standard and Korean Standard. In addition, the reliability was found to differ according to the maximum pressure of the Ammunition, so restrictions are expected. During the development of the new bullet, the maximum pressure of the bullet was approximately 3,000 psi higher than the assurance pressure of the gun barrel. To solve this problem, the reliability of the cannon was analyzed when the assurance pressure of the gun barrel increased. First of all, the technical data from overseas were reviewed to check for cases of increased assurance pressure, and tests were performed to determine if it could withstand high pressure through a verification firing test. Finally, the simulation analyzed the stability of the recoil buffer. The study found no abnormal results in all items, suggesting that an increase in the assurance pressure for a gun barrel was possible. This study is expected to be used as basic data for future reliability studies of similar equipment.
We separated the multilayer structure of CD-R(compact disk-recordable) and investigated optimal spot marking conditions and physical and chemical transitions in response to various laser beam energh levels. Spot marking(80 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ spot size) was produced on the surface of each layer using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser between 27 mJ and 373mJ. By investigating resulting pit formation with Optical Microscopy(OM) and Optical Coherence Tomography(OCT), we analyzed the formation process of spot marking in the multilayer structure of different chemical composition. The localized heating of the substrate in the multilayer thin film caused the short temporal thermal expansion, and absorbed optical energy between reflective and dye interfaces melted dye and increased the volume. During the cooling phase, formation of pit and surrounding rim can be explained by three distinct processes; effect of surface tension, evaporation by spontaneous temperature increase due to laser energy, and mass flow from the recoil pressure. Our results shows that the spot marking formation process in the multilayer thin film is closely related to the layers' physical, chemical, and optical properties, such as surface tension, melt viscosity, layer thickness, and chemical composition.

The effect of uncertainties caused by measured parameters, which are propagated to the uncertainty of total-to-total efficiency, are analyzed from a turbine performance test. The degree of reaction is 0.373 at the mean radius on a tested 3-D axial type turbine, and the performance test is conducted at the low pressure and cold temperature status. The uncertainty of turbine inlet and exit total pressure shows the strong propagation effect to the uncertainty of total-to-total efficiency. This means that a high precision pressure measuring system is required to reduce the uncertainty propagated by the pressure. In the uncertainty portion of each measured parameters to the uncertainty of total- to-total efficiency, the uncertainty by torque is the highest and the uncertainty by RPM is the lowest. In case of the total pressure, the effect of the uncertainty by torque is increased with the increasing RPM. The uncertainty of total pressure at the turbine exit is more important than that at the turbine exit.

Recoil system for 40mm automatic gun is a device developed to absorb the shock of explosion. It is impossible to conduct pinpoint strike due to recoil if very high explosive shock, which is generated when an automatic gun fires shells, can't be absorbed. This study covers development and verification of analysis model for recoil system by utilizing a multi-domain software. The research process is as in the following. First, an analysis model is developed to verify damping characteristics through understanding of design intention. Second, environment which is identical to a field test is set up on analysis tool after putting explosive force that is measured through the test into the analysis model. Finally, the analysis model for recoil system using the multi-domain software is verified if it has effectiveness with a comparison between internal pressure of the recoil system along with displacement of gun barrel and the field test result.
